We really oughta consider a NC rendevuos. Simmons Sea Skiff guys get together at Southport. Marina there seems to have slips, etc. I've attended and it was great. Obviously there are other excellent locations. Remember what Jesus said about size of gathering, "Wherever n are gathered in my name ......" Even two or three boats are enough for a start.

Seems to me getting the word out is the biggest problem. Despite Jim's super organization of the board I suspect that most never look at this section, cetainly I don't.
The only reson that I'm posting here is that Jim will move post over here anyway if I put it in REPAIRS where it would get better viewing

So, can we start with email addresses of those who might have even remote interest. Seems reasonable to add someone who might be interested but is not a regular on CW. Should even add people who have boats but do not frequent CW. As strange as that may seem I know some in that category. The keeper of the list could do a distribution of the type that lets addresses opt out.

Ideas/suggestions/interest?

Hey, I am very interested. I am also interested in the fact that you have a simmons sea skiff :P I have a break in school october 20th - 23rd and I will be down at our place on Topsail Island.

Well I am definiatly intereted. I tried one some time ago but I guess maybe we don't have that many folks in NC as they do in Florida or other places. Or we are too busy working, fishing etc.
I am in Wilmington, so Topsail or Southport would be easy for me. I think there may be some other good spots we could get together as well.
As long as I can get this overheat problem sorted out I am game for almost anything, anywhere.

It doesnt really matter to me how large the showing is. If I am on the coast I am pretty much a happy camper regardless. My brother and my father might be interested in attending depending on the location. December would be good for me as well as late October, although I dont know how many others feel about winter boating. I remember this past winter was really warm and mild late December/early January. Most people have some time off then and theres usually a break in kids sports as well.

How about an overnight trip where we go by water from point A to point B, and we get a bunch of hotel rooms on the water, then the next day we boat back to the trailers at point A?

I am working the weekend of 11-05-05, the following weekend I am off. I personally like the Morehead/Cape Lookout area, even though I am in Wilmington. I would gladly trailer the boat up there for a meet. The trout maybe in full force by then too.
grandpas68 posted 10-04-2005 02:29 PM ET (US)     Profile for grandpas68  Send Email to grandpas68
That sounds fine, I think someone needs to make the executive decision here for the date and a location and let everyone else plan around that as bad as it sounds. Nov 5th is my 21st birthday so I know I will be down on the coast then, I am not sure about the next weekend but that is ok. I can catch up with yall some other time. I think once the first meet gets planned and everyone has a good time and meets each other it will be easier to plan future events.

I happen to come across your postings and see that you are a boat club. I assume this is just for Boston Whalers. My husband and I are members of the Baton Rouge Boat club, in Baton Rouge, LA and we go boating a lot over on the Biloxi Gulf Coast, Orange Beach, Alabama etc. Maybe our club could meet with you all sometime. Of course the hurricanes have spoiled our plans for pretty much of the rest of the year. But sounds like ya'll have a good time.
Gene in NC posted 10-04-2005 11:06 PM ET (US)     Profile for Gene in NC  Send Email to Gene in NC
Ok, here's a lead proposal. Time is Sunday, 10/23, 12:00pm to 3:00pm. Location Wrightsville on back side of Masonboro just South or West or whatever it is of the inlet. Popular spot that gives good access to the ocean and enough beach for several boats. Tide will be high at 12:52pm so inside fishing will be pretty much dead.

Schedule accomodates church, lunch at the Dockside, picnic lunch, etc., but may put pressure on parking at the Wildlife Ramp. Get the boat in the water early or see backup below.

Backup is to launch at Wildlife and then park other location (need help from locals) or launch at Johnson Marina (directions to follow) which is opposite N end of Figure Eight.

Early dates in October better for families so kids, if there are any, can hit the beach. 10/16 is preferable but Andrew is available on the 23rd and with the lack of anyone stepping forward, so far, to lead/support this event, we need his enthusiasm.

Can someone provide a porta potty and rig a privacy screen for the ladies, or on the other hand, facilities at the Dockside are only about 20 minutes away.

PLEASE INDICATE your satisfaction with this proposal or offer your suggestion for something better.

David, your idea for an overnight cruise sounds very interesting. Next Spring might provide plenty of lead time to get rigs ready for longish runs and crews to get their schedules arranged.

Our only experience was round trip from Elizabeth City to Norfolk/Portsmouth via Coinjock with return via Dismal Swamp Canal. Three day weekend provides oppty to cruise up to Jamestown, a very nice run and a once in a lifetime oppty to ski the legs of that skiier who never gets enough.

chumboy posted 10-05-2005 05:15 PM ET (US)     Profile for chumboy
I think I could do that. Back side of Masonboro sounds good to me. This will give me some incentive to get the boat finished up and in the water before cold weather.

Also, If anyone wants to extend the festivities a bit, I was thinking the other day its about time for a good shrimp boil. I would be willing to host at my place. I am at marker 143 on the waterway, about halfway between Masonboro and Carolina Beach Inlets. I don't have enough dockage but for a couple of boats, but have plenty of parking space for boats and trailers if anyone wants to head my way and boil up some shrimp and share a few cold ones. Maybe plan on eating about 6:00 or so. I have not run any of this by the admiral yet, I may have other plans that I am not aware of yet, you understand if you are married. So, mark it tentative at this point, but let me know if there is any interest.
Dave

I guess this really means I need to get this boat finished next weekend. I might be riding around that weekend sans the RPS. I am looking forward to this however. Gene, thank you for putting that together and it sounds fine to me. So far for a head count it looks like we have:

Gene in NC
TarBaby
Chumboy
Grandpas68

and

Tentatives
Bullet- are you in for this year or the next event?
DillionBW?
Boxers?
HappyJim?
David Jenkins?

I believe there are a few others in the area that I have seen from time to time although I do not have any information on them. If someone has their contact information perhaps send it to myself or Gene? I think the original idea of setting up a mailing list was a good one. I can type up one this weekend and send out an email if no one else is interested in it. Also if you would like to attend but do now wish to recieve group emails, now would probably be a good time to mention it.

Sound ok?

Are you going to set a alternate date in case of weather? I will find out more in the next week if I am able to take off. If not, I will try to get with you guys on the next one. I work every other weekend, so, I should be able to get to go on one of them.

If the event goes off well maybe it could be repeated in the future at the same location. Best regards for a nice rendezvous.

chumboy, we are considering a resched from 23rd to 16th but only if that would bring more boats. Couple of guys can make 16th but not 23rd.

Is the 16th equally as good for you? Were you serious about the low country boil?

Couldn't find an email addr for you so we'll have to rely on the CW post.
--------------

OK, time is short and I didn't do a great job with the original proposal
because I didn't allow for alternative date and underestimated response
time. Posting on CW is not timely. Email is close to ch 16..

Have heard from every one, some by follow up email and have this revised
suggestion. Let's see how we can do for the 16th. Time is short but if we
can pick up two more boats that would be worthwhile. If number for 16th is
not => 23rd we will stay with the latter.

whalercop sounds better for the 16th and David Jenkins can make it. I would
like for everyone to hear from David re cruising. I have a little positive
experience with that too,and can give the big lie about my rescheduled,
about 20 times, Morehead to Key West run. A spring trip maybe.

Availability as I undestand it now: Please respond this w/e if at all
possible. Cut off date for decision on the 16th is probably Monday night.

David, sorry that we can't handle 10/16. Cruise in Spring might go well with enough lead time. Better to have pods of five or so boats on anyway. Will you take lead on planning for cruise.

I hate to be the straggler but is it possible I could still get a ferry over to Masonboro? I am not going to even get a chance to start on the whaler till thursday and I feel a little nervous about driving it down to Masonboro after its been dry docked for this past year. Id like to keep it around where I can swim it home till I am confident I have it all right.

Andrew, I will tow you to masonboro and back if I have to. I could think of no better time to make sure everything is working right, when I have friends around to help if I need it. Maybe Wilma will stay off-shore enough and we will get some good surf. It will probably be a northeaster anyway. Last Sunday was beautiful. Figures, always a fly in the ointment. I will be at Cape Lookout the weekend of Nov. 4,5,6, hopefully, the weather will cooperate then. Gene, you don't have a e34 do you?

Talked to my brother this afternoon. He has a place on the Alifia River at Riverview, FL., SE Tampa Bay, two miles up river, and 1/4 mi from US301. His house is at twelve foot elevation, but water rising in low areas between his place and US301 blocks roads as happened last year.

If Wilma comes his way he won't know until some time in the night Friday. Already too late to leave now. I75 from Tampa N and I95 N will be already choked with traffic from farther South.

Best he can do is to throw a load in a 12 foot enclosed trailer and head for higher ground about twenty miles north near Brandon. He'll throw up the ply on the windows but that's it.

So, compared to that, odds seem pretty good for our event.

whalercop posted 10-20-2005 09:50 AM ET (US)     Profile for whalercop  Send Email to whalercop
Yeah, I was a little premature with the statement, but, at the time, they were saying off us sun. afternoon. That sucks about your brothers place. Florida has been gettting it pretty bad the past few years. I thought a long time ago that might be you on the other boards, but dismissed it thinking it would be too much of a coincidence. I will email you to talk cars.

Whaler cop, my main concern is getting the console mounted down at the moment and whether I have actually got the controls hooked up correctly. Our motor is one built out of spare parts so the shift linkage is off who knows what(Im thinking 1973 now), I think the block is a '77 model, I dont know what the motor leg is from. It makes working on it interesting. I think what I may try to do is trailer it to Wilmington or Wrightsville an then just run it over to masonboro with the kicker if all else fails. It would be a lot less stressfull for me and cheaper as well. Is there anyone else that is going to be launching from Wilmington? I have no idea where the closest ramp is. I have never really boated in that area. If anyone is interested in meeting up before hand at the ramp, please shoot me an email at andrewsj@email.unc.edu. I can find a place to check my email but I will not have time to check this site before sunday. I hope to see everyone on sunday, im wishing for good weather an operatable boats for us all.

Sunday, 10/23 12:00 TO 13:00+ on Back of Masonboro just S of the inlet.

I'll take committe boat responsibility. Call ch 16 for "Sweet Sarah". Cell 919 818 0650 or 919 268 0781.

Lanch, for out of towners, Wildlife ramp, just over the drawbridge to Wrightsville. If no space, backup is Johson Marine, 686 7565, 2029 Turner Nursey Rd., opposite N end of Figure Eight. Will include Mapquest directions in email.

Suggestion, bring something to show and tell or sell.

I will bring my Frogg Toggs rain gear,

Chemicals and tools for fighting and controlling corrosion in electrical and electronic connectors. Can give a short, 5 to 10 minute, summary of tips from German car rendevous at "local" factory. Owners of German cars might do well to pay close attention.

I will not be fishing Sunday. My fishing partner broke his leg last Saturday. However, temp drop may be start of flounder migration from sounds to ocean.

See you there.

I will do my best to spread the word for our next NC Rendevous. Will take pic's next time.....

On an even better note, my return trip was NOT cursed with any overheat issues. She ran very well, although I could not do extensive runs due to being very low on fuel.

Stopped by the older Outrage that I saw for sale, took some pic's if anyone is interested.
1974 19 1/2 ft, Twin 1997 85hp Suzuki's, bottom painted.
1997 Alluminum Magic loader trailer.

I enjoyed the outing as well, cudos to Gene for setting it up. I got a chance to run the boat and run my kicker for a little while, I just put on a charging kit Saturday. Everything went well. Dillon, glad to hear you had no more problems with the overheating issue. I am also glad the bad weather held off until today. My wife and I enjoyed meeting everyone and we hope to see everybody and more in the future. Thanks again to everybody, Burt Womble
