BOE Marine is a good source. Not always the cheapest but often is. The best service I've had from an on-line vendor. The owner, Jim, or his wife are always happy to return your call. They also provide advice on units they feel will best serve your needs. boemarine.com

Santa convinced me to buy a Lowrance HDS-5 from Hodes Marine guys before the elves shipped them out to all the good boaters this Christmas. Lowrance has a rebate program running so you may want to check that out if its your brand of choice.

I had no issues with Hodges service.

I have not purchased any really expensive (over $500) marine electronics on-line. I have bought some smaller devices on-line. I use the GOOGLE search engine to locate the best prices. When buying on-line I do not anticipate that the selling dealer is going to be an adjunct to the support for the device.

I bought my combination GPS receiver, SONAR, and multifunction display from my local marine dealer, LOCKEMAN'S HARDWARE and BOAT. Before buying I was able to borrow and use several different brands and models of devices from their display shelf. When I finally decided on a particular model, I bought one from them. I don't think the purchase price was much different than the best on-line price. The only hit was the state sales tax--and you are supposed to pay that in my state for on-line purchases anyways.

To get a quick price survey on any product, use

http://www.google.com/shopping?hl=en&tab=wf

For example, here is a price survey on a Lowrance Gen2 HDS-8:

http://www.google.com/search?q=Lowrance+Gen2+HDS-8&tbm=shop&hl=en&aq=f

By the way, SEARS has a great price on that device!

I have bought a few things from BOE over the years and have had great service each time. Typically what ever I have ordered is on my doorstep the next day!
