Lover's Key has some great beaches on the Gulf and somewhat protected on the north side of the Key on Big Carlos pass. Also there are a few nice waterfront restaurants.
Lover's Key /Fort Myers beach has many hotels and a very nice (free) boat ramp at Lover's key. Koreshan has a campsite, they have a ramp, but it may only be for cannoe/kayaks, I will have to check if boats can be launched there. If not it, there is a boat ramp a few miles south at the end of Coconut Road - Weeks Fish Camp - ($8 launch fee). The Estero River is nice to go on, got Mound Key (indian mound) and

I was at Lover's Key last weekend talking to a nice guy Tim and his wife/girlfriend Suzie, they have a classic 13 Whaler. I told him about these forums.

I vote for May, when the weather is nice and the water is still clear (pre-rainy
season). I know Dave wants to check this area out and could not make it down last time.

David here (Spouse Lucy). We helped with the last Kice Island trip and had a blast. No-see-ums appreciated our visit but what the heck, they have to eat too. It was our first trip with the group. Nice people and good food. fast forward>>>>> Charlie hit, Port Charlotte home destroyed, computer trashed, relocated to Olga, ready to camp and cruisae. Still own the same old 1973 Montauk with the trusty 115HP Johnson. We have camped on most of the places previously mentioned (sea-kayak and Whaler) and would love to go again.

Bob you should like this area, it is close enough to trailer or go by sea and you can add it to your places that I have explored list. If you have your 13 and you hooked it up behind my 13 and we tow them up with my Revenge V-22 maybe we can win the door prize for the most Whalers in a Row Award or if the wife’s get naggy … we can put them in their own boats and race.

Count me in anyway you cut it.

Man-O-man! Your Revenge is incredible! Have you guys spent the night aboard? I don't know if you rember but Lucy and I reaslly want a boat, just like yours. We love the Montauk but yours really is a Mangrove Mansion. My BIG fantasy: anchored out, under a full moon, cold Florida night, SS charcoal grill on the fantail rail, steaks grilling, no mosquitoes (must be winter), nice glass of Merlot lovely Lucy sitting next to me and lots of "Whaler" friends anchored nearby . . . Ah yes. It would be grand.

Bob it will be nice to meet you Evan (with the FGCU Whaler), myakka and who ever else can make.

So what dates in May? My calendar is currently wide open every weekend.

I'm not much of a camper, so I will pass on that and just hang during the days.

As far as Gas...

Fish Tale Marina at the south end of Fort Myers Beach has fuel, plus there is a good place to eat lunch and dinner there, it is called the Fish house. Wife and I were there last weekend, nice time.

Lover's Key Resort has a nice place to eat, but no docks, got to anchor and wade in. We usally go there on weekdays when boat traffic/wake is at minimum, Trail marker #13 (yellow square on the map above).

Also one of our favorite dinning spots is Salty Sam's - Parot Bay, they hace good eats and gas (I think).

Does anyone need local Boat Ramps? I would suggest Lover's Key Ramp (free) at Lover's Key State Park. Just East of Blue circle #7 on the Map above.

[b]Grub Stefan, you brought this up first too but we voted and decided it wouldn't be fair and no one thinks your much of a cook anyway. I would suggest you bring your own snacks and before or early on in the day we will decide on a cruse plan to take us to a local eatery on the water for Saturday Evening. Maybe a Brunch on Sunday.

The area offers outstanding crusing grounds, with Ft. Myers Beach, Sanabel Island, and Estro Bay. Depending on others wishes I will leave this part open for discusion.
