Somehow, I got talked into paying for a discounted hotel room on Hilton Head Island in exhange for spending 90 minutes listening to a time share sales presentation.

I thought that we would go by boat and be there Nov 24-26. Has anyone gone to Hilton Head by boat before? Would this be a good place to rendezvous? We paid for three days there and a round a golf, plus another two nights at another location (our choice), all for $139. Maybe others could get the same deal? Any interest?

We drove the boat to Hilton Head from Charleston over July 4th weekend. Hilton Head is an excellent place for boating. We went all the way around Dafuski one day, and down to Tybee another day. You will enjoy the trip. Sounds like you will not have much time for boating though.

Definitely carry the Whaler. We were down this summer with our 15’ Dauntless. There is a good free ramp just as you drive on to the island. We dropped our trailer there for the weekend and it was fine. Kept the boat at Skull Creek Marina, very nice people. There are allot of nice restaurants on the island that are accessible by boat.

The tentative plan is to trailer the boat to Conway, SC, spend Friday night in a hotel in Conway, leave Conway by boat on Saturday morning (on the Waccamaw River), have lunch in Georgetown, SC (at Thomas's Restaurant), and arrive in Charleston Saturday night. 120 water miles for the day.

I have no idea where we would dock the boat (Ashley Marina?) or get a hotel in Charleston. Any suggestions?

On Sunday, we would spend all day in Charleston (walking, eating, shopping—making the wife happy).

On Monday, the plan is to go to Hilton Head by boat. I have never made this leg of the trip and do not know how far this would be.

We will spend Monday night though Wednesday night on Hilton Head. Either on Tuesday or Wednesday we will rent a car and drive over to Conway to bring the other car and the trailer to Hilton Head.

On Thursday, we will load the boat on the trailer and head inland to visit relatives for a Thanksgiving celebration.

I wish that another family could join us....

David,

It's 63 miles from Charleston to Hilton Head via the IntraCoastal waterway. We did the trip in our Montauk and later our Outrage. You can also go offshore if the weather is nice in about half the time.

There is a boatel in Charleston on the Ashley River side (Hampton Inn, I think), plus there is a Marriott on the Cooper River side at the marina (this one being more upscale). Also, on Shem Creek, the Shem Creek Inn has boat slips if you are a guest --that is where Joyce and I spent our first honeymoon night (the rest were on the Bahamas rendezvous).

Would love to go down with you, but it looks like my time is taken between now and the first of the year. My parents are moving in with us and we are adding on to the house, so the boat has not been used all summer.

Have a great trip!

Ace

David,
Your trip but might consider doing the boat thing at Beaufort instead of Charleston. Time and weather constraints considered. Best Western in Beaufort is across from the municipal dock and is a good place. Beaufort is a mini Charleston, enough to keep mama happy and it's a short hop to Hilton Head.
IMHO Hilton Head is the most overrared place on the SE coast.
Enjoy the trip. Sorry I am commited elsewhere.
Jim
