Hi folks,

Would someone like to step up to host/organize a 2006 Nor Cal Whaler Rendezvous?

I have conflicts now that preclude my doing it this year. I am not able to host a rendezvous this year.

There are two choices:
- Not do one in in 2006
- Or have someone else volunteer (other than myself)

Here's how you do it, if you are interested in hosting:
- Survey folks to see what dates would work best for most people and a place to which most people would come
- Check locations to determine availability
- Pick a date that works well for you and for most people
- Make reservations
- Tell everyone (I have a mailing list from past years)
- Cross your fingers that people will come
- Do a modicum of planning and be sure to bring plenty of charcoal and charcoal starter
- Show up and have a great time

From past experience, Snug Harbor has proven to be a very nice location. One year we did one in the Bay proper, with a rendezvous at Angel Island, and the weather was poor and we did not get many people showing up. The first year we did this rendezvous we did it at B&W Resort in the Delta; rental rate was low, but so was the ambience. We checked this year at B&W on the weekends I was thinking about and their better units are already booked.

Doing a one-day-only rendezvous could work in the right location.

From the previous "Where's Jim Hooper" thread, Caddis indicated a willingness to help. Would you be willing to lead the effort? Or Ratherwhalering? He (she) who says "yes" first gets to pick the location.

Dates? While I was first thinking of May 12 to 14, that's Mother's Day weekend, which is probably not a good choice except for those families who have Mom's who love whalering. The second choice I was mulling over is May 19 to 21 (Andy couldn't attend then). But if you step up to make something happen, you can pick your own date.

I'm willing to help from a distance but won't be able to attend.

Sorry to hear that Jim. Your company was enjoyed and the planning was fantastic. It was apparent you put a lot of work and planning into the event. It won't be the same without you leading our fleet.

17 Bodega,

Thanks for your kind words.

Well, this year I'm in a transition, now self-employed after many, many years of working for a big company. And I'm working to make some things happen for myself, and this spring I have a number of things going on to do that, and one of them falls on that weekend that we did the Rendezvous in the past. So, this spring is not going to work for me this year.

Thanks again!

Jim

No takers on the organization? If folks want to email me with their preference (12th or 19th of May), I'd consider working on this if there are enough folks interested in attending.

Paul,

Excellent!

From past experience, picking the date works best if you just pick one and go with it. It will always be that the date works well for some but not so well for others.

And I'm ready to help from a distance. You have my phone number.

The 19th would be a better date for me if it goes that way. Thanks for your consideration. High Sierra

Keep in mind that Sunday the 21st is Mother's Day. That
doesn't impact me, but it will impact some.

Chuck,

Mother's Day is May 14th.

I'm checking with Snug Harbor to see if which weekend will have the most rooms/space available. I will post here when I have an answer.

We'll be inviting Arnold this year so he can personally inspect the levees.

Paul, If you like, I will organize the Saturday morning meet and greet, captain's meeting, lunch, and afternoon cruise, if you can take the reins with Snug Harbor and the rest of the weekend. I'll be attending all day Saturday, but won't be spending the night. If we can lock a date down, I'll begin preparations and coordinate with you.

Thanks for everything, Hoop. We'll miss you at this year's rendezvous, that's for sure. Be sure and tell Paul how you got the Outboard Motor Shop to bounce for lunch and those nifty BW hats last year.

Paul, thanks for stepping into the breach. Rob has already twisted my aging arm out of its socket organizing me to help out, so I'm yours to command. I too will probably only be staying for the day on Saturday, but would be willing to help with the prep work in some way over the next couple of months if needed.

For you NorCal folks who might be interested in attending but for whatever reason don't feel like bringing your boats...no prob. There are always warmly-welcomed hitchhikers, and it's almost more fun to catch rides in various Whalers during your visit, so come on along, boat or not (and this means you, Sheila, if you can make it up here from the smoggy Southland).

That's great. Thanks for the help. I'll be calling Snug today with the 19th as the target date, as the Mother's Day weekend causes more conflicts. We'll see what they have to offer.
