Ok, i'll start it. Carried it over from the other forum. If there is interest i'll check the local ramps and see if the DNR is planning anything and/or see if Pete B. will let us use his ramp at the service center.
Anyone interested?
Suggested date?

I'm interested. Flexible on dates. What is the area like? I'm not too familiar with it.

If you know the COLONY MARINE folks, see it they'd like to have a new Whaler available for a test drive or two.

The weather is quite unpredictable in the spring; it is probably better to wait for late June.

I'm definitely in. Looking forward to meeting other forum members and exploring the east coast of Michigan. I say sometime in June would be great. Or even multiple times if people are up for it. I hope to get out often next year.

Count us in, I can't wait for the thaw!

I'm in too, schedule permitting. Late June sounds good to me.

I would like to attend.

Sometime in June sounds good to me. Probably take me that long to get the boat back together.

I would love to attend as well, but because of the size of my boat (15'GLS), will have to be a bit picky with the weather.

I've talked to Tom at Colony Marine and he said that they would be happy to help put something together with us. I mentioned demo boats he doesn't know what will be part of that fleet but there will be demo boats for us. The depth at witch they can participate will probably be in proportion to what we can have for attendence. I've also talked to the St Claire County Sherrif marine patrol and if we or any the people from out of the area would like to talk to them they can put together a small talk and the "not for navigation charts" showing the wake zones for different areas for us. No rides on their Whaler but we can have show and tell about it. Well thats about it so far. Just have to figure a date to close to the 4th of July could be bad and when does everyone have grad parties? June 14th? The sherrif needs at least a month notice to put us on their callendar "prefer more notice"
Ok, well what say ye?

I have a wedding to attend the 28th in Grand Rapids. Other than that, I am open to suggestions - and am willing to take whatever weekend in July you can get everyone to agree on...if it's the 28th and 29th, I'd have to just make it for 1/2 the party...but still would be fun.

I don't mean to rain on anybody's parade, but the St. Clair River is not a good place to be in a small boat on the weekend in June or July. It is an almost constant parade of large cruisers heading in both directions in a fairly narrow waterway. On holiday weekends, i.e., 4th of July, it is a zoo. If you really have your hearts set on Algonac, it would probably be best to do it early (when it is still a little chilly out), late in the summer (when it is getting chilly again), or on a weekday. Otherwise, you will probably have more fun if you have the rendezvous in Lake St. Clair (which can also be a zoo on the weekends) or Lake Huron. I'm not saying small Whalers can't handle it, or that you won't have fun, but flat water will be pretty scarce.

I'm up for any saturday in June or beginning of July. A zoo would be fine, make it a little more interesting. Beginnig of June is ok too. Does someone just want to pick a date so everyone can start planning??

Jim Gibson and I hosted Whaler Rendezvous on the Mackinac Race weekend, last July. Had the up river city owned marina opened pretty much just for us. Saturday evening dinner was a catered event from the local Damon's chain.

I think most had a great time. I know I did...

If there is enough interest, we'll put it on again.

I'll have to check the date, and will get back to this thread with it.

Am also planning on running a short ad in the boats for sale section in the Detroit News during the preceeding weekends.

For those who don't know about what that sort of crowds that weekend can bring, your in for a reality check...

Don and Jim's Mackinac Race weekend Rendezvous was really great - and it was some crowd! I know everyone had a lot of fun, and jimh, Carolyn Farnsworth and I enjoyed some pretty amazing scenery of the local fauna at the ramp...I'd do it again in a heartbeat. The rendezvous I mean.

Katie and I are planning another North Channel Rendezvous at Neptune Island/Little Current this summer, too. All I know for sure at this time is that it will be in July or August some time; more on that in a seperate thread as my family's schedule clarifies. We will try to avoid the Port Huron Race weekend-

Date for the weekend is:

07/11-13/03

This date is 99% certain. The only reason I'm leaving any wiggle room is that in the past, the race weekend "switched", so that one year the Chicago to Mac race was first, then the next year the PortHuron to Mac race was first.

I noticed on Gails office calendar that the PH / Mac race is scheduled for the second weekend, same as last year.

Will check it out further and get back with this thread.

We had, oh, six, seven boats and with some advertising and more members here on the forum, I'd expect to double it.

Ok -

The weekend is scheduled for:

07/18-19/03

Friday night is the downtown party night and Saturday is the start of the Port Huron to Mackinac Island Sailboat race.

I'll post a seperate note with the date in the topic header.

Let's try and pick a weekend and get this thing scheduled. It's something more pleasant to think about than the temps outside. ;-)

Either the weekend of June 14th or June 21st will work for me. Anybody else have a preference?

I'd prefer the week-end of the 21st but the 14th would be ok. My calendar usually doesn't go out that far but this would be worth it. Getting tired of looking at the hard water.

I could go either way, but the 21st is a little better for me also. I'm thinking of coming down on Friday afternoon/evening, perhaps an informal get together, then boating on Sat. What do you guys think?

I can make either weekend.

New to this forum so Hi to all. I would have to agree with the comment made by TheSkipper on the St. Clair river. If you are interested in Colony Marine due to their whaler affiliation they have a showroom in St. Clair Shores. More motels, ramps, dining, and calmer water. Not a bad run out to Strawberry Island or Gull Island either. For those with small whalers there is Ford Cove very close by that can be accessed via idle zone water.

Okay - has this changed from July to June?

I thought we were talking about July?! Is there a firm date set for this event yet? I'm working on my calendar and want to have enough lead time to warm my girlfriend up to the idea.

Thanks!

Dave

I agree that we should, by consensus, set a firm date, so interested people can make plans, get time off, etc. Do we have agreement on June 21? Perhaps everyone could just check back in with either a "yes" or an alternate date. Once a date is firm, then we can go to work getting plans finalized . . .

Ok seems to be a leaning to the weekend of June 21 for an Algonac area rendezvous. If this is good how about doing the post a yes thing first and if you could for space reasons give me a clue about the size of your Whaler.
I'll talk to Tom at Colony about the date and what he can do when I get a rough idea on how many could show up.
Do you folks have an interest to have a show and tell from the local Sheriff about the area and their boats?
If your coming from out of area let me know and I could find some basic info about hotel/bed and breakfast places. If you would need a place to park your boat trailer rig while your in the area a number of them can fit in my yard(if we have a week of rain big whalers and my yard might not mix well). My Yard is on the North Channel(high water it is the north channel) next to Colony Marine(marina/service center)
So either put up a post or give me an email at tony.immers@gm.com

Cheers
Tony

Yes, June 21. 17' Standard. I'll be coming down Friday night and getting a cheap hotel room for one night.

Whatever you come up with, please submit it to the Whaler Rendezvous Calendar.

Please send me the following for the calendar:
The date(s) of the rendezvous.
The rendezvous location, e.g. Bayfield, WI.
The official name of the Rendezvous if there is one.
Contact information for the organizer, including phone numbers, email addresses and web site addresses. And optionally, any additional pertinent details regarding the event.

Thanks.

Not getting a lot of check ins yet, hope that is because it's still a few months off.

With the weather getting nice now, it may be time to start talking seriously about this now . . .

I'm going to have to back out of this one if it happens on June 21. Other plans have been made for me on Saturday June 21.

I can't make the 21st either, but it seems like a non-issue. It appears that this rendezvous has died.
