Adapting Northstar SONAR Transducer to Garmin

Electronics noob here. My 2008 Boston Whaler 190 Outrage came with a Northstar 650 chartplotter-fishfinder. I never really loved this unit, and in the last three years my eyesight has deteriorated enough--I'm about to turn 50--that I can no longer see the postage stamp screen. I purchased a Garmin 740s which looks great. The install was straightforward but the Garmin does not appear to be compatible with the existing transducer. Does anyone know of a simple adapter I can use? Thanks

I don't know of a simple method to permit the existing SONAR transducer and its cable and connector to be mated to the new Garmin 740s. The simplest solution is to install a new transducer for the Garmin. If the present transducer is just a transom mount type, it should be easiest to just change to a new transducer.
A more complicated solution would be to cut off the connector on the existing transducer cable, identify what conductors were connected to the transducer element and temperature sender, obtain a connector compatible with the Garmin, and experiment with wiring the existing transducer onto the Garmin.
You might contact AIRMAR. They are the OEM of many of these transducer products, and they may know the wiring or even have something that could help.
