Anyone interested in getting some Whalers together for a trip to Block Island?

Planning on starting from Old Saybrook, CT and cruising to Block with our 190 Nantucket.

Also, never been thru the "RACE" before between Mystic and Fishers Island. I'm looking for some expert advise.

LW -

Should be a fun trip, but alas, to far for me to run.

The Race is between Little Gull and Fisher's Island. Fisher's Island Sound is between Fisher's Island & the mainland (CT & Mystic).

Areas are well marked. Fog could be a problem & slow your trip, but there are many places to visit if you end up short of Block (RI, CT, NY).

Don't run the Race with wind opposing current - could be nasty. Avoid tide rips (you can usually see them and you can see smooth water). The Race is doable, so is Fisher's Island Sound. Review tides/currents before running.

Block is great.

Have a safe trip.

Hmmmmmm
Sounds tempting.
That's my primary "port" (Old Saybrook Ramp).
I'll have to keep my eyes open for your Nantucket, nice looking rig.
I launch there on weekends, more often than not anyway (1997 20' Outrage)
Maybe a trip to Claudio's in Greenport for lunch and refreshments is in order!

I launch out of the Black Hall in Old Lyme. I would be up for a trip somewhere. I have a 2001 16 Dauntless. We put together a rendevous at the old Griswold Point in 2001 before the storm washed it away.

I vote for Napatree beach at the RI/CT border. Well protected, excellent beach. Local ramp at Barn Island in Stonington, CT for those who want to trailer.

I will vote for Napatree as well. From what I have heard it is very nice with a lot for the kids to do as well. You can even walk to watch Hill.
