Speaking of rendevous plans...are there any planned get-togethers in the Michigan area? I'd love to meet up with some other Whaler owners. Either side of the state works fine for me.Tom

Definitely! I think there is a good chance that many of the same people that went to the North Channel Rendezvous last year will be interested in Georgian Bay 30,000 Islands this summer. We've already started talking about it. Midland, Ontario would be the meeting, launching and starting place, for a trip through the 90,000 (or so) islands up to the Bustard Is, and then across the top of the Bay over to Killarney, and back to Midland. This is some of the finest boating on the North American continent, and an equal to the BC and Maine coasts! (See the continuousWave section of this site) Many of us are always boating on the Michigan shore of Lake Michigan, from New Buffalo all the way up to Mackinac, so that is easily a possibility all season long. Now that so many of us are frequenting this website, we will probably be running into each other all over the country anyway. Two weeks ago, I got flagged down by George Nagy, an 18 Outrage owner, down in FL! He spotted my Whaler from the website pictures!

If anybody is thinking about the trip, our experience makes it the top of the world class trips. Once past Honey Harbor,it is incomparable. Reading as much history beforehand helps. Never located the Wright Bros. island. How unique was the tribe that left their corpes for the birds? Similiar to the Parsies(sp) |

Walt Steffens (another member) and I will be traveling through the Tobemory area on 8/3, enroute to Northernaire (northernairelodge.com), in Evansville, Ontario (it's on the north side of Manitoulin Island), so we might be game.Don |

Ust a quick note on the Georgian Bay adventure. The options of where to go depend on how far people would like to go and what sort of length the trip should be, also time of year will have an impact as well. My thoughts are starting in Honey Harbour, traveling north for a lunch at the American Camp group of islands, overnighting at Deerhorn Lodge http://www.deerhornlodge.com/ , next day a trip, depending on weather, to the Western Islands or Umbrella Islands, then back to Henrys Fish Restaurant for dinner, Deerhorn Lodge for overnight, then depending on time another excursion inland or to the Mink or McCoy Islands. This is only one idea and all input is welcome. The ideal time of year to do this would be middle to late June as the water is good and the bugs are gone. My thinking is the more, the merrier. |
