Moved to the greater Boston Area from the SF Area 6 months ago with a Montauk owned for 15yrs. Looks like access to the bays and ocean is limited? Tried putting in at Winthrop. Low tide, no docks, had to beach boat, get wet, etc. Looking for a ramp, public or private that has lanes, docks, water for engine flush, etc. Am I expecting too much? Any help appreciated. Bill

May explain why Whalers are not made in Boston anymore...

Good luck!

There is a forum member Ryanwhaler who may know better spots. I will email him about this thread.

Hope this helps.

Hi, Bill.

Winthrop sucks, it not worth it.

The best ramp by far is presidents landing, off mystic valley parkway in Medford. While driving on mystic valley parkway, towards Everett their is a Crispy Cream on the right, along with a big parking garage near by. You want to take a right at the crispy cream, go past the parking garage to the marina in the back, you'll see a trailer lot and a ramp.

This is where I launch, although you have to deal with morons at the ramp sometimes, its a nice launch pad. The ramp is good, with a dock along side and parking is free. You don't launch into the Harbor, your in the Mystic River (fresh water) from the ramp you go left, under the railroad bridge to a set of locks, which takes you to the harbor.

Good luck, and maybe I'll see you out there.

A launch ramp with krispy kreme! Sweeet.. Nice hot donut to start the boat ride! The names of the launch ramps sound like a whaler catalog!
