Gonna be the big 34 on saturday and are gathering for a BBQ and fun times at Beercan Beach on August 8th. Anyone who is anyone will be there:)

E-mail if you need directions. Beercan is just inside and south "IN" Longboat pass on the Bradenton/Sarasota border. It is just west of the bridge. From the ICW, the next inlet south of Cortez bridge. From the south, next inlet north of Bigpass I believe.

Happy birthday Bigshot!
I'm sorry I will not be able to attend. I'll just have to watch for it on Access Hollywood.

Me and a group o' fellow boneheads will be wrappin' up a four day fishin' trip to Grand Isle, LA next Sat'day. Promptly at noon, Flor'da time, we will raise cold bottles of Abita Turbo Dog to your 34th, Big. May you live t'be 100, so long's you want t'be that old.

Just curious, Hooter, what is the significance of noon Florida time? That would be 11:00 AM at Grand Isle. Wouldn't it more appropriate to toast him with the first beer of the day?

34?! man, when i was your age (last yr:)

DJ, that was just so's Big'll know when he's bein' toasted. Wouldn't want to suggest the boy'd be drinkin' before noon, his self bein' brought up propper and all. Mah crew'll have started the mornin' with beer and boudin at sun up, most likely (ser'ous fisherman's breakfast down here, don't you know), and'll just be takin' a break from killin' trout at 'bout 11:00 a.m. t'do the toastin'.
34 was a good year, as Ah recall, but it was too damn long ago.

Have a good one, Bigshot.

Hey Big,
I can't make it on Friday. I am tethered to my office chair since I have been on vacation for a couple of weeks. Now Saturday is another story. Happy Birthday! I will toast you in Englewood.

Cool....now who else is going to join Don and myself?

Actually we have about 6 boats so far, nobody from here(except Don) but many know my wife and my bud Brian with the 23 SeaCraft.

Happy Birthday Nick, I'll have to open a Barolo or Barbaresco for you. I won't even mention why. At least I get to look at the water every day (We live alongside a river at the bottom of Lake Maggiore) and wish I had some foam and fiberglass under me.

Frank....If I lived at the "bottom" of Lake Maggoire, I would WANT some foam and fiberglass underneath me too:)

Happy Birthday Nick,
Although I won't be able to attend your Birthday Beach Party (BBP) in person, I will be on the water just past the Big Bend way up here in the Panhandle.

I never aquired a taste for the Hops & Barley, I will lift a can of the drink of choice for DD's "Coke" and look to the Southeast as I think of you washing away another year on the life clock.

Happy birthday! Not far behind here at 33.
May be out there this weekend or next- will stop and say hi if it is this weekend. Depends on the weather- rained bad everyday here in Orlando last 2 weeks- stood in front of store 15 minutes before able to dodge lightning between sidewalk and truck today!
Are there any decent boat ramps nearby? The last time we were there we put in the water near downtown Sarasota off Tamiami Trail?

After 2800 miles on the last rendezvous, hell what's another 200. I'll be there...

Tons of ramps...Sarasota is a nightmare. Must be 10 in manatee county, let me know if you are coming and from where and I will get you a ramp.

Those who are trailering.....meet at my house if ya want in the AM. Those who need a ramp, let me know. Those who need a hotel....ditto, etc. Hell you got Expedia.com:)

Janis....lokk forward to seeing you and it is only about 160 miles I think.....but I am worth every tenth.

Pat....don't even THINK of threatening me with your girlfriend coming AGAIN. Yeah yeah... I know but you'll come solo.

She works Saturday so Im taking her brother Brian. Hes a bunch of fun, way cool, we will have a good. I told him to bring a rain jacket, he said great! It sounds like whaler weather!
Bruce and Monica are on deck, and maybe Draftsmanswife might also be a crew member, but she just got back from a trip so she has a lot of catching up to do. "clean and vacuum, cook and polish and iron" typical wife duties ;)

I also told Janis she could crash at my pad and be anchor wench on the Newtauk. Should have the boat ready for saturday if the weather holds out tonight.

Nick - Have a great birthday. If the weather holds may be able to toast you in person. If not will do a Hooter at noon ;). Is the ICW now a slow zone from north Anna Maria to Longboat pass?

Bigshot,

Happy Birthday.

Just how far down the ICW is that location from the BB marker. Can I make it in a day in my Montauk??? :)

Best wishes for a good bash. I used to be that young once.

Tom

Bill the ICW is NOT SSNW until you get to the Cortez bridge. Once through the bridge a hudred yards or so.....reume normal safe operating speed. At the next set of markers it T's off to Beercan on your port. Literally 15-20 minutes from Eggmont in your rig even if choppy. I'll bring you a couple gallons of gas if ya like.

Tight$....you could make it in a day.....to Maryland or so:) I'll be up on LBI in a few weeks, we'll pound some beers at the inlet.

Bigshot posted 08-08-2003 11:13 AM ET (US)     Profile for Bigshot  Send Email to Bigshot
Sorry Bill....make that your starboard side that beercan is on, right passed the bridge.

Look at the little sandbar SW of the bridge. Scroll your mouse to GPS coordinates 27.26.30N & 82.41.17W
This is where we are supposed to be.

Unless downright nasty.....I'm going. I spent TOO much damn time getting this boat ready not to. Interior is still not done but she is functional, just have to hook up a gas tank and go in the AM. Plan on being there 10:30-11 as well. If anyone gets lost or ???? My cel is 941-545-3808.

Any word from Janis or Don, etc?

Nick - Sorry to miss your bash. My baby's on a friend's lift in north St. Pete near Gandy. Would probably try it if it weren't 30+ miles one way. Already raining and thundering. Still, at noon, gonna hoist one in absentia. Good reason to head to the gin mill. Happy BD.

Happy Birthday,Nick!!! Hope the weather turned out OK. I hear it's been raining a lot. Sunny, dry , and very, very hot here in Italy. ( Even at the "bottom" of Lake Maggiore)I think I saw a 15 or 13 without a motor in a boatyard yesterday. Might have to go take a look.

Rained like hell. Swellmonster and his future brother-in-law came by boat sporting rain gear. Don Wilson(Inhernet) towed his up, and Chris and his wife towed their 16 Dauntless from Orlando. We met at a boat ramp right next to Beercan and hung out and BBQ'd under a pavillion. It let up a little and we dropped the boats in the water real quick and went for a 15 minute spin.....man did that hurt. My boat would not go into reverse because I crimped the shift cable when I pulled it through the tunnel, all fixed now. I went on Don's Montauk 170 and was very impressed. You can feel the weight difference. Performance with the 90 2 stroke was pretty close to what my Classic gives with the 70 4 stroke. Top end might be a couple mph higher but holeshot is close. I liked the setup. Well we drank a few beers and watched the rain and fed some birds and shot the bull. Gonna try it again at stump pass in a couple weeks.

Thanks for coming guys and gals.

Well, I'm sorry I missed the shitty weather and the breakdown of boats, but had to work and get caught up.
Tell ya'll what,...let's meet at Green Turtle Cay in September for my 35th...
Love to all, and sorry I could'nt be the BBB for the day, it would've been a pleasure to be on anyone of your boats >^..^<

I still had a good time, despite the down pour. It was sunny at the dock when we left, but I saw the storm comming and just didnt care. Just a few lightning bolts... I had the choice of the smooth intercoastal or the 3-5 swells with those occasional big ones. I was on the nothern tip of Anna Maria and I told my bud that We need tt stay at approx 150 cause when that storm came, we couldnt see land, which was maybe 400 yards away. It was nice, the torrential downpour held the waves smooth. The sound was awesome! Then the winds came through and the temperature dropped. We were running at angles through the troff, just loving being in a self bailing whaler! Only saw 3 other boats in the water on the way there.
Got to beer can, hopped in the warm 89 degree water and popped open a few cold ones. The storm got on us. Had to drink the beer under the swim ladder to keep the beer from being diluted. Not much room to tilt the head back.
Hooked up with rest of the gang, as they were all dry hanging out under the shelter. Nicks friend Bryan grilled up an awesome chicken and dog sandwich. I mixed it all up, threw in some tortilla chips, mustard, bbq sause, whatever I could find. I got to drive the 16 Dauntless as others took my boat. Fun boat to drive around. We toyed around in the rough water to get some action photos. I found a camera battery in my scupper.
Had an interesting day, gotta love my Whaler!

We were finally dried out by the time we got back to Orlando. Even with the downpours we had a fun time- got to meet some new friends. Sorry but won't be able to make it to stump pass- new work schedule has me working that saturday but hope to get together again maybe on St. John's next time? Is there such a thing as 4footitis?- might have it now after driving Swell's boat vs. my 16..haha
