I have a defective solenoid on the fuel enrichment valve, also called the Primer Starter Assembly in the parts manual, of a 2001 Yamaha 40-HP. To check it, I connected 12 volts to the contact that the hot wire is attached to, and the solenoid makes no response. Is there some other method I need to use to verify its condition? Thanks,

You are looking for movement after several minutes of having voltage applied. It operates similarly to a thermostat but heated by a small electrical coil.
