Well, there's a Waterfire slated for Sat night, lighting is scheduled for 7:15 PM. That's a must. Whole town turns out. Better make dinner or italian gondola reservations now.– |

Water fire is a must see, great time. if you don't get that reservation on the gondola, don't worry as you can not run out of good resturaunts in Prov.Dan |

If you don't have a boat, a good way to get on the water in Providence is the Newport high-speed ferry. You'll get to see much of the Narragansett Bay and Newport and its harbor. http://www.nefastferry.com/pnfastferry/index.htmlSorry, can't fish off the side! |

We went and saw Waterfire. It was a magnificent event. The firepits blazing in the river at night, with the Gondolas pushing through the water, with piped in theater quality opera music echoing throughout the canals. I heard it 14 stories up in the Biltmore. Excellent!! Then we went to Newport. What a boaters paradise! Tremendous scenery, lots of lighhouses and a few whalers. Neat ishing/shopping wharfs.. Went to rent a montauk for a few hours, but I was heasetant cause it had an old Johnson, I felt "iffy" about it and low and behold, it broke down the night before we were gunna rent it. Boston was great! $10 main lobbies North end was great, freedom trail, outdoor Italian food, and only one whaler on the river, kinda near old Ironside. Great time was had!!Pat |

I grew up in Rhode Island. It does my heart good to hear that Providence has grown like it has. I went back for the first time in twenty years in August 2004. When I lived in RI, Providence was to be avoided and was quite frankly, a shit-hole. Have fun, guys. I hope to make it back next year with my wife. Dave |
