What is a good replacement for the All-around light on a 2006 Montauk 170? I'm on my second pole and light assembly, and they seem to break easily. The gold contacts get loose probably from bouncing around in the swells, and the bulb does not stay secure. It seems like a standard Perko 54-inch pole light. Anyone find a nice LED pole light replacement, or anything more durable? Thanks.

Miles--Stop driving your boat so fast on the way in from offshore and you will be fine.

I am on my third one. First one, I did not like. Second one, made by Seasense. My girlfriend stepped on it and broke it. Third one, I just bought. Have not tried it out as yet.

The second and third one were LED.

Hella. Great lights. Built with German "stout". They look good too.

So does someone have a brand and model number for a direct replacement for the 170 all-around light? I too think the OEM version (Perko?) isn't not very robust.

I just sent an email to BW to see what they would recommend changing to. I'll keep you posted.

The phrase, "I'll keep you posted," is particularly applicable to an interactive on-line discussion. I'll watch for your follow-up article.

Here's an update, I told you I'd keep you posted.

Unfortunately, Whaler does not currently offer LED replacement lights for the 170 Montauk as of yet--sorry.

The All-around light (sternlight) is currently an Attwood 54" tall, with a regular bulb. Attwood does offer a 54" All around light with LED (folding and non folding): LINK

You should be able to order this through most marine suppliers that deal with Attwood products.

The bow light is a little tricky, though, as Aqua Signal (actual manufacturer of the current light) Attwood and/or Perko products do not offer a similar LED light that will align with the bow/light chock set-up.
If going LED, you would probably have to remove the existing chock and go with a regular bow light. Below is a [really long URI which was ruining the line wrap but has been converted to a hyperlink] to the Attwood version: LINK

Chuck

My bow light is missing on my 1973 19' Outrage. My plan is to get a piece of teak or mahogany, etc. and cut it to fit perfectly on top of the chock then drill a hole through it for the wires and attach a replacement non-OEM bow light on it.

The down side of removing the chock is that your anchor line
will cut a groove in the rub rail as you pull the hook. Now,
if you never anchor, that's not a problem. Me, I've anchored
the Montauk about 1400 times.

I agree with Seabob: the Hella LED lights are by far the best. I have installed the Hella LED 2NM lights on both my Conquest 295 and a 16 footer; excellent quality. http://www.hellamarine.com/?t=3&pcid=133

According to Chuck Bennett's reply to Feejer's e-mail, Boston Whaler must have changed suppliers. My 2006 170 Montauk came with a 54" Perko "White All Round Pole Light - Inland Series (1440 Series)". Although this product could be better, and I have had issues with it, they are only 30 or so US Dollars to replace. Perko has a 48" LED replacement (LED Omega Series Universal Replacement White All-Round Light
[1343DP, 1348DP])that should fit the existing 2 prong pole mount socket in the center console. I didn't research whether or not the reduction from 54" to 48" breaks any Coast Guard regulations, but if you have a bimini with pole light slit you may want to take that into consideration before ordering.

My 2 cents.

I took a look at Hellas's web site. I could not find any all round light solution, LED or otherwise, that would work with the factory located, center console, socket location. Sweep backs are out since that would put the pole in your face. Moreover, as I mentioned above, keeping the original 54" height may be factor with bimini installations.

That all said, 30-35 US Dollars is a small price to pay for a new Perko replacement in my book.

2 more cents
