This weekend, I noticed my rocker switches for the electrical components were soft, with the black portion breaking down and getting all over my hand, like tar. The center has an activation light.

Is this common for a 2002 Dauntless 16 and only a dealer item?

Thank you for your help.

Breakdown of thermoplastic in high temperature and after UV exposure is fairly common.

Boston Whaler does not make their own electrical components like switches. I am sure you can find them at many resellers. It is a question of how much searching you want to do and how skilled you are in ordering the correct replacement. Part numbers for electrical switches are some of the most complicated part numbers known to man due to the many variations and options that are possible in their design.

I recommend removing the OEM switch and carefully inspecting it visually for a mark of a vendor and part number. Armed with that information you can likely order it from many sources.

Jeff,

You may be able to simply replace the plastic rocker portion of the switch, which your hand comes into contact with. The cover simply snaps on and off. Seachoice Products, Pompano Beach, Florida makes several variations of the rocker switches.

Don't overlook Boston Whaler customer service as a source of information. Boston Whaler customer service may be able to tell you precisely who made the switch and exactly what part number is needed for replacement.
