After the Christmas my family and I are going to Florida for a few days and then going on a week long cruise.

Nothings planed for the three days that we are gonna be down there. I always read about forum members getting together. I won't have my boat but people who's house we are staying in have two, not whalers though.
Will it be to cold for boating?

What part of Florida do you guys hang out in?

Been a little cool in Orlando (about an hour from Tampa) but should be warm again soon. Cool here means I had to wear pants, not shorts to work this week. May take the Whaler out tomorrow or Sunday. Supposed to be a boat parade this weekend on the St. John's river

Let me know EXACTLY where and maybe we can hook up and I'll show you how sweet a Montauk is with a 4 stroke. Also extend some southern hospitality which you Mass people know nothing about....along with good BBQ :)
ryanwhaler posted 12-13-2003 09:02 AM ET (US)     Profile for ryanwhaler  Send Email to ryanwhaler
I'm not sure exactly where yet. It may be my dads friends winter home in Tampa Bay of if my mom gets her way it will be a hotel. My dad's in Atlantic city for the weekend, so I can't even ask him right now.

I'll let you know as the time approaches, nothing set in stone yet, all I know is that we will be there for a few days and then are going on a cruse.

Yepper!

Southern Hospitaility at it finest is available all around Tampa Bay and her vacinities. The weather is always warm enough to boat as long as the sky keeps out the rain. Let us know and you'll be all hooked up!!!! :)

I was out around Memorial Day last year in Boston Harbor in a 19' Penn Yan, Talk about cold and wet- then we put the boat in the water! Was pretty nice just cruising around. Got some nice pictures somewhere.

I can't make any comitments yet.
I found out that we are going to viset my dads uncle what lives down there, so thats a day right there.

I'll let you know, but I won't know much more untill after the christmas.

I've always been weary about these rendezvous, I'd be worryed that someone that I pissed off over the last year on the forum would jump me. :-p But I survived one, so maybe its all in my head. ;-)

Ryan- come on down and we'll have a blast. It's supposed to get in the 30's in Orlando tonight so looking forward to warmer weather.

i will be in the naples area from jan 17-23,should i bring a fishing pole and will i need a license?
Bigshot posted 12-22-2003 12:02 PM ET (US)     Profile for Bigshot  Send Email to Bigshot
If you fish from land(bridge, pier, etc)you do NOT need a license. If you fish from a vessel you do, unless a commercial vessel. If you fish from a vessel with a bamboo rod w/o a reel, you do not need a license as well. here are seperate licenses for fresh and salt water.

Thanks for the info,i think i'll be sneeking a rod in the back of the wagon, just in case.will a 6 ft med-hvy with 10-12 lbs be good for most of what i'll catch?any lures that are "must haves"?
Jarhead posted 12-22-2003 03:47 PM ET (US)     Profile for Jarhead  Send Email to Jarhead
The way I understand it out of state anglers DO need a licence to fish anywhere in Florida.

Florida state residents don't need a licence to fish from a bridge or dock in saltwater...

Don't know but nobody on piers checks for them.

The pier is licensed so people don't have to. It is called a commercial fishing license.

I'm planning a trip up north shortly Ryan and Burlington is on my way so maybe we'll have a chance for a face to face soon. If not I'll be looking forward to your Florida visit.

Git that beer license! Big, let me know, and I'll pick up Swell on the way. Don't worry Ryan, I'll protect you:)
Looking forward to seeing everyone, and well, let's face it, this is the time all the people from up north head to florida, so hey locals, let's show some real southern hospitality, and lock something down soon.
Take care,
Janis

I've grown weary, as I'm sure most have as well, of this banter.

Go luck Ryan. I mean that sincerely.

Skip the family stuff and go boating! We were 37 miles offshore yesterday (not in a Whaler, too bad) Was great until a squall line turned it into 3-5 ft soup. No fish caught but a good New Years day. Was on a 26' Century WA with twin 200 Yammies. Would have been a lot wetter on my Dauntless 160 but maybe more fun! Saw one Dauntless 16 and a Montauk in Port Canaveral and wish I was on mine instead.
