I have a 2007 90hp E-TEC that I purchased new in 2011. The dealer has since went out of business and I've now discovered some of their shortcuts. I believe the warning horn has failed. Normally when the key is first turned to the "on" position there is a tone and then another tone a few seconds later. I believe this corresponds with the system check test. I'm not getting a tone now, but the system check gauge shows the normal power on test is completed.

I looked under the console and found the horn. To my surprise it is an older OMC part number 0585992 horn used on some mid 1990s outboards. The Evinrude parts website shows two warning horn related items for my model E90DPLSU; part number 0763598 horn and part number 0176794 horn driver.

I'm guessing the dealer cut some corners and installed an older horn? Does anyone know the proper configuration for the warning horn? It seemed to be working fine before, but I don't want to order an old OMC part if something else should be in it's place.

thanks,
Jon

I do not think it matters, as long as the horn works. I have an older OMC (1985) and I replaced the wiring harness (harness is a 2008), came with a new horn, works fine

The MWS boat wiring harness used for your 2007 engine has a plastic two-wire connector on it where the proper warning horn plugs into. I believe the wires are tan/blue and violet.

An older version of the horn did not have the wires or the plastic connector, but only 2 spade connector tabs and a black ground wire used for the self-test feature.

Older horns yet only had the 2 spade tabs and no self-test feature.

The older horn I discovered does have the two spade connectors with an additional ground wire. These connections are spliced into the wiring harness. If I use the horn with the plug connection seahorse mentioned, is it one of the two part numbers I mentioned in the first post?

The plug in type warning horn is 353629
