I'm new to this forum. I'm rewiring my boat with a dual battery system set up like Jim's "new" dual battery set up. My two engines are a 1970's Evinrude 85 Starflite and a 2000 Mercury 9.9 kicker. I plan on using an isolator before the switch on the Mercury side to keep it from getting the charge from the Evinrude. [Do] I need to protect the Evinrude in the same way? Do I need to isolate the charging system on the Mercury at all? Any help appreciated.

As long as the OFF-1-BOTH-2 battery switch is kept in any position other than BOTH, the two engines and two batteries will be isolated.
