Stump Pass, Englewood Florida get together August 23 and perhaps carryover to the 24th. Stump Pass has been recently dredged to open the old pass, which cut through the island. The new pass made a great boating area to park and swim. The water in the Gulf is three to five feet out three hundred yards off the beach. The cove area is full of boats on the weekend and offers a lot of all around fun.
I will post hotels available in the area, and ramps.
If you have not been on any of the Rendezvous around Southwest Florida this one should be exciting. You will get the opportunity to meet some fun and knowledgeable people. Look forward to seeing you there.

I wish I could go to this one (don't have a free weekend til Oct.) We were down there two weeks ago. Cove was filled with boats (never had seen that before.) The Stump Pass Marina has an outdoor bar resturant with a pool (enjoyed the college girls chicken fighting in the pool.)

That whole area is one of the best places in FL. Run S 12 miles to Boca Grande, then to Cayo Costa. The best.

Knight Island (the most northern island bordered to the north by Stump Pass), Don Pedro island (the "middle island), and Little Gasparilla island, the most southernly island, were originally three separate island, divided by passes. When the pass between Knight Island and Don Pedro, and the pass between Don Pedro and Little Gasparilla Island closed in (sometime in the 1960s) the islands became one, with more than seven miles of beach.
Palm Island Resort encompasses the northern two miles and is a private resort area, with golf cart or walking access only. Rum Bay Restaurant and a small resort shop are located at the resort.

The area of island you are staying on is known as Palm Island Estates and is approximately two and a half miles long, including Knight Island, and over the big bridge, Don Pedro Island. South of the road access, lies the Don Pedro Island State Park which is approximately 135 acres of natural, pristine land. You can access the state park by boat or a beach walk. There are bathroom facilities in the park area.

To the south of the State Park lies Little Gasparilla, an island accessible by private boat with approximately 300 homes, mostly part-time residents. Development there was started somewhere during the turn of the century. Some of the older "fish camps" still can be seen. Today, there are some exclusive homesites and two condominium communities.

Palm Island Estates is home to approximately 100 families who live here full time. There are approximately 225 existing residences, some used every weekend, others on a part time basis. Many owners rent their homes when they are not using them.

There are about thirty school aged children who live full time on the island. The parents "boat pool" them to school or they travel via ferry to the mainland to catch the bus at the landing.

Janis, A suggestion: While at Bristol for the races you could bring the boat and tour some of the area lakes after or before the race. Fontanna, NC (Bryson City, 1.5 - 2 hrs from Knoxville) is a beautiful mountain lake with clear/deep water. Fontanna village offers...camping, horse back riding, swimming, archery, biking and hiking trails. Just a thought.

I was wondering how I was going to carry all this crap I need to camp at Bristol, now I can just load in the boat!:)
I needed an excuse for the hubby as to why I would like to bring my boat to a race,...now I got one! I put letters on the back of my rain gear that read, "My husband said we were going fishing"...Now I can even bump the tent and just sleep in the boat. (Just Kiddin':)

Don: we would love to see you again, but Cheryl and I are both working Saturdays. Lots of logistical problems as well: the 16 is for sale so I'm trying to keep from running it, and the replacement (a Cape Horn 19)is getting serviced, and probably won't be done.
Cheryl is 6 months pregnant BTW, but so far is handling boat riding ok.

Well so much for 12 o'clock but 1:45 was not too bad.

Took about 1.5 hours to get back as well. I burned a total of about 7 gals of fuel.....love that engine. Had some nice glow to the upper body as well. Sun was strong. Smitty ran out of gas(thanks to Pat) but right at the ramp. Charlotte harbor was even smoother on the way home, like a lake. Still had 8 beers when I got home.....not a very productive day I guess:)

Thanks to Pat I did not get home until after dark. He broke a chair at the Captains Club while sitting. It was a good laugh to see him pinned under the table and chair. It must have been the extra weight from the pitcher of beer he was holding. He started dancing around to celebrate. Good thing today is his birthday or I would continue to report about all of the events :) I will say that he had small eye for sure. ;) If it makes you feel any better Nick, I had quite a few beers left over myself.
It was great to meet some new people and see everybody again. It was a shame the water was not as clear as it has been in the past. Thanks for the memories.

Finally got out for awhile monday- went from Titusville up to Ponce Inlet and back- saw a few 'big' Outrages on trailers behind the Whaler plant ( had no decals or any markings), passed a 21 Outrage and 2 nice Whalers at the coast gaurd station at ponce inlet- 1 looked brand new on a trailer full cg markings maybe a 27+ Outrage- pretty cool!

He said it was a dog! He thinks the front was too heavy. Top speed was only in the mid 40's.
He also said it had 160 gal fuel tank.
Wonder what the top HP for that boat would be?

When is the next rendevous in our area? I hope it is soon.

We had a great time at Stump Pass. Standing in clear waist deep water, drinking beer, talking Whalers and peeing; without having to change location...Yee Haa
