posted 08-30-2000 04:14 PM ET (US) When I see the posts for other areas around the US I can't help but see what interest could be spured for BW owners in the Solomons Island area of the Chesapeake Bay (Maryland). I see many BWs in and around Solomons. Of course it might be best to look forward to next spring/summer. Just curious how may people in that area monitor this forum.

Hi Paul. I go to the West River 5-10 times each year. Trying to get better catching Rockfish down there. I, for one, like the idea. Maybe see if any further interest? Arch

Arch, I am curious, where is West River in relation to Solomons? I have kept fairly close to Solomons - from the Gas Docks and maybe down south past the mouth of the Patuxent a few miles and across to Hooper Island. Paul

Paul. The West River is on the Western shore about 1/2 driving time South of Annapolis. I know it's North of Solomons but I'm not sure how far. We've sailed down there a couple times over the years but it's been about 10 years since we were there last. There sure are a lot of Whalers down there also aren't there?! Arch

Oh, ok. I see where West River is on the chart. I love those online charts at boatscape.com!
Yes, there does seem to be many whalers in the Solomons area. As I tool around Back Creek and Mill Creek I see many 13', 15', and 17' whalers. Now that I have a small whaler I am more curious and drift by them to take a peak!

An idea on the Chesapeake which might attract attention from even the Midwest is a 3-4 days over a weekend before the 4th of July but after most schools are out --- up and around Annapolis and across in the area of St. Michael's --- this way you can combined not only cruising but also historic sight seeing --- just a thought guys

Hey, this looks closer to Albany than the 10 hour drive to Tobermory for the N/C rendezvous. Used to get to DC in 6-7 hours w/o boat. We might be interested.

Tom -- used to take me about 3 hours from central NJ to Albany and from central NJ to the northern Chesapeake maybe 3 hours --- Albany down is pretty much a straight turnpike route till you reach 295 into Delaware --- something to think about over the long winter months to come --- Tom
