Lake George is an absolutely beautiful place, great fishing and boating. Was up there many years ago when my kids were young and they loved it.
Only problem were "black flies". Little bugs that actually chew on you, causing blood to flow. Nasty things, but there is a definite "season" for these things, and you want to avoid being there when they are. I 'm not sure exactly when we were there, but think it was around the end of June, beginning of July. Only lasted a few days, but still remember them after 20 or so years.
I still would highly recommend the area though. I don't think the black flies are just a Lake George phenomenon, but Adirondack area in general.

I was in Wisconsin that year and they tore us up. Haven't been back there since. The people we rented from said it was very unusual....
