any Rendezvous trips for New Hampshire in particular planned

I'm all packed up for the season, but I look forward to some get-togethers next year.

I'm sure that we can plan a few get togethers. Sunapee Lake should still be on the list. Maybe Portland and Casco Bay and don't forget Second annual Big Lake. Also the Isles again and Boston, etc. etc. There is still a lot of time to plan. Hope all the Whalers are safely tucked in for the winter.

Hey 'Fan -

Rest easy. I would expect at least:

Kittery/Rye/Isle of Shoals
Merrimack River/Newburyport (right Newt?)
Lake Winn....
Boston Harbor

Casco Bay would be great but I am not sure the N. MA group would be able to make it this far.

(I am planning on going out on Casco Bay tomorrow (11/10), depite no floats at ramp. While I loose light by 4 ish, it doesn't matter since it is too freeking cold by 3:00. While it is 34 today, forecast is for 50.)

A "Spring Fling" sounds like a great a great idea Vin. The second annual Lake Winnepesaukee Rendezvous is a definite. Hopefully the Lake Sunapee Rendezvous will become a reality too.

Maybe us New Englanders should plan a mid-winter dinner at a restaurant on the seacoast after the holidays. Maybe in mid-February, when it's cold and nasty. Portsmouth has some great spots. Any thoughts?

Bob

The Press Room in Portsmouth has sea shanties every friday night. You can go listen to songs about real whalers. :)

Yes Bob, a Cabin Fever Reliever mid February sounds like a great idea. The Portsmouth area sounds like a good central location to include both the folks from the Big Lake area and those that came for the seacoast rendezvous from the Massachusetts area. I would suggest a Saturday so that those folks traveling some distance would not have to worry about their work schedules either getting there or getting back home in time. Let's get through the holidays and give it some serious thought for the new year. Let's hear it from some other folks.
vink posted 01-24-2005 03:32 PM ET (US)     Profile for vink  Send Email to vink
Now that the holidays are over and the frigid weather and snow has arrived should we think about a Whaler Cabin Fever Releiver? We originally thought about February. What are you ideas? My thoughts are to have it sometime mid or end of February in the Portsmouth area at a restaurant that is large enough so we do not have to make reservations incase the weather is bad. Phil.....you can show off that new son of yours!

I'm in. Any time except the day the Patriots take their 3rd superbowl in 4 years, or March 5 thru 12.

If we do Portsmouth, lets go late lunch like John suggested so we don't have to fight for space with the college kids.

I'm a new member to CW and would love to meet other NE members. In the future, I'd offer to host a get together
at the Kittery Point Yacht Club which is in New Castle, NH 1 min. outside of Portsmouth. We don't have a restaurant, but great place to gather on the water. -Doug

Doug - glad to have you onboard. Last summer we had a rendezvous at Rye and went out to the Isles. Some of us launched in Eliot and York while others came up from Mass. It was a great get together. Maybe we could meet at your location this summer. Hope you join us for the Whaler Cabin Fever Releiver. I hope more people read the post over this weekend then can can make some plans.

I need this gathering bad since my newborn son has been taking all of my awake and sleeping time for the last 8 weeks now.

Sounds like all are okay for LUNCH!

I was about to mention that with the right numbers, I'd bet we could get BWhaler to sponsor or at least pick up a few rounds, ala the Stuart FL event.

Thoughts?

vink posted 02-02-2005 10:28 PM ET (US)     Profile for vink  Send Email to vink
It looks like Feb. 19th seems to be the most popular date. My personal feeling is that Boston would be too far to go for some people and we want to keep this get together in a central location.
Now I've been trying to think of a place for a luncheon where we would not have to make a reservation just incase of bad weather. Also, some folks mentioned that they would be bringing their children. One place that comes to mind where a large group can all sit together without a reservation is Newick's in Dover Point. For those who are not familiar with this a seafood restraunt but has a children's menu and serves other items.
These are my thoughts. What are yours?
BB62Ding posted 02-03-2005 08:14 AM ET (US)     Profile for BB62Ding  Send Email to BB62Ding
Newick's was my first thought, too. Plenty of room, should have no problem getting a table in mid afternoon, pretty good seafood, plenty of parking(always a problem in downtown Portsmouth). Here is a link to their website which has info and directions.

BB62Ding posted 02-03-2005 02:47 PM ET (US)     Profile for BB62Ding  Send Email to BB62Ding
No, that was Yoken's, which is now closed. There used to be a Newick's on Rt.1 down near Hampton, but that is also closed. This is up the Spaulding Turnpike (Route 16) from Rt 95 or the traffic circle. It's on the Great Bay.

OK! WE WILL ALL MEET AT NEWICK'S IN DOVER POINT ON FEBRUARY 19th.

Newick's web site states they do not need a precount but in order for them to set up an area the first one there should give them an approximate number. So, we need to know how many people in your party and we need to set a time. Therefore, post the number and a time you think is best and we will go with the consensus.

Number in party: 2 Time: 2:00 PM

So far it looks like we will have 12-14 adults and two cadets at our Whaler Cabin Fever Releiver at Newick's next Saturday at 2:00 PM. If the first person there would give this info to the hostess they can have an area set aside for us. I'm sure that there will be plenty of room for any others who want to attned at the last minute. Also, the long range forecast looks like the weather will be in our favor. See you there..........

Yorkharbor,

The last week in June is the Gloucester St Peter's festival.

Blessing of the fleet, greasy pole, carnivale and lots of food and drink. It is a real blast from the past.

One of the last real family chunks of Americana.

I heard about the greasy pole thing before, it sounds like fin.
Hows boat traffic when all thats going on?

We'd like to make at least one trip to Gloucester this summer, getting together with you guys would be great.

John O posted 02-18-2005 07:45 AM ET (US)     Profile for John O
Ryan, About 50 boats all tie up around the pole which is mounted to a free standing dock about 50 yds off the beach. The pole extends horizontally and is load with grease. At the end of the pole is a flag. The objest is to walk out on the pole and grab the flag.

The fiesta is a 4 day long event with the greasy pole contest being held on the last three days with the finals on Sunday. Sunday is the big day. They also have seine boat races.
The geasy pole event is held in the outer harbor making it accessable for boaters.

Whether you come up by boat or car the weekend is a great family time. Again it is the last weekend in June. Let me know if you decide to make the trip.

Thanks to everyone who made it to Newicks last Saturday for our Boston Whaler lunch. It was nice see vink (Vin & Lucille) again, and to meet newt (w/his daughter), John O (w/his wife and son)and bkoelbel. It's nice to be able to put a face to the names on the forum. Can't believe how great the kids were. Both you guys are lucky, but I'm sure they were on their best behavior for this special event!

Thanks to Vin for getting all those free goodys from Boston Whaler Corporate. We won't tell the "no shows" what we got, let them suffer with suspense!

We are looking forward to getting together this summer - on the Seacoast, The 2nd Annual "Big Lake" and maybe Lake Sunapee. It's always fun to meet and talk BW's.

Phil,

Thanks for sharing. Beautiful child ! Takes after mom ofcourse.
We have a great get together on Saturday. Some suspicions were in order due to the fact that both Newts daughter and my son have brilliant blue eyes and neither one of us do.

Newt mentioned something about a cabana boy from the islands and I the postman.

Newicks turned out to be the ideal setting for the lunch. It is a huge open resturant with family style long tables. The sun was shinning over the river begging us to put our boats in.
Our waitress was pleasant and good with the children bringing them Crayons.

It turns out that her husband owns a 35 foot tuna boat and fishes out of Kennebunk Port, Me and Gloucester, Ma.

Let's get busy on planning a Spring outing on the water !!!!

A terrific luncheon, and a special thanks to vink for scoring the fine giveaways from Whaler. The white logo sticker is already on my '96 Land Cruiser!

John O's 'identification' of the other gift was sketchy at best, but how can we begrudge a 'Mr. O'Leary' the grand prize as St. Patty's Day approaches?

If our luncheon location was as desirable and convenient for everyone as it seemed, let me propose a Spring rendezvous just a bit west of Newick's, around the bend at Fox Point in Little Bay.

It's a great place to anchor or raft up, plenty of room for those who wish to tube or ski with the family, and when the weather cooperates, the shallower water is comfortable for swimming.

The public launches in Eliot, Dover, and Portsmouth are all close by, with full marine services at Great Bay Marina just across the bay from Newicks. The striper fishing near the bases of the Sullivan Bridge is excellent, just mind the rip. The schoolies near Goat Island are mayhem on light tackle around Father's Day as well.

Hang in there, Spring's a comin'!!!!!

That sounds like a great place to have a redezvous. It's easy to find and those tankers flying overhead can get your attention! This is only a suggestion........ Since we have such an active group I think this thread is getting TOOOOOO long and we need to start a new one for each rendezvous. Such as Great Bay Rendezvous, Big Lake, etc. What do you think? Yes, it was a nice get together last Saturday.....The company and fellowship was great, the location and service (and server) were great and the food was great.
