Interesting. I'm not sure that I understand the utility of the effect. I think they are saying that sound waves are diverted around the object, thus making it disappear on sonar detectors placed behind the object. All the sonars I've seen or read about have the source and detector at the same or nearly the same location. Thus hiding requires only that sound waves not be reflected directly back to the source. I think the submarine people have been working on anechoic materials for some time. I'm glad fish can't read.
