Hi SF Bay area folks, Sunday, April 30, 2006 is "Opening day" on the bay. Myself and several forum members will be having our boats blessed in Racoon Straights (Priest on a USCG boat blesses your ship and crew as you pass by in procession) at 11:00 a.m., then heading off to the docks at Sam's Anchor Cafe in Tiburon for an afternoon of sin. If you're in the area, drop by for a cold "soda" and some whaler chat. Docking is a nightmare, but look for a pod of whalers rafted together. No need to RSVP, just show up and introduce yourselves.

Count me in .... will launch off Oyster Point. Will most likely a few more whalers with me. How do we know each one's boat? Tie a blue rope or something on the bow? Bernie |

Just look for the nicest Montauk you have ever seen, and a couple of really rough, dirty OR-18s ;-) |

Hmmm. I wasn't planning on splashing the Conquest until Mother's Day weekend since I have a bit of gel coat work, polishing, and decal repair to do in preparation for the NorCal Rendezvous. This is tempting. If I can get my work in this weekend, you'll see me there as I need all the blessings I can get. |

I'll try to be there, Rob, if the Bodega Bay inshore salmon ain't biting. I'll be sure to raft my 'dirty, rough' OR 18 right next to your gorgeous E-TEC'd Montauk, sans fenders of course so some of those good looks can literally rub off onto 'Cetaceous' ;-)Tony |

Hey great, I'm looking forward to seeing you guys! We are planning on grabbing some dock space Saturday night, on the western finger, closest to the beach. |

Won't make it ... I got a call this week a spot at Squaw so we are heading back to the snow. This is more likely the last ski/snowboard trip. But we will be fishing off Dux weekend of May 6-7, we will wet run the 22 OR and get it tuned up for the tuna run. |

From what I've heard, on "opening day" Sam's is a real nightmare...so many drunk people stacked in there that you can't even walk around. You guys really gonna meet up there? I don't know how your gonna find docking space, even if you tie up together.I'm pretty set on going out on the boat sunday, and will cruise around there but that many people in close proximity (especially drunk) can get me irritable. |

Maybe we can meet up at Angel Island or someplace else that might have more docking space prior to Sams to take some photos and check out each others boats...but if there aren't going to be too many people, then forget it. Tony, if you are still planning to go, I'd love to get a ride on your Outrage and see the performance of the 115 in person! |

Will be glad to see you all fishing at the Dux most likely Sat May 6 or Sun May 7. We have to run this 22 OR and see how it feels for the coming tuna trips. Will have a definite day as time comes nearer. |

You got it, littleblue, if I make it down there (which is about fifty-fifty as of now, 6:15 Saturday night). It was howling 25+ constant by mid-afternoon today out of Bodega Bay, and the salmon fishing was slow for most boats. I deckhanded for Rick Powers on "New Sea Angler" and we scratched out 11 fish for 16 fishermen (half of whom didn't fish as much as feed them, if you get my drift). I'm still thinking about heading out tomorrow to try for myself in my 'new' Revenge, "Strike3", since my partners can't seem to be able to chase the skunk off the boat yet this season. It all depends on the weather report tomorrow early.Whether I'm down there or not, how about agreeing on a VHF channel so we/you can all hook up easily in the Bay. It doesn't sound like the madhouse at Sam's will be a whole lot of fun. I'm used to using 77 and 9 up in BB, but I'll defer to you S.F. Bay types to designate a channel for all of us...Rob? Might I suggest that we call one another beginning with 'continuousWave' and then our name or handle. Probably see you guys there...if not, have a great time. Tony |

I just checked the Bodega weather buoy...29.1 kts gusting to 33, with 10.5 ft swells with an 8 second dominant period, and a 6.1 sec (!) average interval. Glad I didn't spend the day out there in my OR 18, and if it's gonna be like this tomorrow, I'll see you in the Bay for sure. Yeah, it was a little bouncy even in a 55 ft boat ;-)Tony |

Yikes...at 2:50 this afternoon it was 29 constant gusting to 36.9 (and that's knots) outside at Bodega Bay, with only 5.9 second average intervals between those 10.5 ft swells. No wonder I kept muttering to myself, glad I'm not in my little skiff. Now I'm thinkin' that absolutely for sure I'll see you guys tomorrow, unless the S.F. Bay is kicking up real big as well. |

Weather report says 10-15kts in the morning, 15-25kts afternoon subsiding to less than 10kts in the evening. Shouldn't be a problem, and the California City area, Richardson Bay, and Some of Raccon Straits are always calm. Channel 68 is commonly used in the bay, will be listening for calls. Hope to see some of you out there tomorrow. |

WT I think littleblue got it right...it was a debacle of biblical porportions. We hung out for a while, then left when it started getting ugly. Littleblue dropped by, but docking was a nightmare, so he split pretty quick. We did have 5 whalers rafted up together at one point, but I forgot the camera! Oh well maybe next year. |

Wow, you had 5 there at one point? Who was in attendence? After I spoke to you briefly and turned around the guy at the docks told me we couldn't raft up any more boats together cause we'd be clogging up that section of the docks. On my way out I ran into the father of an old friend of mine out in his red/white Donzi "Fast Eddie." Funny old guy...spoke to him for a while and then me and the g/f went up near cal city and had some fun/got some sun.I really didn't think anyone else would show and by the looks of it have anywhere to park even if they did, which is why I left. Under normal circumstances I would not have left so abruptly. |

We had me (17-M), Brian (OR-18), Matty (OR-18), Mike (17M) and Steve(?) (Frontier 25 who was actually rafted to the floating dock nearer to shore.) The "no rafting" rule applies to the boats in the channel between the Corinthian dock and the Sams dock, but we had that one spot that still allowed for access to the Corinthian north dock (and I know the Corinthian harbor patrolman, Hans, who lets us get away with it!)Anyway, we did have a good time, but sounds like you had a good time too. I just love that beach South of Cal City, just before the point. One of my good friends lives in the white house with the white pier, and brings us hot coffee while we're fishing there. (Been a while, though, maybe this fall?) Nice area to spend an afternoon. We'll hook up next time. |
