[My] rig is powered by [2005 Mercury 150-HP OptiMax motors]. [I] recently left the battery swith ON. The batteries were low, but the motors would start. Smart gauge tachometers [probably means Mercury SmartCraft tachometer gauges] [are] not working now. [They are] not [showing] RPM, WATER PSI, VOLTAGE, TRIM POSITION, or ENGINE HOURS. [I am] gettting [an] "Engine Data Bus" alarm. I have unhooked the batteries in an effort to reset the computers, but [had] no luck [in getting a remedy to the problem]. [Do any readers have] any suggestions?

Disconnect all SmartCraft devices electrically from any source of voltage. Allow them to remain disconnected for at least five minutes. Reconnect the gauges to the digital instrumentation network. This should reset the gauges.

Or read the owners manual and do a master reset.

I suspect Glen is correct: a MASTER RESET may be necessary. The procedure is given on page six of the owner's manual. If you don't have the owner's manual, you can get a copy of the SmartCraft System Tachometer or System Speedometer gauges owner's manual from the Mercury website: smartcraft_manuals/System_Tach_and%20Speed_Manual.pdf

The MASTER RESET procedure is very simple. Here is an excerpt from the manual linked above:

You can return the gauge back to factory presets through the Master
Reset command.

IMPORTANT: Performing a master reset will reset the unit back
to all factory defaults, thus eliminating any installation calibrations
performed during set up of product.

By presseing TROLL – and TROLL + simultaneously for approximately 10
seconds (until the graphic bars “collide”), you will be able to restore
the unit back to factory presets.
