Any whaler JUNKIES interested in getting together the weekend before salmon opener to shake out the cobwebs, test the gear, share some beverages and hyper each other into a frenzy for the SALMON SEASON?? The stripers should be hitting by then..... MobyD

MobyD, Possibly. Though I'm putting most of my planning energy in to coordinating a whaler rendezvous in May in the Delta. I'm more an aspiring fisherman than anything else. (When you have a fishing boat, people expect you to fish!) Fishing wise, I'm still bummed at the rock fishing closure. I don't have my calendar handy ... what day did you have in mind? Down in Santa Cruz, I think the opener is March 31st. Striper fishing would be good ... time and tides permitting. Jim San Jose |

Moby, Sounds like fun, but my boat will be in the water in Santa Cruz and I may be doing the same thing down here. It never hurts to motor around a bit and see if any bait is showing up on the finder. The Salmon opener is March 29, and I can just about taste it already.... |

MobyD:I wish I could. My new son is a month old and currently absorbs all my time. What would be fun though the other bay area guys is to launch somewhere in the bay of your own choosing and then motor over to Tiburon and have lunch at one of the dock side outdoor restaurants.

This looked like a good place to post this for a start. I'm also more of a wannabe fisherman but have a whaler and would like to put it to good use. Can anyone recommend some fishing resources, equip needs etc. SF Bay area, Delta, Northern Ca. Freshwater? |

Drydock: Howdy Neighbor. What kind of Whaler do you have?In Sacramento, "Fisherman’s Warehouse" is the place to go to get set up. They are a little bit pricey on some stuff but they know how to fish. They will set you up. Also, "fishsniffer.com" is a good web site for tapping into the California fishing scene.

Drydock... It really all depends on what type of fishing you want to do and where you want to do it. The bay/ocean for stipers, salmon, halibut or sturgeon, or the delta for stripers, sturgeon. E-mail me at my regular address at brianliston@hotmail.com and I can fill you in as to what you need. I fished this morning and caught 2 stipers that were 10 lbs.... The season is getting of to a good start. MobyD |

What? Fishing on Thursday morning and limiting with 2 nice stripers perfect for table fare! I think I hate you! Just kidding, but I am envious though. Where did you catch them? I heard things were slow right now but apparently that's not the case.Man, I haven’t been in the water since mid January. Is it still there?

Sorry it took soooo long to reply... new job and lots of time on the water. The stripers were caught by china camp trolling. Have caught and released probably 30 since. Its starting to pick up a little, but still have to work for them. Slammin salmon soon!!!! Moby D |
