From a previous thread, we have settled on a Nor Cal 2001 Whaler Rendezvous for the weekend of May 18-20 in the California Delta. Where in the Delta shall we go, and what are people's preferences for selection criteria? This thread is to compliment a recent email discussion of possibilities. Six families have said "yes" in general, by my count.

A web resource is:
http://www.californiadelta.org/

Possibilities/thoughts identified so far included, in no particular order:
- B& W Resort
- Snug Harbor
- Tiki Lagun Resort
- Ladd's Marina, Stockton
- Boat camping
- Houseboat rental
- At least 3 families would prefer lodging eg motel, hotel, cabin, houseboat
- At least 1 family would like "dog friendly", of which none of the above specific locations are ...

What are your thoughts, comments?

Just to clarify, I mentioned in an e-mail to Jim that I launched at Ladd's Marina (the ramps are actually part of Buckly Cove City Park) and found the launching facilities excellent. I don't have info on overnighting at Ladd's, but it is near Lost Isle and Tiki Lagun by water. Also, if anyone is interested, I now know most of the places where the striped bass are not.

Our NorCal 2001 Whaler Rendezvous is on! It will be at B & W Resort in the heart of the Delta on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, May 18 to 20. Our schedule will be VERY loose, in keeping with aforementioned suggestions for a great event. As of this posting, we've got 7 boats confirmed, with 6 families staying over one or two nights. Boats include a 73 Sakonnet (in pristine condition, I understand), 3 Montauks, one 16 SL, one Outrage 18, and one Outrage 22. It will be fun. Email me for more information. There are a couple of cabins still available; camping is available at Brennan Island State Park, not too far away by car. (It's only coincidence that we BW owners are rendezvousing at B&W!)

We are getting stoked for the NorCal Rendezvous as well. Hoop, thanks for all your organizational and recon work on this event. It's sure to be a highlight of the season. For now, I'll be sneaking out to the garage every chance I get to tinker with this and that getting ready for the inevitable show and shine....

Don't forget Angel Island just across Alcatraz, my friends and
I are bunches of Whalers most are not
very classic Whalers but we do Whaler picnic
at Angel Island every year. Angel Island
has the dock you could dock their for
$5.00 a day, there is day time park and
camp ground, but camp ground is hard to
get and needed early reservation. The island
has restaurant and the park you can do BBQ, don't forget to bring a bike so you can bike around the island.
If you want to stay overnight it also has mooring bouy can stay overnight
on your boat, it's a nice place, don't miss
it.

This No. Cal. Rendezvous sounds like a good time. I had no idea that there was navigable water from seaward to Sacremento!

I'll have to come out there some day and see for myself. My son lives a couple hours north of Sacremento, and we will be visiting him in a year or so.

It's navigable by ocean-going freighters
as far as Stockton at least!

We have 8 boats signed up now. Plenty of interest! I'm jazzed ... Still have another room available at B&W Resort, which is in the Delta-loop area just west of Lodi. Its easy to get to, so folks could come just for Saturday. Its probably only an hour from Sacramento, JimH!

Minh Nguyen, I make it to Angel Island occasionally myself. Kind of fun to be boating and fishing on the bay and then to stop at Angel Island for a latte. Like to join us in the Delta?

Hoop,
It sounds very interesting with the Delta
trip, but I haven't decided yet, but I
will let you know. I am having too many things going during those months: salmon
fishing, abalone diving, camping and stuff.
But I try join you guys some day.
Thanks,
