As was discussed in the Post-Classic section, I am starting a discussion for a Whaler-fest in West Michigan. I would be up for any get-together that we could plan during late August or early September. I've never boated in any of the spots that were already mentioned so anything would be an adventure for me. Not to get too ambitious, but maybe we could do several different venues over the course of 2-3 days. I'm coming from the Detroit area, so it might be fun for those of us on this side of the state to caravan over to the other coast. Let's hear some opinions! Tom

Late August or early September is fine by me. Ther are plenty of hotels in St. Joe, South Haven, Saugatuck, Holland and Grand Haven. If we want to do some different ports then South Haven or Saugatuck would work as a good base. Both closest to the middle. St. Joe and Holland has the best launch ramps. The ones at South Haven and saugatuck are nice just nat as good. The one that I have used at Grand Haven could be so good but isn't well serviced. Holland and Grand Haven also have inland lakes available as well. Don't forget that we could also go to Gull Lake. This is a beautiful large lake in Richland, MI. It is at least a mile wide and six miles long. The water is clear enough too see the bottom at 12 feet. It get to be over 100 feet in spots. I will be checking my calander (sp, its late) and post my avaiability tommorow. |

Here is when I cant'e meet:July 7th July 20th-22nd August 3rd-12th other than that, as of now, I am free. I will be on vaction August 25th through September 9th. Some of the time I will be fishing at St. Joe. So that time works for me. As I live here it is more up to Jim and Tom, we could just make this a weekend event. Beauty of Michigan is that if the big lakes are to rough we can always go on an inland lake. |

Sean - A weekend late in August would probably work best for me...although I'm sure I could sneak a Friday (maybe even a Thursday) in there too. If we had a good 3-4 days, we could check out a couple of different areas. How big a problem do you think hotel/b&b space may be? I know those are very popular vacation spots. Brian - TC may be a little far north...but worth considering if enough people want to do it...I really like your willingness to cross the big lake to participate...that's impressive! Tom |

The last weekend in August or the first weekend of September would be fine for me. I really can't say what the situation would be like for motels. We have one here in Paw Paw, which shouldn't be problem unless we schedule the weekend of the wine and harvest festival. There are plenty of hotels in the Saugutuck/South Haven area. If we can nail down a date I am sure that all could be accomodated. Keep in mind that the first eweekend in Sept. is Labor Day .

A trip across the Lake for a West Coast Rendezvous would sound good to me. I could modify my cruising speed so Outrageman could follow me across the Lake. Im running 234.9HP, thats a 225 Envy with a 9.9 back up. Sometime in August works fine for us. Eagleman |

Modify your crusing speed!!!!That old Un-evenrude can barely get you on a plane when your wide load is in it :) Maybe a bit of a race is in order here. We both start in Balies Harbor, and those at the rendezvous can certify the winner. I sure think that a race across the lake would make the press here. Anyone else care to test their worth and join us? :>) |

Since I'm the proud new owner of a 93 21' Walkaround, I would love to trailer it over to the west coast (I'm in the Detroit area). The big lakes are fine with me, Traverse City or farther south both sound great! How about Aug 25-26 or Labor day? |

Ledfoot,Ventura16 will be talking with Jim about the time right around the end of August beginning of September. To all on this subject. I could host a cookout at my house, since I live in Paw Paw. This would be subject to consulting with the boss, acceptance as an alcohol free event, and having the rendezvous somewhere in southwest Michigan; say St. Joe or South Haven. Sean P.S. I am not opposed to a casual beer, glass of wine, or drink. I just have real strict rules about drinking and driving. |

Pasted from a post I made in the post-classic area:"Thanks for all you input over the past year. If you make it up to the West Michigan are again, let me know. I would like to look at your boat. More specifically, I still plan on being at St. Joe/South Haven/Holland/Grand Haven area the last week of August and the first week of September. Ventura 16 and Jim H. are mulling over coming over as well. Maybe Kingfish might come over as well. south Haven seems to be the logical choice as Ray has slip there already." The Saturday befor Labor Day is filled for me now, but the rest of Labor Day weekend is open; as is the rest of the time indicated. |
