Ok let's get started! Who wants to get together again? Labor day weekend(Sunday) or late September/early October.....any dates? Same place or try something new? How about Sarasota area to cater to our southern friends? Does not matter to me, just taking I.O.I(indications of interest).

Brian needs to know as well because he is gonna try and gather some SeaCrafts to join us as well. Remember kids....if you have something other than a BW, it is cool. We had an Auguasport & a Seacraft last time so if your neighbor wants to go.....cool. This is a rendezvous(plural) and the more the merrier. This aint no "stuffy" Whaler gathering with grey poupon and capers.....we're talking Bigshot style(flip flops and beer).

So lets get some brain fluid moving and come up with some ideas. Our April one was a big success(Don post the website again)and I want this one to be even better. Let's aim for at least 25 boats. Now who is bringing the band, the pigroast, the "entertainment", etc? Actually I should not kid like that, Pat will have a hooters built on the site:)

BS - Since my post for right coast types fell flat, this sounds like an opportunity to mingle - I'll guard this channel for further G2...

That's why all of us "cool" people live on the west coast:)

One idea might be to put in at Manatee Springs State Park on the Suwanee River, head out to Cedar Key on the rising tide, have lunch, and come back up the Suwanee River.

Where is that? I remeber a song about the Suwanee river:) How far north is that?

I am also doing a saturday at beer can Beach on the Bradenton/Sarasota inlet(long boat pass) in late spet or early Oct for our Yacht club members with smaller boats(like me). This date obviously can not be the same so keep that in mind if I say bad weekend. Those who want to come are more than welcome as well. Labor day weekend I think may be to close to organize.

Who wants October 5th?

Im working that weekend.
Howz about the October 12, in recognition for Columbus day weeeknd. (what if he had a whaler?)
BTW, what if Boston Whalers were invented back then, and pirates tried to capture and sink a whaler?
Highwater, what happens if the tide isn't rising when we need it to?

BS: tell me more about the longboat

Kinda like shell key or wherever we went last time but just off the ICW or just in from the gulf in Longboat pass. From the Skyway bridge it is maybe 1/2 hour south. Great place to hang. Water is only 4-5' and ususlly clear, no seaweed, etc, just sand. We chill there about every weekend. Anytime you want to go, let me know. I keep inviting everyone and nobody ever shows up. I see a ton of Whalers there and usully ask if they are a member here and most are just snobs that walk away.....Whaler owners are at both extremes I think.

They had the Gulfwind get together there one year. They had the gall to put up a sign saying Gulfwind club members only....sign did not last long after I got through with them. Nobody could show me a form stating they owned or rented the sandbar for the day. From Eggmont key it is the 1st inlet south(not Bean point cut) and is maybe 15 mins from Eggmont. More parking than Shell and more places to go too that are close.

Look about 15 miles north of Cedar Key and you will see the mouth of the Suwannee River. It is navigable 88 miles up to Branford in a Whaler. Absolutely gorgeous.

We can get into Cedar Key on a low tide. But the highlight of the trip would be the Suwannee. It would be an even nicer trip if we went north on the Suwannee (toward Branford) but then we would miss the good seafood at Cedar Key.

There is nice camping at Manatee Springs State Park. The water is crystal clear in the swimming area, and is about 20' deep. People will be scuba diving in a cave there. Water skiing, tubing, wildlife....

David....did you move from NC as well as change your name:)? Will you be attending?

We are still in North Carolina but love to visit your sunshine state. We did the Suwannee, Homosassa, and Crystal Rivers last fall, and Amelia Island & St. Mary's River early this summer.

I cannot say for sure that we will be able to attend. My wife is a school principal, so a lot depends on her schedule. Thanksgiving week we will definitely be going somewhere in Florida.

Do you have definite dates yet?

No dates yet. I do not think I will be able to go that far for a day trip. A coworker has a cabin up that way and a 21' Whaler he leaves there sometimes. I heard they have good cave diving(more like holes) but I do not cave dive.
