Has anyone ever planned a gathering on Lake Lanier. I have been using my whalers on the lake the past 5 years and do not remember any. Anyone interested in one.

Would love to see a get together on Lanier. Have not been on the lake much...Just busy and working on the boat when I get a chance. Going to finish setting up all the bateries and the Stealth Charging System tomorrow. I installed the new Lenco Troll N Tabs a few weeks ago. See you on the lake

I did Allatoona today with my 15' sport. If you want to raise Lanier folks go to the Hull Truth.

Might be a small gathering with just you and I. That's OK as long as the beer is cold.

Hey Guys,
I am in as long as I am free the weekend that you schedule this. I started the thread on the waccamaw river SC trip and once a few people chimed in it really started rolling.
I will be happy to drive down from Charlotte and I even have a working prop installation now!

Hi Guys,

Count me in for a small rendezvous on Lanier. I plan on getting out on Lanier as much as possible this year, Hartwell too. I'll keep checking the board for updates.

Garey- Good to hear from you! I've been out every Friday I can for a while now! Doing better on the fishing too! I thought I'd start a new post for a Lanier gathering soon, I think the best time would be in the fall when things settle down on the lake and temps cool off. Y'all have any suggestions on a date?-k

I am up for a Lake Lanier rendezvous. The Waccamaw River trip was a blast.

I suggest we meet the weekend of August 5 and 6, 2006.

I like the idea of getting a room at Lake Lanier Islands and Resorts on Saturday night August 5. I believe you can tie your boat up at the dock overnight. My daughter (8) is dying to go back to the waterpark, however that is an all day event and no boats are permited in this area.

Fayette county schools start August 8 so it will probably be crowded.

I was with GAwhale at the waccamaw trip and it really was a great trip. I would LOVE to attend in August and I hope my wife can join me. I am happy to help organize this and I did learn a few things from the past weekend trip....who is running "point" on this one....minitauk?

Thanks for the vote of confidence Skip! I was thinking more along the lines of September or October- when the weather and the lake traffic cool down! August can be miserable with the heat and afternoon T-storms! Anyone have a problem with doing this Rendezvous in September or October? Let's nail down a date and then I'll start a new thread with more specifics. I am relatively new to Lanier and am only familiar with the very south end of the Lake so I'll need help with hotels, points of interest, etc...(Jmorgan, GAwhaler, Gary- you guys listening????) don't know much about the lake past the Lanier Islands bridge. I guess in the meantime I'll have to do some exploring! How about the end of September? 23rd + 24th? -k

Hi this is WhalerJoy otherwise known as WhalerAce'sWife. We had a great time at Georgetown this weekend and met some real nice people. Ace and I would love to get in on the Lake Lanier trip. I love that part of the state. We will be going to the whaler owner's event in Beaufort on Sept 8th & 9th. So, if the Lanier trip is another week-end then we will shoot for Lanier.

Just something to keep in mind is that the end of September is prime "Leaf-peeping" season, so the sooner dates can be firmed up the better chance you will have of getting good reservations at reasonable rates.

September 23 and 24 works for me. Minitauk is correct about the heat and traffic.

I called Lake Lanier Island Resort at 770-945-8787.
Rooms are $169 per night through November 1, then the rate drops to $129. The girl with whom I spoke believed boat launching and docking were included in this price.

I will call during business hours to see whether we can get a group rate.

I have made the trip up Lake Lanier to Gainsville to view the site of the 1996 Summer Olympic Rowing event. It was a two hour trip as I recall. It would be a fun day trip for the group (round trip).

The 23rd & 24th of September is good for me. I do not think it will be a two-hour trip to Gainsville from the south end. I fish the upper lake all the time. Very nice ride though.

I'll try to come down for this. Sounds like fun.

The end of Sept. sounds good to me. That's a great time of year to be out on the lake. The water is still great and traffic is down. We call the channel the washing machine in the summer. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help out. It would be great to see some other Whalers out there.

This is the proposal sent to me by Lake Lanier Islands Resort.

In a nutshell by booking at least five rooms the price drops down to $159.

How many people other than me are interested in booking a room for Saturday night September 23?

Sorry about the link in the above post. It does not work.

I think $159 per night is kind of high but I won't be getting the room. You are paying a premium for being in the resort. You can get cheaper rooms near by but you won't be in the resort with the beautiful views of the lake.

But it looks like there is growing interest in the gathering. Maybe the local BW dealer, Bolling Bridge Marine will want to join in the fun and donate some freebees! I can handle that and contacting Boston Whaler to see if they want to send something.

If island camping is an option somewhere, I'd be VERY interested in that. I love to camp from my boat!

There are several campgrounds on the lake. In fact there is a nice one right inside the Resort where the hotel is. I caught my largest striped bass ever right off the point inside that campground. The campers all came out of their tents to watch me fight it for almost 40 minutes. Ended up being a 39 lber. Enough fish stories, the answer is yes, there are some great campgrounds.

I'll go ahead and start a new thread tomorrow for a Lake Lanier Rendezvous September 23rd and 24th, unless I read otherwise! Sounds like a lot of fun! Any chance we can get some of y'all from "the Great White North" to make the trek? Jimh? How about East Coasters? Left Coasties? I expect the Newly formed Gulf Coast Whalers to have a strong showing! -k
