I have a friend who is part of the Chesapeake Bay Whaler Club. An informal group that has several events, usually to asist charity swims, etc. Anyway, he e-mailed me a list of 2001 events that I'd be glad to e-mail anyone who boats the bay. Of special interest though is the Chestertown Tea Party. I went two years ago and this was nothing more than a Whaler get together on the scenic Chestertown River. This year they plan a launch at Kent Island and a 16 mile cruise up the river to town where they have a town festival with food, drinks, crafts, etc, etc. A true family event and fun for all. We also will have dockage, restrooms, grilles etc available. E-mail me if interested. The date is May 26th 2001. I'll be their with my wife and two children. I'd love to be able to get a group of Whalers together and get photos and spend a great day together!!! |

Sounds Great. I would be in to that. How far is it from the CD canal? Black Dog |

Sounds like a great idea! Count us in, as we'd like to get to know some other Whalers owners on the Bay. We live on the Sassafras, so only a few hours away by water. Please keep us posted. Happy Holidays! |

Hi guys, As it gets closer I'll give you details of the Chestertown Tea Party. It is really a town Festival they have every year and a few years back we thought it would prove a good location for a get together. There are several launch ramps along the Chester river I'll provide that info as needed. I am very sorry to say I can't make this as I was just informed of a wedding of a relative on that day. |

My wife & I live in the area and would love to come along in my Montauk. Nice new launch ramps were just built at Kent Narrows ($12 for an annual sticker - no Maryland residence required). Lots of parking. Direct access to the Chester River. bones |

I would be interested in this too. Hope it does not rain like last year. Thanks |

I'd love to bring my family for the event. I live in Poquoson, VA (Hampton Roads) and can trailer my B.W. Can you give me an address of where I can launch and maybe a good Bed & Breakfast for my family. Thanks - Stamp |

As an update to the Chestertown Tea Party: I unfortunately will not be able to attend. I recommend to speak with Scott Leidig (410) 778 5647 or sleidig@intercom.net. Scott has handled several Whaler events around this part of the bay. I think the launch is around Kent Island and a nice cruise up the Chester River. There are numerous other point further up the river to launch if you won't to shorten the trip to Chestertown. I think Kent Isl. to town is about 15 miles. Again, Chestertown Maryland has a town festival with food, crafts, etc and calls it the Chestertown Tea Party. It just happens to be a great place to get a bunch of Whalers together. I do want to get a bunch of us together later in the summer or early fall on the C&D Canal in Chesapeake City MD. A great town and the Canal leads into the upper Chesapeake Bay providing excellent cruising and beautiful scenery. How about the end of August? maybe the weekend before Labor Day. |

Would sure love to join this cruise, but living in Seattle makes it impossible. I lived in the area in the early 60s and kept a 21" bay built cruiser moored on West River and belonged to the Shady Oaks Yacht Club (had the distinction of owning the smallest boat in the club). I spent many pleasurable hours cruising the bay and rivers. Sure wish I could bring my Montauk back there and join you. Have fun. Dick |

Will contact Scott regarding Chestertown event. We'd also be interested in Northern Bay Whaler gathering, mid/end of August in ChesCity sounds good! |

Getting closer. Anyone thinking of going? www.chestertown.com/events/teaparty/ |

I'll be there, I just have to give Scott a call and find out when the roundup begins. I talked to him the other day and found him to be a pleasent person. That should be no suprise since we live in the "land of pleasent living". The Tea Party has alot going on besides the events listed on the web site, plenty of good food, and hundreds of crafts booths there too. For those that don't know the area here's a good chance to learn. It will be worth while. Bear |

Hope to see a lot of you all at the Tea Party. Scott - made reservations for the whole family at the River Inn at Rolphs Wharf. This will be our first time visiting North Chesepeake. Can't wait ... hope for good weather. |

I hope everyone will bring a camera so we can send in a good selection of pictures of new and classic whalers that will be here for the event. Bear |

UPDATE: I just got my new Queen Anne's County ramp sticker that I told you cost 12 dollars. Well, it seems as though the price has gone up a little. It's now 25 DOLLARS! Also the price for a boat fishing license is now 40 DOLLARS. Welcome to Maryland. bones |

Bones, Its the new ramp at the Narrows that jacked the price up, very nice esp. on the weekdays and way better than the old ramp at Piney Narrow, the current there made it hard to get in looking good (lol). Besides the ramps around here are pretty decent when it comes to parking compared to Talbot County. Talbot and Kent Counties annual ramp fees are still $10, free in Cambridge, $3 a day at Metapeake State Park. I think they should have thrown in the rec crabbing lic with that jump for the boat sticker. Bear |

The time is getting closer, think about joining in! |

I thought I'd rejuvinate the old Ch.Bay post instead of creating a new one. Well, it took me about a day to recover from the major sun I got on Sunday. Real good event and got a lot of use out of my Montauk. Attaboys to Scott (Whaler 1) for the work he did. Besides gitting hit by vomit a couple of times, I had a ball. bones |

Any vomit pictures? I missed that! Scott, I still have your Red flag Blackdog |

Blackdog: No vomit pictues. I picked up a male swimmer about 2 miles into the course and a female about 3 miles in. Both had ingested bay water and fuel (probably from that as***le with the Cigarette running back and forth on the north side of the spans) and both were heaving their respective guts out. I gotta tell you, these people were sick, man. They could bearly talk. Both were carried out - one by Anne Arundel County EMT's and the other by the guys & girls in the black Zodiac. My shipmate did take some digital shots of the entire day from the boat and he intends to upload them, although they haven't appeared yet. Will advise. What's next... I'm ready. Bones |
