Its another official Boston Whaler Owners Event, June 10-11, 2005, in Beaufort, South Carolina. Boston Whaler owners, their families and guests are invited to attend a weekend of fun, fishing and camaraderie. Bring your Whaler if you can! The event will include free giveaways, a photo opportunity with a Whaler cut in half, on-land vendors, food, drinks and your choice to participate in any number of fun events including an inshore fishing tournament,
a scavenger hunt throughout the city’s historic district (for land lubbers), or just hang out and relax with
other Whaler owners and Boston Whaler representatives.
The event will be held at the Downtown Marina located in the heart of historic Beaufort, SC. The marina is
fully equipped including a ship’s store, fuel dock, and boat ramp. Ample parking is available. Slip
reservations can be made directly by calling the marina manager, Rick Griffin, at 843/524-4422. Awards will be presented for inshore fishing categories, scavenger hunt winners and a variety of Whaler specific awards for the oldest Whaler, furthest traveled and more.

It's only a one day event so coming home on Sunday won't be so tough. Looks like Chris & I might convoy up on Friday morning from Orlando. Anyone else?

Ward, how are you? Check "I know it is early, but...", not many interested. I will be trailering over 30 minutes from the house and have ample, safe parking in my yard. Like to extend the hospitality from Mt. Dora. Your son who helped me get to shore was not named Chris, though. Let me know if I can help. Leave early Friday, return by dark and get ready for 24 hour shift at FD on Saturday. If you have GPS with Bluechip we could easily be there in about an hour and fifteen minutes, but no guarantees with afternoon storms. Let me know. zot. (Mike)

Ward was talking about me- we are going to come up from Orlando next friday a.m. Hopefully there will some more interest over the next few days. We are keeping the Dauntless in the water at the downtown marina friday and saturday nights and heading back home Sunday with a stop also to see friends in the area (near Bluffton, but still waiting for directions).

Chris, does this mean the Dauntless is convoying with Ward's Classic? Also, I guess you have registered. I don't think I'm going to. I will be spending a lot of time breaking in the new motor, and hoping my dealer has propped me somewhat close. Also have a new manual jack plate, and the final rigging will not be complete until the night before. Looking forward to seeing you there. Mike.

I'm running my 15 down the ICW from Charleston. I'll see you down there.

Don't know what time we'll be there yet, but hopefully early. Staying at the Ramada which I guess is about a mile away. Is there a boat ramp close by the event and marina so I don't have to drive so far? See everyone Friday.

Chris, not sure of the downtown area, and closest ramp. But town is small and pretty easy to figure out. The hosting dealer is not near the water so event should be at the waterfront. Finding a place to launch should not be difficult either. Send me an email if you or Ward want my cell. zot.

Sorry I won't be there, I'm getting myself and the boat ready for a trip to southwest Florida the following week. If they have this event next year, I'll be there...I live right down the road in Savannah.

To those that make it, have a great time & post your comments afterwards!

Chris, what time do you think you want to leave and what is your standard crusing speed. I would like to leave between 8 & 9 am and usually cruse about the speed limit.

Zotcha, already have room booked at downtown Best Western and want to keep additional travel to minimum so we will probably just focus on downtown. Thanks for the invite though. See ya there.

Smirk- sounds like a good time to start out. I stay about the speed limit- anything much over 68-69 mph gets me about 9mpg! I can probably save a tank each way staying under 70. I'll email you my cell number and plan on meeting somewhere near you as you are a little north of me. Does 5 1/2-6 hours sound about right to get there?

We made it back home about 9pm last night. I just wanted to thank everyone for the great time we had. Boston Whaler, Sea Isle marine and everyone involved in putting this on deserve a big thanks. Got to meet a few CW members there and all agree it was a good time. Too bad the weather did not hold a little better. We went for a ride down past Parris Island Sunday morning out in to Port Royal Sound and turned back as the wind was just howling and getting very choppy on the water. Friday night there was a get together with music and drinks and a light 'dinner' and saturday had a pretty good barbeque buffet along with more music and the awards. Smirkless and I trailered up together and met Zotcha at the marina- he was holding 2 trailer spots for us. Whalerace made it over on saturday night and we all had fun. Even got to meet trafficlawyer. I will have some pictures posted soon. We got to ride on a Montauk 170 and was very impressed with the ride vs. my Dauntless 160. I stayed off the bigger boats just to stay out of trouble and a case of 2 footitis or worse.
The only thing I would change is trying to get all the registered boats in one area of the marina- Whalers were scattered everywhere and didn't know who had a boat there or which one and would be nice to talk a little more about everyones boats but otherwise all was good.
There were quite a few boats in attendance ranging from some 15 footers up to a few big conquests and even saw a menemsha there which was the first I've ever seen.

It was a great Event!!!!!! My son took 2nd place in the Fishing tournament, met Ron Berman along with Van on the design team and provided some 'customer' insights. Ate GREAT food, met marketing folks, weather was better in Beaufort than in so fla. so all in all not bad. Lots of Whaler goodies, test drove the 32' Cuddy with twin Verados, very IMPRESSIVE!

These events are indeed something that every owner should try to attend. Now I know why I've bought FOUR Whalers!!!

Ethan and I had a great time, as did everyone I guess. Convoy up there with Chris & Michelle made the trip an easy 6.5 hours. The marina had great floating docks made necessary because of the 7 foot tidal range. Best Western across the street was perfect. Lots of oldies this time including one 1966 that won the "Oldest Whaler" award. Still not sure where that guy's whaler was or even if it was registered and actually had it at the event or if he just had a '66 back home or somewhere. Earlier in the event, Ethan pointed out that one of the registered '67 boats actually had a later hull number so we had my older son check hull numbers on the CW site. Much to my surprise, it turns out we have a '66, not a '68 as we thought and the '67 was actually a '68. So we thought we had it won since no other contenders appeared to be present. There seemed to be a lack of determination on how to resolve the matter when the surprise '66 contender raised his hand. Since the prize was a print I had already won last year, I let him have it but did not conclude until later that his boat was not even there. Actually, the way it was stated was "who has a 1966 Whaler?", not "who has a registered 1966 Whaler?". As Ethan says, "let it go Dad". Good to see Ace and Joy again since they missed the last event. Think we have Ace and some others talked into the Bimini event. Especially enjoyed talking Whalers with Jack who had just purchased a 1971 Sakonnet and had lots of pictures to share.
