Sounds good to me. We have company coming into town (Mobile) that weekend, but they are anxious for a boat ride in the old (but new to us) 15 Sport. Hopefully my engine starting troubles will be long solved by then.

I'm bringing this topic to the top again to see if anybody bites.

bwmenemsha, were you by chance at Perdido Cove Sunday in a Menemsha? My wife and I followed followed the one and only Tully Mars into there, and we all spotted a Menemsha. I've never seen one on the water before. I like it! Cheryl and I were in our 15 Sport, and Tully and his friend were in his beautifully restored Montauk.

Anyway, somebody post to this thread if we're going to make a Southern rendezvous happen. :)

Hi Mike...thanks for the bump....l kinda had written this off.....too answer your question ....yes l was...wife and l were around there and had a bushwacker or 2 from about 1 till 4....l saw several whalers there but not as you describe...

We should have motored over to you and said hello, but we didn't want you to think we were stalking ya!

Well, Cheryl and I are game for a rendezvous anywhere. Perdido Cove seems perfectly situated between Mobile and Pensacola. Come on, folks, anybody out there? If Memorial Day weekend isn't good, there are lots of weekends in the season.

I am in for one. I might be able to make Memorial Day weekend, but I would rather try for the next. Two reasons...Pirate's Cove is not that big and will be packed on Memorial Day, and second that I might have family in town that weekend too.

bwmenemsha, I passed ya several times that day, last time I saw ya were were heading up the east side of Ono in the intracoastal. Your whaler looks great.

I'll make an attempt to be there for whatever weekend you guys choose. I'll be limited by a hectic work and family schedule, not to mention a "muffin in the oven". I may end up hitching a ride with Tully, if he's willing...

Mike Brantley posted 04-17-2003 11:52 AM ET (US)     Profile for Mike Brantley  Send Email to Mike Brantley
OK.... did some double-checking, and now I know we will have out-of-town company on Memorial Day weekend, too. So, for the same two reasons Tully gives, I also think the weekend after Memorial Day weekend (or any other weekend) would be best.

Cheryl and I are thinking about getting a hotel/motel room for whenever this shindig goes down. That way we don't have so far to drive for an early start. Does anybody have any recommendations for a motel in the Gulf Shores/Orange Beach/Perdido area that would be good to bring a trailered boat?

Also, what are the good places to launch? We have launched twice at the public boat ramp at Cotton Bayou. That's a really nice ramp (3 ramps, actually), but it gets crowded and trailer parking seems really limited.

Looking forward to meeting y'all. Hope this comes together.

Thanks for the comments guys....looks like this may be beginning to jell....l am very open to anytime, Memorial day weekend was just a starting point....speaking of points,Tully may have a good one ref to overcrowding...a friend told me about Hatchet point which is just to the west of Pirates cove, l believe it is the long uninhabited stretch of beach just to the sw of p/c off the ICW...any ideas welcome...again thanks again for the comments l get a lot of attention with that boat but it is still a work in progress.
Mike, there are several launch points right there at the cove and a brand new county one up in the cove just a bit, there are no hotels to my knowledge between lillian and foley...l am not sure what is on the south end....l will probably launch from kits marina right at the Hwy 98 bridge or down at the one in the cove itself,if you would like too meet up with me it would be my pleasure...just keep the ideas coming in....thanks Bob
Mike Brantley posted 04-17-2003 03:44 PM ET (US)     Profile for Mike Brantley  Send Email to Mike Brantley
Bob, Hatchet Point might be a good place to congregate. I need to go get a chart and figure out the geography of the area a bit better so I know where everything is. We could always meet at some place like that, where crowding might not be such an issue, and then motor over to wherever -- Pirate's Cove or even farther east on the ICW to some interesting destinations Tully was telling us about.

I found this Web site for the Pirate's Cove restaurant and marina...

It's got some interesting info about the business and the area, as well as maps, GPS coordinates, ICW channel marker number and even a satellite photo.

Wherever and whenever we choose, we'll have our VHF radio turned on. Maybe we can agree to a working channel to communicate on in case somebody gets lost or is running late. Or, maybe better, we can exchange our cell phone numbers.

tully_mars posted 04-18-2003 04:40 PM ET (US)     Profile for tully_mars  Send Email to tully_mars
Hatchet Point does sound good, though I am not sure where it is exactly but would definitely be in radio range.

NoviceWhaler, no problem. Whalers have plenty of capacity.

I have found that on channel 81-85 usually has the least amount of traffic, so we use that a lot of times. Just make sure you are broadcasting on the hi side so you are using max radio power if you are any distance away and looking for someone. I say we just pick one and when you get near Pirate's Cove and are unsure then start hailing. (per FCC standards)

Mike, if you can figure out some GPS round about coordinate's that would be cool.

Cheryl just made the spur-of-the-moment decision to go check out the area more today, so we're headed over. I got land directions to Pirate's Cove, so I'll launch somewhere over there instead of Cotton Bayou. While we're out, I'll find Hatchet Point and make a waypoint on the GPS so I can post coordinates. I found it on the chart, so it looks like the place is within eyesight of where we were last time.

We usually have the radio on, but if anybody ever wants to find us on the water, call our cell at 251-648-7108.

Just a li'l west o'there is Orange Beach. Gots an awesome marina by the name of the town, and some o'the best food and margaritas on the Gulf at the marina's restaurant. Just a thought. Ah've been hangin' there Memorial Days for mebbe 20 years now. If we show, Ah might even wear the Speedo. Unless Momma wants to wear those his'n her's thongs she brought back from Mezico last winter. We tried 'em on at home, but Ah dunno 'bout the beach.
Mike Brantley posted 04-19-2003 11:48 PM ET (US)     Profile for Mike Brantley  Send Email to Mike Brantley
Hoot, you're scaring me! :)

We had a great day today, beginning with a couple of "cheeseburgers in paradise" at Pirate's Cove.

Anyway, we checked out Hatchet Point, which is just west of Pirate's Cove and east of Wolf Bay. It's easy to get to from the water with plenty of room to beach boats and congretate. If we do decide to meet there, we could go lots of places from there. There's the famous Pirate's Cove restaurant, of course, but that place is small, crowded and (I gotta tell you) slow. But the atmosphere is great. There are other places to eat and drink that are accessible from the water, but I don't know them all. Last Sunday, we tied up at Zack's (may have the name wrong) east of Perdido Pass just at the edge of Cotton Bayou, and there's lots of room to tie up boats there. We met Tully and his nice friend Joey there.

Tully, what were you telling us about that's east of this area? Fort Pickens? That could be worth a run.

Previously, we have launched twice from the public ramp on Cotton Bayou. Nice place to launch. I imagine it will be terribly crowded during Memorial Day weekend, but probably not so bad if we do this the week after (my preference for previous reasons stated).

Today, we launched at the Pirate's Cove ramp and paid $5 to do it. We should have launched at the extremely nice new public ramps at Josephine Park that's just a little farther up into the cove. But we didn't know how to get there by land. I need to look at a map. This would be an excellent place for anyone to put their boat into the water. Heck, the place has picnic tables and a couple of piers and could even serve as a meeting place.

I took some pictures at Hatchet Point and at Josephine Park. I put them online via the very rudimentary Web page here...

Just click on each thumbnail image for a larger view. That way you can see what both areas are like. Sorry I don't know how to make that a clickable link, but maybe somebody can do that for me.

tully_mars posted 04-20-2003 12:24 AM ET (US)     Profile for tully_mars  Send Email to tully_mars
Yes, East of there following the intra-coastal you will come to Pensacola Pass and there is Fort McCrae and Fort Pickens. Real nice area to beach boats and explore etc...

It would be cool I think to meet in central location in Orange Beach and then we could caravan over there. It is a bit of a run, but mostly because of the idle zone going through/past the Oyster Bar Marina and Idle zone.

Yep, Pirate's Cove can be slow, that is why I decided last weekend to eat over at Tacky Jacks. Zeke's Marina was across the bayou there and a little west. San Roc Cay Marina was directly across the bayou.

Tacky Jacks would be another great place for us all to meet because they do have ample docking. Unless we get in the neighborhood of 30 boats. But we really don't need a great place to eat, just a good place to meet, and a beach would be best. Easier to walkaround the boats as we show them all off.

There is not much chance of our family driving 500 miles to attend this gathering, but just in case, could someone with a GPS give the coordinates of exactly where these places are located. Thanks.
Mike Brantley posted 04-20-2003 09:37 PM ET (US)     Profile for Mike Brantley  Send Email to Mike Brantley
David, I made a waypoint in my GPS Saturday for Hatchet Point. The coordinates are:

N 30 degrees 18.368 minutes
W 087 degrees 32.324 minutes

Tied up at the pier at Josephine Park, the coordinates were:

N 30 degrees 19.580 minutes
W 087 degees 32.016 minutes

I still have to figure out how to reach this park by land. I don't have a map of Baldwin County, but I'll look at one at work Monday. There's alwats Mapquest, I suppose.

In an unrelated development, I got around this weekend to figuring out how to get my GPS to talk to my DSC-capable radio. Now I'm prepared to mash that big red button if I ever have to, but let's hope this rendezvous doesn't come to that! ;)

Tully, thanks for reminding me the name of Tacky Jacks. I couldn't think of it.

Ok all, I am ready to firm up a date here. Now, a new development has come up for me on the weekend after Memorial Day, and I know Mike and a couple of others didn't like that either. How about 2 weeks after Memorial Day.

June 7th???

At Mike's numbers.

June 7 would be fine with us. Does anyone third the motion?

We'll be going up to Lake Martin June 14, so nobody suggest that weekend! :)

If we agree on June 7, Cheryl and I are going to book a motel room somewhere close to the rendezvous and enjoy a night or two away from home.

Hi folks....sorry to have seemingly been out of the loop for a few days but l currently only have online at work as l have just moved to Lillian from pensacola....Mike glad you found the launch l mentioned at is really a super get there by land from hwy 98, south on 95 about 5 miles, when you get to fork in road that has big wooden signs with arrows (in middle of fork)it will indicate "pirates cove" to the right....go to the left for launch josephine...pirates cove would be kind of southwesterly and josephine would kinda be south easterly if you get my drift....either way from that point it is only a mile or 2.
If l had a choice l would opt for the area of ft mcrae/pickens but l was trying to stay in the middle ground for the fla & Al folks...if that is still good than hatchet point or tacky jacks (never been there but have heard some stories lol)is great....Do l understand this correctly that the ragin cajin Hooter will make it a thong yet lmao....if this word gets out they will be coming here from michigan and bigz from tampa....hope you can make it hoot....If we need a 3rd for june 7th then so be it....l third it....l thank you all for your input and co-operation...Bob

Yippeee! :)

I've gotten two or three e-mails from folks who say they will or might come who haven't joined in this thread, so maybe we'll get a decent turnout.

I had a little too much time on my hands the last hour or so, evidently, because I found a map to doctor up for our purposes. I put it online at the link referenced above and right here...

What time should we meet? I'm so excited I think I'll see about getting my suntop purchased and installed before this shindig goes down.

Wild Turkey, that's great!

It looks like David Pendleton is the man who puts together the official calendar, and he wants this info for a listing:

The date(s) of the rendezvous.(sounds like we've firmed up for June 7, meeting between/around 10 and 11 a.m.)

The rendezvous location (Hatchet Point, west of Perdido Bay and east of Wolf Bay in south Baldwin County, Alabama. Is this the best way to say it? The map helps, I think.)

The official name of the Rendezvous if there is one. (Tully called it the 2003 FLORIDA/ALABAMA BOSTON WHALER ROUNDUP. Sounds good to me.)

Contact information for the organizer, including phone numbers, email addresses and web site addresses. And optionally, any additional pertinent details regarding the event. (Bob, you started this. Do you want your contact info here? I don't mind sharing my e-mail and cell number, but I wouldn't want to pass on someone else's contact info without permission. We can give the URL for that simple map page I made, and I can flesh that out a bit with some directions and detail.)

Suggest any corrections/alterations, and I'll e-mail the info to David.

I have a couple of friends on Dauphin Island who fish out of a Montauk, and I met a nice fellow in the Power Squadron course we took who has a Nauset. None of these folks are forum members, but I will tell them about our Roundup. Should we mention this event to the folks at Killinger Marine, or would that be overkill? I think we can have a great time with only a few folks showing up, but the more the merrier.

bwmenemsha posted 04-22-2003 03:48 PM ET (US)     Profile for bwmenemsha l have previously stated l have just moved and have some other priority stuff to do and my home computer hooked up is close to the bottom of the l may be somewhat out of on-line in touch for info l would CONTINUE to appreciatte your picking up the ball and running with it...l will share with you my home phone and any assist l can be l will do.
When l started this l was not planning on moving but a good deal/location fell in my lap so l took advantage of it but consequently it is taking a lot more time and energy than l anticipated...l am either getting and feeling older or have got to much STUFF or a combination of that. With that l will pass the torch of the 1st Annual Fla/Al Boston whaler roundup to you if you do not mind? Bob, that's cool. I don't necessarily want to be in charge of nuthin'. Just didn't want to seem presumptuous about being the one to send the info to David. About all the "work" left to do is just show up and have a good time. :) It'd be great if you mentioned the meet to your friend at Killinger's.

Re-locating -- even a relatively short distance -- sure can be a pain. I haven't finished uncrating all my junk from our move two a half years ago. Let me know if you decide to throw out anything good. I could use a 60hp, four-stroke outboard with fuel injection and perhaps some nice Mercury decals on the side of it. Send word if you're going put one of those out by the street.

Just FYI... It looks like Hatchet Point is also called Hatcher Point, so keep that in mind if you ask anybody for directions. I don't have my GPS with me at the office, but I can almost swear it labels the place Hatchet, just like we've been saying. But the big Baldwin County map on the wall here at the newspaper labels it Hatcher Point. According to the USGS Web site, Hatcher Point appears to be the more proper name, with Hatchet Point listed as a "variant."

Fortunately, the place is easy to find no matter what we call it.

Wild Turkey
Tully Mars
Mike Brantley

As much as I drive around here, there are so many more Whalers than this. Who else is coming???? I am pumped, just went riding in my Conquest tonight for a nice evening ride. Also, just drilled and Marine Texed the front hand rail screw holes on my 16 Montauk today. This officially completes my restoration. Also re-installed the original capacities plate as a finishing touch, so I am ready to go Whalering....

I've gotten e-mails from a couple of other folks who indicate they will try to come, but no firm commitments. I encouraged them to sign on an post something to this thread.

I see so many Whalers on the water. Wish we could get the word out to more folks.

Glad you had a good day today, Tully. I'm suffering Whaler withdrawal after spending today on a 72-foot schooner, the Joshua, which followed the sailboat race from Daphne down to Middle Bay Light before taking us back to Point Clear. That was fun.

I think Sunday afternoon we'll take the 15 Sport down to Fowl River and poke around in there for a while. We'll look for ya in case you are out and about, Tully.

greetings...l share your concern about the seemingly lack of l stated in the initial post we just dont seem to have as much fanfare, for lack of a better word but l will try and remain optimistic lol...the wife and l spent the day on Hatchett point Sunday...had a great time....the point gives a clear view of all traffic in the ICW and a nice breeze also...the downside is too much traffic....looked like downtown Boston at rush hour....kinda noisey and hectic with the associatted water is a rather large area and stretch of beach so the remedy could be to just move more down the beach which becomes more sheltered.
l was approached by several people inquiring into my strange looking craft and after some discussion found them to be whaler owners that all fess up to having never seen or heard of a any rate they will probably appear at the function....they thought that it was a great idea and were further impressed that the genises of it all was on this web site which they also never heard of but l had a feeling that we will be hearing from them in the future.
Just a reminder that this weekend is the classic wooden boat show at the Pirates usually is a good one !!!
Take care...Bob/Ellen

Sorry for disappearing ... got really busy this week.

Bob, that's great about you telling some folks about the Roundup. I actually saw a red Boston Whaler Mischief all over Fowl River Sunday, pulling kids around on an innertube. It looks like they were having fun. When I later saw them at the fuel dock, I told one of the teenagers attached to this cool craft about the Roundup. I'd be surprised if they show up, though, since these folks sort of looked at me like I was from Mars or something. :)

Tully, great idea about putting something up at the boating stores. There's a new Boaters World in Daphne, too. I bet the map I put up would reproduce OK on a flyer. I don't mind that cell phone number I posted being used as a contact.

Do you have a computer printer? I gotta get some ink for my Epson.

First Thought, we are looking forward to seeing you, your dogs and your Montauk! We were thinking about staying at a cabin at Big Lagoon, but then we found out they don't have any cabins in that park. Too bad, because it has a good launch ramp. We are thinking about finding a hotel room for Friday or Saturday night, but pickings are slim.

And, back to Bob, we might try to go to the wood boat show at Pirate's Cove. Trouble is, I might have to work Saturday, so it's up in the air.

That way we don't have to worry about driving back if it's late and we're pooped. Plus, we can do more boating in the area on Sunday.

A gentleman we met in our Power Squadron boating class may come. He's got a vintage Nauset that he bought new 37 years ago. Also found out a fellow who works in the paper's production department has a 13 foot Whaler (in addition to his 25-foot boat). I'm trying to get him to come, too.

Anybody tell Masbama? I think Tully has his contact info, but I haven't seen Masbama on here lately.

Howdy all,

Been lurking as you all have been covering the details so superbly.

I did email Masbama, but I am not sure of his status on the 7th, I will try again.

I am definitely there with the "restored" Whaler. The Conquest will stay at home since I can't tow both of them over there at the same time. Looking forward to meeting you guys...

Wastin a way again in Whalerville....

Hey, Masbama... haven't met you yet, but howdy!

The new ramps at Josephine Park and the old one at Pirate's Cove are the closet ones to the place, I think. It's a good amount of driving to get there from Mobile, but driving is faster than boating -- at least with my boat. Another option is the public ramp at Cotton Bayou on Hwy 182 in Orange Beach.

There is a map here...

Looking forward to seeing you there.

First Thought, we were at Big Lagoon park Sunday with some out-of-town friends, and we made the run from there to Pirate's Cove. Not a bad run at all.

Yeah, I'm nervously watching the weather, Bob. I'm not going to get worried yet. It was the same forecast for this past weekend this far out last week, and we ended up having two nice days. My fingers are crossed.

We could alternately meet up in Cotton Bayou since our neighborhood marina has a gazebo area (and bathrooms) and would be a shelter for between the storms. I am not sure about docking, but we usually have several empty boat slips. Also, we could go to Tacky Jacks, plenty of dockage and cover from rain.

I say we do it rain or shine, these are Whalers and will not sink in the rain!! :)

That's the spirit, Tully. :) I suspect that if we do get some showers, they will be of the scattered type, so it won't be raining all the time in every place.

A big plus with Tacky Jacks is that, as you point out, there is plenty of room for docking. Maybe we can keep the Cotton Bayou idea ready as a backup in case it looks rainy as we get closer to Saturday. But the problem would be we have publicized (however limited) the Roundup location. I'm not sure how many, if any, folks will show up who aren't participating in this thread, but I have been mentioning this thing to everyone I see on the water in a Whaler, and Bob has put the flyer up at Killinger Marine.

But I also vote for rain or shine unless the forecast calls for Old Testament style flooding. ;)

My friend with the Nauset told me earlier tonight he is still planning on coming with a friend. He said he'll bring his fishing gear and try to do some fishing over there, too.

Saturday. Mostly cloudy with a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Highs in the mid 80s. Chance of rain 50 percent.

Bays and coastal waterways choppy to rough.

Morning Folks:
Like the rest of you I'm not real happy with the weather forecast, but at least it is not 80% or greater. If we cancel I think it would be pretty hard to get another date set that would work, remember all the hassle getting this one set plus who knows what the weather would be then, maybe better, maybe worse. I guess I say let's make the best of it and keep our fingers crossed.
Mike, about how long/far was the run from the park, and a dumb question, it is west from the park, isn't it. See you on the 7th, rain gear in ready.

l share all your concerns and have been monitering the weather as well as this forum...l agree with "first thought"...and mike...lets we want to pre establish some radio channels to call each other or moniter 16 and go from there. First have to go west from the park...its a few miles from there and some "no wake zones" ...if it really gets dicey and you don't want to travel that far via boat geyt ahold of me and we can work something out that will be a lot closer....fingers and toes crossed
Mike Brantley posted 06-05-2003 11:55 AM ET (US)     Profile for Mike Brantley  Send Email to Mike Brantley
First Thought (will we learn your name Saturday? :) ), I should have done a better job timing the run. But we had guests on the boat and were yacking the whole way and not exactly going a straight course. But I would say it's a 15 to 20 minute run, mainly because part of it is at idle speed only. I'd say the direction is northwest once you get finished snaking through the skinny part of the ICW . Are you using a GPS?

About going ahead with our plans rain or shine, we concur. As long as lightning bolts aren't coming down, we're game. Tully suggested some good places for getting out of the rain if that should be a problem. I feel that if there is rain, it will be scattered and not all over the place all the time like it was a few weeks ago.

Assuming my Nauset friend is coming, we will probably drive over with him Saturday morning and launch together at Josephine Park. We have made a reservation at a motel in the Foley/Gulf Shores area for Saturday night, so we will still be in the area and boating if we can on Sunday, too.

Again, my cell phone number is 251-648-7108. We will have it with us this weekend, and while we are on the water we will have the VHF on, too. If somebody wants to hail us, the boat is called Sweet Cheryl. Bob, I think I can set my radio to scan 16 and another channel, so if we want to designate a "fleet" channel, I will dig out the VHF manual and figure out how to do it. I need to know that anyway.

Sounds like it is a go. Bob, Mike thanks for the confirmation on the directions, I thought that was right, but it has been a while since I've been over there.
Mike, sorry I just realized that my name was not in the profile, it is Buddy Scott. I wasn't sure if I would have GPS or not but I just got it back yesterday, so I'll enter the numbers you posted. I can monitor 16, or whatever channel you come up with.

Channel 81 on the VHF is a good channel to use. It is not one of the USCG "business" channels, and I use it quite frequently with other boating comrades.

Are we crazy? :) :) I mentioned our plans to one of my colleagues at the newspaper this morning, and in light of the weather he joked that he would fill out a photo assignment to get a shot of a bunch of swamped Whalers and seasick occupants. I've often said that my sole goal as a boater is to not do anything foolhardy enough to land me on the Metro front. (grin)

But the boat is ready, and the rain gear is stowed. Channel 81 it is for our "fleet" channel. Y'all try to stay dry.

lol mike.....Would it be a good idea perhaps to wait until about 0800 and check in (or muster) on ch#81 and get the weather latest and see who is still in???? Btw l will be "The sha" for menemsha. Additionally would it not be more prudent that if it is raining we just meet at pirates cove. We can just drive boat up to sandbar and run for the porch rather than get within several feet of beach at hatchett point and jump into water to stand around in pouring rain...just an idea.
Mike Brantley posted 06-06-2003 11:24 AM ET (US)     Profile for Mike Brantley  Send Email to Mike Brantley
Probably a real good idea, Bob. You can practically see Hatchet Pt. from Pirate's Cove (maybe you can), and anybody headed there would have to come right by the Cove. I suspect the rainy weather will keep Pirate's Cove from being as crowded as it usually gets, which is the only reason we weren't going there in the first place, I think.

I won't hear anything on the radio until we get to the launch ramp at Josephine. But I will have my cell phone with me and turned on. I won't know until this evening weather (er, I mean whether -- really a typo caught on proofreading, but too funny to correct!) our Nauset friend is in our out.

Rainy Morning To You:

Maybe this will work after all. Latest update from Weather Channel has downgraded rain chance Saturday to 40%, mostly in am and cloudy skies later in day. We made a slight change in plans, we cancelled the camping, so that probably means it won't rain. Wet us, wet dogs, wet camper and a boat sounded like to much sugar for a dime. We are going to drive over and launch at Josephine. Is the latest plan to meet up at Pirate Cove? will listen/check in on VHF

Mike Brantley posted 06-06-2003 05:59 PM ET (US)     Profile for Mike Brantley  Send Email to Mike Brantley
I will post at least one more message to this thread tonight confirming my plans, but I won't do that until after a trip to Wal-Mart for supplies. At the moment, I expect to be at the Josephine Park boat ramps by about 10 a.m. and will begin monitoring Channel 81 on the VHF then. Before 8 a.m., I will be at home at 251-662-1701. Once I leave home, my cell phone (251-648-7108) will be active. (It won't work in my neighborhood, for some reason.)

May run into some of you at the park. If not, I will beach the boat at Pirate's Cove or putter around out front in the channel to see it anyone is at Hatchet Point.

Current forecast seems to call for the heaviest rain in the a.m., so maybe this nasty stuff will blow on out of here and leave us relatively dry for the balance of the day. But, as others have pointed out, there are plenty of places to go for refuge.

And, Janis, have fun at the St. Johns River event. If y'all do anything else later in the season, maybe we'll drive that far. Buddy, sorry the camping aspect is a bust, but I think the rendezvous will turn out OK. Chris, we can meet out in the Gulf when I get a bigger boat! (grin)

We won't give up on you, Tully. The forecast is still about the same, calling for scattered showers and 50 percent chance of rain, with the heaviest rain expected in the a.m. Heavy rain could slow us down in the morning, too, but we will see.

Our friend with the Nauset won't be coming, but I told him there would be future opportunities. This mission is limited to the foolhardy. Hah!

See y'all tomorrow. Take care, and good night.

Two things you might check, all the screw in hose fittings on the seperator housing have teflon tape or putty on them so no air is getting sucked in and two your bulb should have an arrow on it, the arrow points to the motor end, fuel flow direction. I'm probably saying things you already know and checked but they are my only thoughts. We'll check in with you later.

Y'all took off too soon! Not long after we all split up, the skies turned the prettiest shade of blue you ever saw. We stayed on the water until about 7 p.m., first going east and then west on the Intracoastal. We pulled up to a place called Perdido Key Oyster Bar and Restaurant for refreshment. We'll have to go back there sometime when we are hungry, 'cause the menu was awesome. We were still stuffed from the Pirate's Cove cheeseburgers we waited so long for, so we just had the key lime pie.

You all have fine boats, and we liked every one of them. Thanks for braving the weather to hang out. We enjoyed meeting the people we haven't met before and seeing again the people we've already met on the water. Buddy, your dogs are cool. Tully's and Joey's children were fun, too. Sorry 'about your trouble, Masbama. We look forward to seeing you next time.

Speaking of next time, somebody say a time and a place, and we'll be there. It's off to Lake Martin for us next week, so there will be lots of boating for us but no Internet connection.

As promised, I will send the pictures I took, along with a description of what went down, to Jimh for possible inclusion in Cetacea. For those of you who can't wait for the fancy report, I put a selection of photos of the event up on the Web page that had our map on it. Here's the link...

Chris, I'm not real sure what part you lost, but here are a couple of possible local sources for a replacement. The guy who works on my motor is Danny Beech at Mobile Marine. He's on Moffet Road, and the number there is 251-344-1979. He's got a bunch of parts, as well as good catalogs for ordering things. He has treated me right time and again.

Another possible source is a nice fellow named Ferrell Hamblin, who knows all about OMC motors of all vintage. His shop is set up behind his home on Pinto Island, just off the Causeway. I hestitate to type his home number into the Internet, but he is in the phonebook. He's got a shed full of Evinrude and Johnson engine cowlings, seemingly of every shape and size.

Buddy, you must have took the rain clouds back with you. Thanks! :)

Bob, I saw lots of ideas, too! Somebody had a nice installation that put the bilge pump discharge into the splashwell area. Was that you, Chris? If that is working well for you, I might try to do the same thing. Right now, I just have the hose hanging over the top of the transom. That works well, but I want to tidy up the presentation. I for sure could use shorter control cables, as they are making a big loop-de-loop back there now, but I was going to wait until I repower to redo those. What both Bob and Buddy said Saturday about fuel/water separators has got me thinking I ought to get one of those, too.

I better save that talk for a thread in Repairs/Mods, I guess. Cheryl loves this. We hang out with "boat people" for a few hours and I start thinking of things to spend money on that wasn't even on my list!

Tully, sure... sounds great! Y'all get together on a date, and we will be there. Got a prior engagement one of the July weekends, but I can't remember now what that date is. My nephew's birthday is July 7 and my sister's is July 12, so there is a combination birthday party close to those two dates that will take us to Birmingham.

Tell you what, folks. Since I'm getting ready to head out of town, I'll just point you all to the high-resolution images on my server space. I don't have time for a fancy Web interface right now, but just go to this directory...

...and you should see all the files. The jpg images that end in "thumb" are tiny thumbnails. The ones with "mr" are medium resolution. The ones with no designation (like Bob.jpg) are the full resolution images most suitable for printing.

You can save them from your browser or right-click on the file names and save the files that way. (Hey, I even have two mouse buttons on my Mac.)

Thanks again, everybody, for everything. I may not get back to the forum until next week, so safe passage to all.
