Anyone Interested in putting together some type of whaler rendezvous for MD and VA Areas on the Chesapeake Bay. Submit Ideas or suggestions. Central Bay to southern-central Bay area would seem appropriate.

We have way too much going on right now but maybe in September? Perhaps the Rhode River? There are a couple of small islands that can accommodate a dozen or more boats. Just to the south in the West River is Steamboat Landing, a waterside restaurant with plenty of dockage.

I would be in for a late September early October excursion. I keep my boat in Ocean City MD during the summer but bring it home to Southern PA in the fall. Last year we stopped at Sandy Point and did some Rock fishing but a fall rendezvous would also be nice. On the way down to OC this spring we went to the Whaler rendezvous at Chestertown Tea Party that Scott Leidig puts on. We had a great time and would highly recommend it to anyone in the area.

Sounds good.. we can keep a thread going on this and see what we can round up by fall. Im at love point just across from sandy point and chestertown a short ride up the chester river. Is the rendezvous going on at chestertown next year? I can trailer south closer to OC or VA areas if we can pan this out for fall.

I would like to see a picnic/rendevous at Sandy Point State Park early to mid October. there is a great pier just inside the inlet and plenty of tables right on the hill.

I'll be there!

Hey Scott, I ran from Rolphs all the way to St Michaels July 5th and had a smooth ride down, going back was against the tide, rough seas and straight into a 15'20 mph wind. No fun and a long ride!

Is anyone still up for this? I need to firm up my plans for October so if anyone is still interested in a rendezvous please speak up. Sandy Point on October 12 or 13 would be great for me but not the only dates I could make.

Hi,
My name is Greg and I am new to this forum.
I recently acquired a 1972 Boston Whaler with a mid 1960's Evinrude 40HP. After some elbow grease I took it out for its first test run and it was fine. (I havn't owned a boat for 15 years and the hull was alot stronger than my back was, a tad bumpy out there!)
I will be operating in the Potomac River once I get the boat lisenced and would love to be part of any events on the Potomac or the bay.
I hope to have it titled and lisenced by the beginning of October. Glad I found this web page.
Greg

Oct 13 is not good for me. Will be spending 3 day weekend in Chincoteague VA (with boat! The room we have includes use of a boat slip! Life is good!) Kevin

Sandy Point, October 13th around 10am If I remember correctly they have a nice pier just to the left of the ramps were we could dock with a picnic area nearby. It is first come first served but at that time a year we should have no problem getting some room. I’ll have my wife and kids along so we plan to make a day of it..

We are still planning to make the trip from OC Sunday morning arriving sometime around 8:30 or 9:00. Kids are dying to see the Sandy Point Shoal lighthouse up close so we will probable be making a run out to it first thing.
Mark, Sorry to here you can’t make it.
gfrutig1, Hope you can make it. I live just south of York and will be bring my boat back home after our stop at Sandy Point. I have found the best route from York is:

Take I-83 SOUTH
Take the I-695 WEST exit towards BALTIMORE
Take the I-97 SOUTH
Take the US-50 EAST/US-301 NORTH exit towards ANNAPOLIS/BAY BRIDGE
Take the SANDY PT. STATE PARK exit

If anyone is interested here is a link to DNR’s site. http://www.dnr.state.md.us/publiclands/southern/sandypoint.html

Hope to see you there!
-Roger

I will be there! I've been busy lately or would have posted sooner. Oh and then there is the fact I forgot the password I entered for this forum. I'm gonna launch early morning from Love Point and troll for a while in search of some decent rockfish(stripers). Then I'll head over to Sandy Point for the rendezvous. Great selection on the area too. Some underpower photos of our boats with the Bay Bridge in the background would be great to have. They may somehow even make it into cetacea here on Continuous Wave.

As far as what to bring? I suppose bring what you would expect to need for yourselves and whomever comes with you. There are tables and grills at the picnic areas. I am unsure of the alcohol use policy in the park but hey, if it is what I think that gives you an excuse to jump in the boat, take a spin, and sip a frothy beverage(responsibly).

Im hoping for nice October weather on the Chesapeake. If it's anything like last weekend we will be set. Far as I know it's 4 boats certain including me. We have maybe 3 others coming that I have contacted. I have emailed everyone that needed to be a few days ago. See you all Sunday. Oh yea dont forget your boats! 8>)

WOW! Its great to here so many can make it. I was beginning to think I was going to be the only one there. Eastport70, I had given you up for lost. Photo idea sounds great, I’ll bring a camera. We will be arriving early. May even dip a line or two. I monitor channel 68. Now the only thing left to do is hope for good weather. See Ya Sunday

Boys, its a long way from Nj (123 miles), but if my 7 yr old son has any interest, I will be there--might be fun way to end the season.

Well Guys looks like the forecast has changed and they are predicting nicer weather. North Beach, Hope you can make it. I will have my Little People (10, 8, 6) with me so your son will have someone to pal around with.

Now that was fun. Who’s ready to start planning the next one!

Glad to see so many brave the threatening weather. It turned out to be a wonderful day on the bay. It was like glass out there. Scott, thanks for talking us into the trip to see the Thomas Point Light House. Gary, a trip down the Susquehanna sounds great. We’ll have to talk about it. I posted the photos I took on my web site. If anyone would like any of the pic’s in full resolution just drop me an email with the number and I’ll get it to you.

Sorry I missed you all. I crusied around Sandy Point Park harbor at 2PM. Didnt see any whalers docked so i figured you all had headed back home for the day. Maybe you were all were headed to Thomas Point at the time though. I was hoping the event lasted longer because something came up that morning and I was held up for a few hours. Looks like you all had a great time.

Well I wish my brother's and I could have made it, but being in law enforcement, and the current situation I was unavailable. Let us know if your planning another one, and we will show up with 2 22' revenges and 1 montauk. Scott did you wash the outrage ? :) Good job with the pictures. We are all on the severn river !

Sorry I missed it. It sounded like a great time. Look forward to next year. Just a side note, the pictures on the web are of the Sandy Point Light not the Thomas Point Lighthouse, did you run out there also?

Eastport70, prxmid & csj
Sorry you couldn’t make it guys, the weather was iffy at best but the day ended up being great. The water was so nice Scott talked Gary (gfrutig1) and I into running down to Thomas Point. I did take a few photos but I only posted the ones with Whalers in them on the site. Eastport70, that’s probably when you showed up. We made it back around 3pm and had lunch at the park. My boat is put away now and I assessing my winter projects. I hope we can all get together next year.
