I have a Johnson or Evinrude Intrepid 175-HP whose heat and [low] oil horn chirps continuously during motor operation. [The alarm] shuts off when we operate the trim. What could be the cause of steps to troubleshoot? Thanks for the tips. --Vic

Trace the wire from the oil tank to the motor and disconnect it. Most likely the electronics inside the oil tank pickup assembly have gone belly up.
The LOW OIL warning is not needed if one keeps an eye on the oil level in the tank frequently.

My Johnson 115 sometimes does the same. I used a Sharpie to make a few lines on the oil tank and keep an eye on it. [The oil] level [in the oil reservoir tank] changes so I assume oil is going into engine. I also keep two quarts of proper manufacturer's oil on board to dump in fuel tank if any concern VRO quit or engine not getting oil.

In any alarm system, when an alarm occurs there are three possibilities:
--there is a malfunction, the alarm system has detected the malfunction, and it is giving a proper signal;
--there is no malfunction, but a sensor is bad, signaling a false alarm; or,
--there is no malfunction, all sensors are good, but the alarm system itself is malfunctioning.
Use these possible situations as your guide to diagnosis of the cause of the constant alarm signal.
