OK, gang, I'm cooling my heels(literally) in Italy for a month. Working sucks. Let's try and figure out a Where and When for our next gathering. I am back in FL probably the last week of January, maybe the first of Feb.

I heard through the grape vine that Whaler is planing the following rendezvous for Florida:

Stuart May 13-15

Sarasotta May Memorial Day Weekend May 27-29

And my personal favorite Bimini July 7-10!!

Go to their website and look at event calnedar. The Stuart & Sarasota events are wonderfull....do both if you can. You get more in giveaways then the $25 fee. They usually give you $20-40 in 2 stroke oil plus t-shirts, etc.

Frank....say the word brother. Wanna do another Shell key rendezvous(like our 1st) in St Pete?

Shell key sounds like a good idea. Sandy can get to see the kids too. Nick, now that your $500 lighter I'll bring extra beer.Too bad about that one.

Wrong part of St Pete but there is a nice restaurant and bar within swimming distance of where we beach. Camping is allowed as well.

Not beat on the $500 yet Frank but you can still bring the beer and keep the rig at my dock....will keep ya posted.

Decisions, Decisions... Do I sign my wife up for the Stuart event with the 15' Rage, and sign myself up with the 15' Sport? Or Vice-Versa?

And, do I tell the Boss at work so he can bring the 25' Frontier??

You guys must call the 1800 number, because the website still has the 2004 dates posted... Maybe I'll just have to stop at Marine Max Stuart on my lunch break next week...

How about Beer Can, mid February.
The Judge posted 01-05-2005 10:13 AM ET (US)     Profile for The Judge  Send Email to The Judge
No problem!

If anyone wants/needs directions to Beercan, e-mail me. It is the place we did the last rendezvous(my going away party) and 2 or 3 others. It is basically the sandbar on the west side of Longboat pass bridge. Longboat pass is the inlet between Longboat Key and Anna Maria Island. Roughly midway between Skyway bridge and Sarasota. Most have been there, if not a pretty cool place, especially in the winter when the water is crystal clear(usually).

When?

Al, I have been SCUBA diving at Roatan at night under a full moon. We turn off all handheld lights and went with the light of the moon. It was unbelieveable. If a full moon coincides with that trip, be sure to do a night dive.

I left my boat near Sarasota on my last trip and I will need to return to Florida to retrieve it in late-February or early-March. I hope it works out that I can make this rendezvous. Is Beer Can a place where I could pitch a tent or will I need to find a hotel at the end of the day?

We also have to set up a Ft Lauderdale weekend and go visit our friend Smitty. I have clients down there that I also need to see by Easter.

There is a ramp at the base of the bridge that separates Longboat Key from Bradenton Beach on the northeast side. The bridge also overlooks Beer Can Isle. If it is too windy or cold to cook out, there is a waterfront seafood / burger place with docking just south of the Cortez bridge on the Island. Very casual and the food is pretty good.

There are about a dozen waterfront restaurants along the ICW near beercan. NOBODY ever goes to one because we are having too much fun cooking and shooting the bull.

If you want to see the area I suggest you do not use the Bradenton beach(coquina) ramp being it is 300 yards from beercan. It is also like driving the gauntlet home with the trailer with the 25mph limits and cops looking to ticket(I hate Anna Marie island driving). I will as usual offer anyone to meet at my house which is 1/2 mile off RT75 and 1/2 mile to a local ramp where we it takes about 45-1hour to get to beercan by river and ICW. If you want to meet at my place e-mail me for directions and rendezvous time will be 9:30am so we can get to beercan by 11ish.

As far as what to bring....BEER in cans(hence the name) and whatever you want to eat or cook. If you plan on catching what you eat...bring a backup:) No dogs are allowed on Beercan and I don't "think" you can camp there. You can anchor overnight though. If you forget ANYTHING there are plenty of local joints to buy food/gas/oil/beer/etc.

I may be able to make this rendezvous but first I need to get my 19' Outrage from just east of Bradenton to the Rocket Internation Trailer factory in Fort Myers.

If any one is going to be heading down I-75 from Bradenton to Fort Myers and wants to help out a fellow Whaler owner and earn some beer and gas money, please contact me.

The boat is on a single-axle trailer. It takes a 2" ball.

Rocket International would ideally like to have the boat sometime around February 12.

What are they doing to it? If you are getting a new trailer....seriously look at Loadmaster in Brandon, FL which I could easily deliver or pick up a trailer for you.

I'll give it a look, Nick. Thanks. I'll take you up on the offer if I can work out a deal with Loadmaster.

I can bring a bar-be-que pit to the island if there is interest in cooking chicken or hot dogs.

I would like to introduce myself to this S.W. FL rendezvous post.

My name is Ric and I recently purchased a 1993 Mountauk 17 w/ 93' 90 Johnson. I will continue to read alot and post little on most forums since I am new to most subjects.

I owned a 13' when I was in undergraduate school...it was a tender that had never been used and no moter...I put a brand new 48 spl Johnson on it and did nothing but use that great little boat. My 17', while in very good shape for a 93', needs it's deserving TLC and therefore my quest for a little knowledge on this site)

Thanks to Jimh and all involved with this great site.

My wife Justine and I plan to attend the T/R on 2/19. We plan to trailer down from the Clearwater area to the Skyway ramp mentioned on this post and head down from there.

Happy whaling to all.

Sharkie,

Welcome!
I have a 20 Outrage, 225. Janice did it in her 13. As "Flip Wilson" ;0 put it, his 17 does it easily too. Smirkless took his 17 to Bimini. So secure your gear and throttle down! Last one in buys the beer..

Biggie,

With all the interest from the new talents, which of them is required to bring the beverages?

Frank, you said shrimp were easy, when did you change your name? ;)

Where2,
You can sign up for Stuart, then your wife can party with us @ Beer Can! LOL, wink wink!

FWIW, Captain Underpants and Lieutenant T-back very sucessfully survided Gasparilla! Wooo--hooo. So ladies, we have the beads and yall are gunna have to work for them!!! (.)(.)

I have a couple of packages of Wisconsin brats and I can bring some "real" Italian sausage down from Jersey. I'll provide rolls, etc. Maybe Capt. Underpants can bring his grill.

Gonna be a good time if we is gettin so upity so early on.

Hey....what about all those Naples area wussies that we went to Kice island with? I guess it is OK for us to trailer down there to get EATEN alive by geeters all night but we aint good enough for them to trailer north? What gives? Maybe the fact that I blew off 50 rounds at 10pm scared them a tad?

With the amount of new people joining this trip we may need another grill, or we cook the food in shifts. Anybody else bringing a grill?

Biggs, what caliber??? Been a while since I rattled off 50 rounds. zot. Oh, by the way, fiance will be in A.C. to see Brooks and Dunn on Presidents Day Weekend so if refurb is complete, will be bringin' some of my redneck friends---from Bergen County. We'll still be in Manatee, right?!?

Swellmonster,

Thanks for the Welcome.

I've done it many many times in a 13, but that was a few years ago in Miami Beach/North Miami area not Skyway/Bearcan area...:)

Thanks for the humor and advising me not to take off from Skyway... not interested in a longer than 30 min. ride that weekend.

P.S. to my previous intro... it was thanks to "The Judge" that I was able to find the 17' M. He posted it on this site and I got there pretty quickly afterward.

OK, I've got beer(in cans)somthing to eat(cause I'd starve if I had to fish for my dinner) and Ammo(for the SW Florida Biathalon) Do I need to bring anything out of the ordinary?
The Judge posted 02-01-2005 12:01 PM ET (US)     Profile for The Judge  Send Email to The Judge
Yes Myakka....a blow up sheep for Swellmonster that Don could throw beads at:)

Zotcha....Only a 22. My wife is from Bergen county so watch yer tongue. We are still in Manatee county at Beercan. 1/2 of Long boat key is manatee, other half is sarasota county.

Shark...you can put in at my house and follow me in my 17' along with Frank and some others. About 45min-hour depending on weather and tide. If tide is high we can cut across the flats and shave 15 mins or so but Frank will have to go around being it is only about 2'. No matter he drives like an idiot anyway:)

Is this on Saturday or Sunday???? I gotta work Sunday but may pay someone cash to get out of it. We'll come over definitley on saturday and maybe sunday if I can get out of work.
Judge- maybe we'll meet by your place and cruise down with you guys rather than the 300 yard ride from the ramp there. We can bring a little grill and some food too.
Maybe I'll even get wet this time.
Frank - bring the good sausage.
I didn't know Bergen County had rednecks- I thought they all lived in the woods in Sussex.

Hummm....who bought the car that can't take a trailer hitch?:) I'm glad I don't have to bring any feed for the inflatable sheep. Who's the lamb and who's the ram????? I wouldn't bring any guns to beercan, not with Capt. U and Lt. Skidmark taking turns with Bo Peep. One of them might get deflated by a stray round. Remember, beer and guns don't mix, so keep your ammo aout of my cooler!!!!!

Sorry 'bout the Bergen County comment. Now he's getting week at the knees. My buddy from Monmouth County (Gary) wants to come but his wife is expecting number three that weekend! He is the one that I opened the original Manhattan Bagel with in Bradenton about 8 or so years ago. Thank God for the Neo-natal wing of Sarasota Hospital!!! I'm coming alone if the refurb is complete. zot.

Ok…BigShot-Judge, You can change your name….but you can’t hide. Now I know the rules, I will make sure I am packing . Do flare guns count? How much would 50 rounds cost?

On a more serious note I have been following this never ending tread and it only took 75 post to come up with a firm date. After meeting the principles, I was not surprised it didn’t take longer. I am keeping an eye on the date and will do my best to show up. This 27/7/365 job is a pain when it comes to travel and I still have not found a trailer for the Revenge V-22. Going back to the 13 will be a reality check I would rather not do on an overnighter.

Janis is much younger…my old bones don’t do well sleeping in that little boat.

I will firm up…a few days before the event.

Damn we rule!!

Shark, I will take your beverages, crew and gear just to give you the chance to make the run, wide open. NO manatees in t-backs! I will keep an eye on your boat, especially with your beer on my boat, tee-hee! Seriosly, I will run with your boat the entire way and keep you protected. We are whaler buds! Also, dont fall into the trap of the "Judge" luring you to his house, he has a hot tub and you know where that goes...........

Chris, dont tell Bigg you will get wet......

Judge- There will never be another EWE! Ewe is the only one for me… baaa baaah.

Chris- You are right about the ramp 300 yards away, last event I must of put .001 hrs on the motor. I may put in at Sarasota’s city park and motor up if the weather is right or even somewhere else in Bradenton.

Myakka- Since you and I are neighbors where are you going to launch?

Frank – Alex wants to bring his water soaker and electric tazzer just for you. He is looking forward to getting even with you for the beverage you poured on his head last time.

Janis- What you are not going to be at this event?????? Sad to hear that..

Damn Aussies don't tow boats I guess. Actually I can get a hitch in Australia, not in the USA....go figure.

Chris this will be a saturday event that may pour over to sunday, especially if you are sleeping on your boat.

Frank...you can't bring a dog to Beercan without a ticket, can't imagine taking out a firearm.

Myakka....hook up with Don being he is coming from Englewood and he knows the waters pretty well for a southern boy.

Zotcha...just joking about Bergen(she is from Rivervale) and they do have some scary people up there. One of her "townsfolk" killed his family and kept them in the house or some crap like Psycho and his mom. Now Monmouth county has it's fair share of rednecks...more than Manatee county I imagine. I lived on the skirts of Monmouth and Mercer just outside of Allentown. They had farming as a class at the local school, mom sent me to private when she heard that...plus I'm a prodigy anyway.

Again...whoever wants to meet at my house, it is a nice ride to beercan. I know Frank and I will be running it along with my buddy in his 23' concept.

The Judge, my Bergen County bud has been living in Bluffton for 12 years (what they call a Damn Yankee, (Yankees go home)). I have neen here as long. Just trying to get someone to do the drive. Still have a fishing bud in Palmetto, or one of those small towns right there. Going to be close on the refurb if I go as many coats on the new interior. Still have to get off from the department. Lookin' forward to it. May even have a classic Seacraft in the area. zot.

I just fired off an e-mail to Don(in her net),at The Judges suggestion, to find the best ramp to use. Bob Kemmler Jr. and his crew is hooking up with us too, I beleive .

Judge- Damn Aussies probably use metric trailer balls!

Having been from the 'upscale' town of Lake Hiawatha-what lake... we sent our farming students to Morris County vo-tech as our school already had a fine carpentry and deck building program- not enough dirt out back to plant nuthin'!!

My prediction for the day...Frank gets tanked on someone elses beer, gets the Judges gun and blows away Pat's inflatable dog and the sheep drown swimming for cover...and if I get wet and anyone even thinks of tazering me I'm gone.

We will be there saturday but we both have stuff on Sunday so probably another day trip.

Thanks Swell and The J.

I realize now that I got posts mixed...
1) I figured if Swellmonster was in his 20 Out w/ 225 hp, and took 30+ min then...I could be in for a Lo-o-o-o-ng ride
2) but it was The Judge that said 30+ min. in his 17' M. then it should work out.

As long as the weather looks good will be there and drop at Skyway...

don't enjoy trailering any more than needed.

Will be getting a N. map this Saturday for that area to get a better "piture".

I can make it to the skyway in about 30+mins, not sure how far to the closest ramp in St pete.

Sharkbait,

From the centerspan of the Skyway, 1A, run at approx 200* towards the flashing red 16 ' "70", then 205* towards the intercoastal 16' "67" or 27-32-100 n, 82-42-100 w, and just follow the intercoastal down to the Longboat pass...

Something like that, or atleast that is what I will do....
