May 2nd and May 3rd are the dates..this one's going to run thru a Monday, so plan the day off NOW>>>>.CAPTAINS MEETING, FRIDAY, MAY 1ST. AT 1190 JACKSON RANCH RD., DELAND. Yes, we will have the capt. meeting here at our house. There is PLENTY of parking, and we can sleep 6 in beds. The rest of you can get a hotel, or camp on our property. (I seem to think the hammock is sweet) We can launch at Ed Stone Memorial Park off St. Rd. 44. On Saturday, we will run to Silver Glen in Lake George, return, and all have supper at one of the various restaurants along the way. On Sunday, a trip just up-river to Blue Springs,(FOR THE MANATEE HUGGERS) which includes a lake along the way for skiing, drinkin' and fun. All can leave there boats in the water overnight, and not have to drive, or walk more than 10 feet to your rooms. ACOMINDATIONS: www.hontoonlanding.com or www.hollybluffmarina.com. I plan to get a house boat for saturday, and tote the 13'. If anyone else wants a houseboat to stay on for the weekend, be sure to tell the girls at Holly Bluff you're with me. If you make reservations at Hontoon Landing, talk to "April" and tell her you are with the rendezvous. "TEEGUARDEN" IS THE PASSWORD:) Ok...now all of you have questions, so let's have it, and make this the greatest rendezvous we ever had. ACE<<<I EXPECT TO SEE YOU:):):) Love 2 all, Janis

I got too excited and responded to this before checking obligations. For some reason, I was not born with lots of money and a fat bank account and my future would require daily replenishment of money. I found out that I would have to go out and earn it if I wanted to survive. Therefore, unfortunately, that is the weekend I have to work. I would consider taking vacation days to enjoy this outrageous and satisfying and like so forward looked to event, but Saturday is my final on-water training w/auxies. Have fun gang. Ill just sit around the back yard and climb up in my boat, pop one open, maybe play some Jimmy Buffet for Bigshot when he sees the manatees. Im off everyother weekend, unfortunately this falls on the weekend I have to work. |

Janis, I'm still not sure of the date(s) but anytime is a good time for the St. John's. Looks like a couple of the regulars (if you can call them that) cant make it on the May 3rd weekend. Maybe they can post a date that will work for them. Like you said, the following weekend, May 10 & 11; this works for me. See you in Stuart if you are still going. Smirk |

Thought I would check out the area this last weekend. Ended up running over 60 miles up river to Palatka. Lake George was calm and the air had just a little coolness to it. Just about ran out of gas twice running at a 40 mph cruise. Used some oil too. Stopped in the springs at Juniper creek for a dip in the cool clear water and have a couple of beers. There were about 40 boats, couple of Whalers. It was enjoyable but would be more fun with a pack of Whalers. Janis, is the weekend of 6/7-6/8 good for you? Smirk :-) |

On Friday, June 6th, we will be hosting the Cookout/Captains Meeting here out our house. We will have our meal starting around 7:30, and will wait on all confirmed attendees before starting the meeting. Saturday's events include, but are not limited to, a scavenger hunt, a trip to Blue Springs State Park, (so Big can see the Manatees;), skiing, swimming and fun. We will stop by several island spots along the way. So, bring your wakeboards, ski's, ropes, and tubes. You will be responsible for your own breakfast and lunch on Saturday. So pack your coolers, or there are several restaurants on the river we can have lunch. At the end of the day, we will go to Sunrise Fish Camp; ("Roy's") and have dinner. We will attend the restaurant right off the river from our boats, so dress attire is not an issue. (Geez if Roy saw me in full clothing, he might not recognize me) Roy has great food, for little money, Tom and I can eat there for about $25.00. They serve beer and wine, and have take out if we want to order from the lake and eat on our boats. He also has beer/cokes if someone runs out during the day. A map will be provided at the captain's meeting. We will then take a night cruise back to Hontoon Landing, where we all should stay. I suggest making reservations at Hontoon, as I don't know availability. On Sunday, we will have a "Boat Brunch" which will include our famous "Goombay Smaches", then head out for the day. Stay tuned for directions, but I need a head count on the first. Take care, Janis |

Janis, thanks for putting this rendezvous together. Although I have been on the river many times, I loved staying on the houseboat and eating at a couple of new local restaurants. Chill'in in the springs and running in the rain are things best done with friends with Whalers. Waking up on the houseboat made me wonder if the boat was moving or my head was spinning but a good home-cooked breakfast got me squared away inspite of the loud osprey on the tree above. Too many good times to share here. Our group was small but friendly and I hope to see you all again soon. Thanks again Janis. |

Yepper! Had a great time! As usual hang'en with the whaler crowd makes it all just so right! Al-a-by with his portable ho'made double-barreled beer dispenser, his two daughters and that old banana boat. I had fun tubing behind it. Great to meet him and family. Smirkless with his pristine showpiece of a boat. We were buzzing around in it, catching wakes, a few 12 oz curls, having a good ole time! Bigshot and wifey crewed with me and we just had a "swell" time! ;) Had fun swimming in Blue Springs in the crystal clear 72 cold waters. We saw big bass, schools of mullet, huge gar fish and some cute otters! Biggie was pouting cuz he didnt see any manatees or hear Buffet music.. Finally Draftsman and wifey put all of this together. They put me up "OR PUT UP WITH ME" in their sweet home in the woods, fed me wonderful meals and kept me hydrated! MMMMMHHHH! That mouthwatering tenderazz steak and garlic mash taters still keep my mouth watering. Cheers to Draftsman for gathering up all the breakfast goodies and taking them to the houseboat on Sunday morning was a treat. Janis did a great job, hooked me up with labels on my whaler saying "Showtime" Damn! Life is good!Oh well, Homosassa is coming up and Biggies B-day 8/9! Stay tuned yall! |

Wow - I'm really late on this. I guess that I was left speechless by Janis and Tom's hospolity and great organizational skills in pulling this get together together....Having been my first rendezvous (aren't we boycotting things French?) I was really unsure of what was going to happen, how to act, were we going to be eaten by cannibals, etc... My daughters even asked, "This isn't some kinda cult thing is it?" After lying my a** off and assuring them that Whaler fanatics are not cult like, we set off from Melbourne for the two hour drive. We got to the end of the road and thought we might want to bring the boat along too. Arriving at the provided address, I began to rethink my answer. Boy, does Janis live out in the boonies. I guess my first indication of trouble should have been when the directions included "...turn off of the dirt road....". Seriously, what a great house Tom and Janis have. The folks at Hontoon Landing were really nice although the water was way too low to launch at their ramp. At the Captain's dinner, Janis and Swellmonster assured me that the ramp over at Holly Bluff was better. Well, I hustled the kids out of bed early so we could be in the water in plenty of time (really wanted to avoid an audience) and headed over to Holly Bluff. Prepped the boat and promptly backed the wheels off the end of the ramp. At least the boat floated free.... Oh Well, so much for the consummate professional.... We had a really great time diving the springs, cruising the primordial forests, providing a smoke screen for the rest of the armada, and just enjoying the fellowship of other cultists, I mean Whaler enthusiasts. Not even the Noah like downpour could dampen the good times. Thanks to Smirkless, Swellmonster, Bigshot and his wife and especially Janis and Tom for a great time. BTW - I will scan in our pics when developed. Al W.
