posted 06-01-2001 05:26 PM ET (US) Has anyone thought about going to the Florida Keys for a rendezvous. There are plenty of places to stay, and lots of diving and fishing etc. We could hold an offshore fishing tournament as well as a flats/inshore tournament. John Pennekamp state park is in key largo with plenty of reefs to dive.
Islamorada has some of the best fishing in the world. Not to mention that it might be fun to see all those Whalers running through the mangrove canals down in the Keys.

What month were you thinking of? Anyone else interested besides me?

I was thinking maybe sometime in the fall, when it is not so hot and humid. My schedule is open, my project should be up and running in the next couple of weeks.
Any thoughts as to where you would like to stop at down there ?

Despite growing up in FL, I haven't any experience with the Keys. I'd leave the decision about where to go to those with more knowledge.

I've been thinking aobut dragging my boat down there to go fishing. I here the best time is right now to about the end of July. I know its the hottest time but was looking at trying to get some of those dolphin without having to go 50 off shore like you have to around here. I would be nice to caravan down with someone from around this area.

fyi>>>> I just got back from the Keys, there are boat ramps everywhere!!! The water is crystal clear; it's about as close to a Caribbean feel as you can get without leaving the states. Cost wise; you're better off staying in Key Largo than Key West, and be sure to bring your snorkeling equipment! John Pennekamp Coral Reef Park (Key Largo), has some awesome dive/snorkeling at the reefs; there are mooring buoys set all around the reefs for public use too. Wish I was still there.........

Our family went there in the early 70's. We camped in a Volkswagen van. I'd like to go down there but I have a hard time getting away from work. I do know someone that moved down there a couple of years ago. Ed Stone
