Anyone interested in getting together on the St. Croix River in September?

I was thinking of Saturday, September 21st.

Nothing fancy, just a nice cruise to Prescott for lunch and maybe a stop at the Kinnickinnick sand bar.

Let me know if you might be interested and what you would like to do.

David,

I'd be interested, since I lived in Prescott from '96 thru '99. I met Doug Johnson and his wife in Bayport last weekend: I'm sure he'd be interested too. There's also someone named "aatay" that's on the St Croix near Afton, I think. I can't make it a firm "yes" yet, but sure will strive to make it positive asap.

David,
Sounds good to me, barring any unforeseen circumstances I'm in for the rendezvous.

I'm interested, just have to check schedules and see how things look. Really don't know at this time.

David,
I just picked up my new-to-me Outrage.
Would be interested in the trip. I think I have something going on the third weekend in August. So we'll see.

September 21st, not August.

I hope you and everyone else who's replied here can make it.

Everyone--drop me an email so I have your address and I'll keep you posted.

I'm sorry, I meant September also, typed August. Duh.

I understand.

Whatever it is you have planned, cancel it. By October, we'll all be bitching about the cold weather and how we should have gone out one more time that one weekend in September...

I'm in for 9/21 barring nuclear war, etc. Just curious: where're most people launching? Since I'm going to Prescott that weekend, I can't very well cruise there, but I'd like to boat out to meet the rest of the folks when they launch and cruise back with the bunch that way. Any plans for lunch there? Steamboat Inn is really nice, albeit pricey. RC's, which is south about 300 yds. is reasonable, good food, but lacks the atmosphere of Steamboat Inn.
Also, if you're into sports bar type stuff, my old hangout is about 10-12 blocks east of the river (Philander's), and since I have my jeep in Prescott, I could do the taxi work...

I would recommend using the ramp at Windmill Marina in Afton. That's where I will be launching.

Dave

Thanks, David. I'll be launching at Prescott early Sat. cruise up toward the Kinny, and fish a little first, and will boat up to Afton to meet anyone who launches there, so if you see a wandering 15 CC it's probably me.

I know there are more Minnesota Whaler owners here than the folks that have responded already...

C'mon you guys...

Dave...
Just saw this thread. Like to join you - sounds like a great way to spend a September weekend - but still looking to repower a 15' Sport project (buying used so there's a lot of chaff to pick through to get to the wheat).

Enjoy yourselves! I'll keep an eye peeled for you if we're out in our other boat. sammy

Hey Sammy,

I asked that question on this forum (or one of the preceding versions) about repowering my Sport 15.

At the time, I was keeping it on a ramp out in the open so I liked the rope-start Evinrude 30 I had on it. It was light and I didn't have to deal with a battery.

But I wanted a little more juice and tilt/trim and electric start. Clark from SCN (he's a regular here) suggested a 40HP Merc as a good alternative.

And I have to say, at least for my needs, it's been an ideal combination. The boat has plenty of power for two adults and it's still easily manageable.

Take care and good luck.

Hi Dave,

I have been thinking about it and it sounds fun. What do you think of us braving the St. Croix in a Sport 15? I guess I could stay close-in...

Yes, I'll be there. Thanks.

Rich

The St. Croix in a 15'? No problem.

When I get a minute, I'll send out a few emails to see who is going to make it, then I'll call some place in Prescott and make reservations for lunch.

Glad you can make it.

Dave

P.S. If anyone else is interested in joining us, please send me an email.

RichAA,

I have hundreds of hours on the ST. Croix in a 13 sport. No concerns at all. See you there!

MW, don't be all "big pond" as if we don't know what big ponds are... We have 'em. We have big ponds, and we have Gitche Gumee. Now THAT'S a pond.

Just thought I would get this bumped back up.

Dave, I think I'm going to make it, my fishing weekend got cancelled.
What time is everybody going to meet?
Mike

Thanks, Gep.

Unfortunately, I have some engine issues I am trying to resolve, I'm about a 50/50 no-show.

I'll know more tomorrow as I try to get my tech to either fit me in or give me a firm date.

Thanks all.

Hi Dave, I am hoping to make it this weekend depending on what time everyone is meeting and where for sure. I tried to email you directly and it did not go through.
I'll check this site again in a day or so. Thanks for your help and good luck with your engine.

With Dave, our fearless leader and rendevous organizer for Afton down for the count, is this thing still on?
If so, when and where?

Hey, this sounds like fun. I live on the St. Croix, south of 94. Unfortunately, I can't be there, i'll be in racing the sailboat in the big part of the river all day.

Since whaler-ites are good powerboaters, you guys promise to always pass BEHIND us sailboats in a race?

Gep,

Sure was nice to see SOMEBODY show up at Afton... Had a good time ! How the hydraulics?

skred,
It was nice to see you showed up also.
I made it back to the landing, got the motor tilted up and secured.
Started dinking around with it at home and it won't come down without using the manual release valve. I'll have to add some fluid and see if that works or not.

skred--I'm sorry I couldn't make it. Didn't you see my previous message?

I suppose I could have had one of you guys tow me around...

Dave,

I left for Prescott Friday morning, so I probably missed the last couple posts. No matter: doesn't dampen (hah!) my enthusiasm. Still had a good time. BTW, had we gotten a fairly large turnout, and come down to Prescott, you'd have discovered it was "Flood Run" day for the Harley crowd. Prescott looked like Sturgis for a while.....
