My husband and I have reservations to stay at the Bonefish Resort beginning September 8, 2005. His sister is in Marathon this week and stopped by to check out the place for us and she called me and left message for me to call her because the place is "really bad." I returned her call and asked her what was wrong with it and she said it smelled horrible and that there was no beach only a swimming pool and that parking was not great. We were already aware that there was not a beach area but we are just looking for a clean, quiet place to hang out for a few days which is not far from area attractions. I called the Bonefish and spoke with Kelly (frontdesk) and she said the odor was caused by the seagrass that accumulates on the shore and that is a sulphur smell in the air but that it does not penetrate into the units.

Has anyone stayed there recently who can tell me if the odor is unbearable? We have plans to stay there 5 nights and as of this date cannot cancel (30 day cancellation policy?

We were down in Marathon in late February. There was a slight sulphur like odor, said to come from the decaying sea grass. It was not unbearable at all, but then I guess it depends on the sensitivity of your sniffer.

Make sure you hit the Stuffed Pig for a great breakfast to start the day. It's at MM 49.
