I have a Navman 4350 fishfinder which has output power up to 200W RMS. It works fine out in the Gulf and in the Pensacola Pass where the bottom is primarily sand, but when I get into the shallower bay areas it sometimes fails to indicate the dept of the water.

If I lose the bottom reading for a short period and then get it back, I'll lose it again if I make a u-turn and go over the same area. This leads me to believe the unit can't read certain bottom types.

Can someone tell me what's going on and if there is something that can be done to improve the performance of this unit. Would a different unit perform any better?

Thanks,
Dennis

Dennis -

Garmin has pretty good/excellent customer service. I suggest you contact them.

I have exactly the same problem in shallow water mainly sand

I thought it was a loose connection or failing sender

I've tried auto gain and manual full gain it's just intermittant readings and worse at speed

Sometimes the tracking also stops more often than not it just cant find the bottom so shows --.--

First, I don't think Garmin has anything to do with Navman.

It is also interesting someone else is having the same problem and I suspect many people are having this problem. Does anyone have a solution?

I would suggest you contact Northstar as they are servicing the Navman brand now. I believe their Northstar 435 is the product you own, or rather their rebranded version.

The were very helpful when my Navman 3100 fuel flow went on the fritz.
