Where is Janis, Pat, Smitty, Bill C, Stefan, Ward, Chris & Michelle, Don, etc? If we gonna get a KEG, we need a big friggin turnout! I think our record is 20+ boats and so far we have 6 or 7.

Beercan is just inside Longboat pass which is an inlet between Longboat key and Anna Maria Island. Roughly in between St Pete and Sarasota.

Its on the outside of the bridge, south side of the pass. Looks like a sandbar...cuz it is.
The Judge posted 08-31-2005 03:55 PM ET (US)     Profile for The Judge  Send Email to The Judge
Actually now it has grown so big parts of it are under the bridge. They also made the onlet slow speed no wake so anywhere you park now is calm. Not to be confused with Jewfish key which is an island and sanbar just to the east of the bridge.
an86carrera posted 09-01-2005 10:16 AM ET (US)     Profile for an86carrera  Send Email to an86carrera
Why do they always use the manatee guise for places that they want you slow down now? Also then, why do manatees only hang out near rich people’s homes? That no wake zone showed up overnight without proper signage and police there that morning giving out tickets. I had to pull over an officer to find out where the zone started and stopped. For all’s interest he said drawn a line between the sign at the seawall on the end of Anna Maria to the tip of jewfish key. There is now a sign there also in about three feet of water.

I live very near there so I’ll see you all then. I’ll be in my beater/flats fishing ’67 13’ if it’s not too choppy, otherwise the Proline 220 Sport. If anybody needs dockage I live on the water off Palma Sola Bay.

I'm in, but beer can again?-3-4x now- how about new scenery-shell key, fort dosoto etc....- majority rules, so I'll be happy wherever-just a thought.....
The Judge posted 09-13-2005 02:24 PM ET (US)     Profile for The Judge  Send Email to The Judge
I heard shell key is so shallow now that we may have problems there. The problem with Ft Desoto and shell are the alcohol rules. You have to stand in the water to drink. Gonna be a problem with a keg. With 20 boats, cops will be on us like flies.

We'll stick with Beercan this time being Frank and such have family here. Let's set one up for late winter in Homasassa or Tarpon springs, etc....fair?

Are there any other locations near beer can? It is a nice view N/NW but east view of bridge and cars cars wizzing by 100 feet away??

Is it possible to do a little island hopping/site seeing in that area?

Beer can is very nice on the west side but must have east wind and no swell. Has any body been on Gilligan's Island..? name? located northeast anna maria sound?

I have never been ashore there so I'm not sure about it's bug population. It is accesable and looks nice lots of trees and small beach.

Gilligan's is VERY shallow and channel is right there so boats get bounced around. They just made Longboat pass slow speed no wake so it is real protected now.

As much as I would like to hang with all of you crazy people it is impossible to make it this time no matter how much you try to entice me with the ww and alike. I have been working on my new house for the past few months and I am still in the process. The whaler is sitting on the davits in the back yard and I even have my own private boat ramp to run anywhere. I’m only minutes to the Gulf and still no time at this point to use any of it. But once the pool, bar, game room, waterfall and landscaping is in it will be party time. I will host a party up here.

There are a couple of ramps on Anna Maria Island and some real nice beach hotels. None of them that I know of have dockage (I could be totally wrong) but again, you are welcome to tie up behind my house. I live two miles from the beach off Palma Sola Bay.

There are some very good resturants on the water. One has very good outdoor music and food. We could start Friday nite.

Let me know if I can help any of the travelers.

Judge, email me with the info on that "cheap" shutter guy around Ellenton. I've got a female friend with a house in Ellenton who is still using plywood. (her house is maybe 30 months old, and obviously the county wasn't specifying that every house come with impact glass or shutters/panels when it was built). Palm Beach County requires impact glass or panels/shutters, and I LOVE my accordions.

Also curious whether your new bulkhead is concrete, aluminum, composite, or wood?

And No, I'm not in for the keg trip, although I do keep track of what you guys are planning.

Mike, I appreciate the invitation. However, I suspect my better half would get somewhat jealous if I left her home two weekends in a row. I took some grief last weekend for going out in the Sport without her. (Fortunately, my dad smoothed that over by taking my wife and I for a ride in his Edgewater later that day).

Smirkless, how are ya? Just got back from Antique and Classic Boat Society meet in Charlotte Sept. 8,9,10,11 including full tour of Dale Earnhart Inc.. Awesome! JS-04 is running Hot with new 350. Been stalking from Jersey while on vacation thinking I'd like to do Tampa with the Whaler-only 8 hours since you saw her in Beaufort! I know...I know. N E Way, if I can make it I'll probably be alone since my brother did Beaufort, Charlotte and a week on the Cape this summer with me. Gotta a killer place in Long Boat Key I will be using if I make it. Forgot my last day of unscheduled vacation is the 15th, and now find out may be building another Jersey Skiff that weekend. I'll let you know. Say hello to Ethan for me and Tom.

P.S. Biggs, got room for a 15 for a few days? Don't think there's space in Long Boat.?. Mike.

Plenty of room for your ride....especially the JS:)

Where2...that was a joke....Don sells storm shutters. Bulkhead and dock are wood. Cement is no longer allowed here and fiberglass is double the cost.

Talked with Janis and the T's me team is in as well.

Who else? Not sure if we have enough boats for a keg, then again it is Ward's B-Day ;)

BigS unfortunately I'm not a definate yet. However looks like my presence is not required for the laying up of the fourth hull out of the JS mold! Will let you know.

Still trying to get used to being single. Haven't advised the site yet but had to put Zotcha down August 25, and just haven't been able to get it right yet.

Hoping to return to Bradenton for this one. OK if I let some fellow ClassicSeacrafters in on the festivities? Oh and the JS is running strong, but trying to keep her from salt as much as I can. You have to check out www.speedskiffs.com. Renamed, renumbered and quick. Go to skiff outings and check out Charlotte. Dale Earnhart Inc. was awesome. "Cafeteria" was literally a four star restaurant. Seriously wild. Mike.

SeaCrafts are always welcome and I usually post an invite on classicseacraft.com. My friend has both a Whaler & a 23 SC so we invite both. Sometimes we get 1 or 2 seacrafts. My friend Lindsey Pirie used to build JS's back in Jersey. He had the old Binder molds. I almost bought one years ago but the idea of me owning an inboard was just stupid the way I dredged Barnegat bay:)

Guys, love to see the interest in the Skiffs! Plan now for Mt. Dora this March! All kinds of Crap to see! Smirkless pulled me to the dock last year. BTW, run this weekend to see if skiffers like Tremble Park for the skiffs this year (where I met his son Ethan). Looks like I will not make this or Long Boat. Spent all day building stringers and core for new skiff to be laid up Friday morning (about 5 a.m.). Fourth out of the mold and first I would not be a part of. Building for a friend who is replacing his late 70's Bender. Oh, and with more H.P..

I want to come to Bradenton so bad! Buddy in Ellenton or Palmetto still trying to become a snook guide, and he is AWESOME! Middletown, NJ originally, "but you would never know it, of course." Laid back, and focused. Haven't been back since Manhattan Bagel changed hands 7 or 8 years ago. Spent first month there opening it with another buddy, somewheres around 1996.

If I can't meet you guys this weekend, HAVE A BALL!!! I will make it with the refurbed 1982 15 one of these times for sure. If you want to see twenty or so Jersey Speed Skiffs, make the trip to Mt. Dora in March. Plenty of stuff for a day trip with the family, launch Whalers, and just hang. Fresh water is really cool for a change.

Sorry it doesn't look like I'll make it but don't count me out in the future. Definately B4 I lose access to the condo! Be safe and have 4 for me. Mike.

Thanks to THe Judge for a great afternoon and plenty of Whaler talk. Thought I had seen all of the Classic Configurations, but Nick's was my first Factory Newtauk.
We arrived a little late as we launched in St. Pete and made the Tampa Bay crossing which is more intimidating on the water than looking from the SkyWay Bridge. With a Northeast wind it gets a little snotty around the ship channel but nothing the Montauk and Jay's 15' Alert couldnt handle.
When we found Beercan, Nick had a good headstart on the beer and Len had already gone home to get his big water boat. To those in the Tampa area, Beercan is similiar but smaller than 3 Rooker but the scenery was very impressive and the park rangers were not giving tickets to the T-Backers. Thanks again to Nick and Len for a great afternoon. Bill and Jay

While 4 boats is not a spectacular showing...the weather was. Got there about noon and Len and his wife showed up about 12:30 in his very well maintained 67 13'. They split about 3pm. I was just finishing my beer about 3:15 when Bill called and informed me they were about 200 yards away. Len returned in his 22 Pro-Line. We shot the bull till about 5:15 or so and we all headed home. My face is a tad on the red shade but all is well after a beautifull day on the water.

Glad I did not get a keg!

Dude, don't lose the faith! Wished I was there all weekend! A blast will be had by all, just wait! Hold on for Wilma, best of luck to all. There will be another Beer Can, just wait! Had the 15 out today with my brother catchin' short trout and had a rip! Have to admit, I did not like the cast net on top of my casting platform but it's replacable. Everything else is O.K. Mike. Stay Safe.

We won't miss the next one. Got a new truck and had to do paperwork and stuff, so sorry we missed.
Just got a 2005 Ram Quad Cab Hemi- no problem towing the Whaler anywhere now!
