For those of you that fell in love with Isle Roayale this summer, here is your chance!

This is kind of random, but check out the GSA auction site under boats for sale and Michigan. Not sure what it means that they are selling the fuel barge - my guess is they are changing over to a double hulled model, because even if they don't have gas available for sale, the park service is still going to need it for their operations.

That has been up for a while. I can only imagine the sludge in this thing...

Gee, $100 for 50,000 gallon capacity. That's cheaper than buying a new Pate tank!

David -
Our conversations with rangers this summer seemed to indicate that they already have a double-hulled fuel barge. The expense of operating this barge is passed along on a per gallon basis to those purchasing fuel at the island; thereby explaining, at least in part, the price of fuel on the island.

They didn't seem to think that the future sale of fuel on the island was in immediate danger. Given the condition of many of the docks on the island, I think they're continuing plans to cater to boaters on the island for a few more years yet.

(besides, those speeding tickets are too lucrative!)

Of course, you're right - their own fleet of boats probably require quite a bit of fuel every year on their own...

For a moment, I was hoping that this announcement was for the 70's Bertram 26' Moppie they have up there......

I would imagine there's many a boat-savvy bureaucrat in the Park Service waiting for that one...
