On a recent trip my Garmin GPSMAP 3206 connected to a Garmin GSD 22 black box sonar, would not read depth over 10 feet.
After looking in the manual, checking all the connections, listening to the transducer clicking, looking at the sonar indicator light, changing the gain and doing some cursing I gave up and never got it to read over 10 feet.
Now that I am home after searching Garmins FAQ I found that somehow during a removal and remounting of the unit I had inadvertently changed the depth range from auto to 10 feet. It took all of 2 seconds to change it back once I found the mistake.

Live and learn.

At least you didn't call tech support.

Last year I installed a Standard Horizon VHF radio and couldn't get it to work. I checked and rechecked the wiring and fuse and the antenna connection to no avail. I removed and polished the fuse ends for less resistance, still nothing.

Finally I decided to at least look at the manual. Learned, to my acute embarrassment, that the off/on switch is push button not turn-the-knob like my previous radio. Good grief!!

Butch,
I have the same switch on my Standard Horizon Radio.
Luckily for me I looked at the manual. I cannot tell you the number of people who have tried to turn my radio off or on and can not figure it out.

John--I was fiddling around with the SONAR settings all week. I finally got my HDS-8 working right about 100-yards from the haul-out ramp.
