What is special about the new Lowrance Elite 7 HDI? And what does the new acronym "HDI" stand for? What is the MSRP? When will it be available? How does it differ from the existing HDS series?

According to the link: HDI = Hybrid Dual Imaging.

MSRP ranges from $599 to $869 depending upon options.

The Key Features listed are what makes it special along with the prices for those key features. This unit looks like it is priced right for what it delivers.

The HDI-7 has a 25% wider display than my HDS-7. That is very welcome, as I feel my unit is cramped when I split the window for 2 functions. The HDI unit allows 3 split screen frames, but I'm not sure how viewable that would be even with the wider screen.

Lowrance has added much new information to their web page on the ELITE 7 HDI since it was announced a day ago.

It looks like the ELITE 7 HDI will not have a Lowrance Ethernet port, and its network connection will be limited to NMEA-2000.

This unit is in the market now. Anyone purchased the Lowrance Elite HDI already? Your first thoughts on the unit?
