At the last gathering, many of you said "how about another one in September. Given that it is August, here we go.

Please post your blackout dates and preferences.

I prefer it NOT be Labor Day weekend.

I am out of town August 28th and 29th, and Labor Day weekend.

Any interest in Sunday August 22 at the sandbar in the Merrimack River? Low tide is just after 11:00 am which would give us a nice window from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm (lunch time).

I was there this past Saturday. There is plenty of room, easy anchorage, easy to offload people, and a great spot to swim and eat sand (as my 1 yr old showed me!).

I will be in Maine from August 16- August 29 and would be interested in joining the get together if it is in this range!

August 22 sounds like a good date before Labor Day. I'd leave the boat on the trailer after the "Big Lake" rendezvous then trailer it down. I need a launch site down in that area and would appreciate any info. Thanks.

Now that we have interest, where do we want to meet and where do we want to go?

The 22nd is coming up fast. Who wants to meet in the Merrimack river?

I think I am up for it. Is there a good ramp near where we are going to meet?

Pete - You have mail

All - Waiting to hear if Kyle (York Harbor) is up for it. He is off line so I am doing the phone thing.

Vink responded and has a conflict.

Tentative plan -

Launch at Eliot,ME ramp at 7:45 a.m., meet Kyle at the river mouth 8:00 a.m. and cruise down to Newburyport and up the river. Guessing it is an 1 hr at 25 mph?

If Kyle is not coming, launch at Newburyport town ramp? May meet up with Pete?

Nate - How far up the river is the sandbar?

newt posted 08-21-2004 03:46 PM ET (US)     Profile for newt  Send Email to newt
Phil,
Starting at Merimack River bouy (last one out), the "hump sands" are just left of the 4th green can (C 11) as you go up river. The first two cans are outside the jetties, so once you get inside the mouth the channel follows the north jetty and then makes a sharp (70-80 degrees)left around a green can. Your next marker is a red nun and the channel makes a sharp right (70-80 degrees), and then the next bouy is the #11 can. It's a little over 1 nautical mile in from the start of the jetties.

Just motor in slowly towards solid ground. You will see the chop breaking over the shallowest little sand humps. I plan on getting wet, and just jump into the water when it's less than waste high, and then pull the boat in close enough to offload the kids.

Bring some towels and a beach chair if you have one. I will have the wife and kids with me. The kids have a blast. The water is nice and warm on the river side.

Low tide is around 11:00, so I will try and be there around 9:30 - 10:00.

Phil,

If you end up launching in Newburyport, give me a call on the cell, and I will meet you at the ramp. I look forward to seeing you guys.

What a great day on the Merrimack (Newburyport,MA).

While yesterday was just pissy, (60's and major rain/humid) today was big blue skys, not a cloud to be seen. A bit cool 75 but dry.

Thanks to Nate (Newt), Pete (NH Katama) and Hobie for a great trip, sights and relaxation.

I will post the photos tomorrow.

Get up at 7 a.m, on a Sunday

Drive 160 miles roundtrip,

tolls - $8

Gas - $30

4 hours with CW guys - PRICELESS

Phil,

What was the bottle neck of boats waiting for? I have never been on the Merrimac River.

newt posted 08-23-2004 11:56 AM ET (US)     Profile for newt  Send Email to newt
Phil,

Thanks for posting the pics. Next time I promise to bring my digital camera!

Once again it was great to meet more continuous wavers, check out the boats, and spend good time on the water.

I look forward to the next rendezvous, and Phil, can't wait for the free tour of Casco Bay in a couple of weeks!

Sorry that I had to miss the gathering. I have never been down in that area. Next time I will be there "hell or high water." Of course the Whaler will still float on high water.
Phil your pictures look great as usual. Where did you launch?
Phil Tyson posted 08-23-2004 09:30 PM ET (US)     Profile for Phil Tyson  Send Email to Phil Tyson
With the trip over, I can now come clean, the real reason for the trip was to see Nate's new boat. Screw the comraderie.. LOL.

John - Not sure which photo, either the ones going up river (just alot of traffic)or at the end. The last ones were of us waiting in line at the ramp (i added descriptions to most of the photos, sometimes you need to scroll down to see it.

Vin -

Launched at Newburyport ramp, just north of the RT 1 bridge. Quiet at 9:30 but a zoo at 4 on a Saturday.. Good parking.

Phil-

It must have been the ramp picture. Was that Cigarette going up on a trailer?

Pete, I can't access your pictures. :(

Phil, Regarding the ramp traffic, you can see why I put up with my lousy town ramp - it's free and no lines! BTW, you get the "most willing to travel" award. Which Rendezvous is next on your list...Puget Sound?

JohnO, Sorry we missed you. I will put that impellor in the mail.

Pictures look good. Sorry I had to miss out, again!

Newt, I received your voice mail on Sunday morning, however, I had a prior family commitment.
