OK..the better half is off to France for the next two weeks (don't even ask why I'm not along, it is one very long story!), and I've got some flexible time at work... sooo...

If anyone is intersted in a pleasant day on the inland portion of Michigan's Huron River, let me know!

I keep my little 130 sport at the Portage Yacht Club, I would be happy to cruise a fellow CW'er and his/her significant other upstream to Zukey Lake for Lunch or Dinner at the infamous Zukey Lake Tavern.... or a cruise around the chain of Lakes and lunch or dinner at the club.... The only requirement is that you not comment on the scuff marks on my deck from someone's black sandels....

The trip from Portage to Zukey is about 1.5 to 2 hours one way...

If someone wants to trailer their not too large boat and cruise along, there is a launch at Portage Lake (although, you'll want to hit it at 8 am when it opens on the weekends, otherwise it fills up pretty quick).

I'm not available on July 28th, but most any other day is an option!

Bob - I'm in. I have been in Colorado for a while, got back Monday night, off to Illinois for the weekend, back Sunday night can do it next week. Advise best and I will send you an email as well.

the only time I'm not available next week is Monday (tied up until 3 pm or so, but free after that.

Looks like next weeks weather is sort of shaping up a lot like this past week here (hot, chance of rain)... Tuesday looks like a clear forcast at this point, but who trusts a weatherman, eh?

Let me know what works for ya!

Bob - I am ready but it's kind of hot isn't it? Think we should wait until it cools off a bit? Advise.

As much as I hate to admit it, you're probably right on the heat. I was out yesterday and, if I wasn't jumping in the water every 10 minutes, it was pretty unbearable, and it's even hotter today and tomorrow..

Looks like Friday though Sunday's forcast is pretty good at this point..... Friday would be a quieter day on the river...

What do you think?

Bob - I was in Brighton today getting a new car for Ellen - which messed up my Friday. Tomorrow we're heading to Ludington to the Educated Angler BBQ w/ Tom G and company, then two days at Hamlin. Back Monday night. Any chance to cruise next week?

HuronBob posted 08-05-2006 02:44 PM ET (US)     Profile for HuronBob

I'm free Monday, Tuesday, and Wed. (until about 2 pm, then I have to head to the airport to pick someone up)....

Thursday and friday aren't good days for me...the next week is a complete unknown....

I case anyone is listening, I met Bob and cruised the Huron R/lake system in his 130 on Saturday. We had a great time and the chain of lakes blew my mind. I'm not sure how many of you Great Lakes Whaler owners have been on that system but Bob is absolutly correct about it being a great rendezvous opportunity.

Therefore, I think we should try and get some of the members out there before the end of the season for a cruise, some casting, talk, back talk and dinner at his yacht club or the tavern which was great. Sure, Black River, Burt Lake and all that are cool but it's a haul up there. Why not do something within an hour or three of a lot of us? Perhaps bigger boat owners wouldn't be interested, I don't know - there were plenty of big boats out there Saturday.

I say, let's Cruise with Huron Bob.

Who wants to go?

I'm up for it, but I'll be out of town from 8/25/06 through 9/9/06. I'm guessing that Labor day weekend would be a poor choice due anyway, if it's anything like the inland lakes around Pontiac. Mega Fool Traffic.

I'd be interested, it's been years since I hit that waterway, If I remember correctly, I don't know if the Revenge 22 would be to big, aren't there some low bridges involved ?

HuronBob posted 08-17-2006 03:19 PM ET (US)     Profile for HuronBob
Folks, I would be glad to "guide" a group on the river. The suggestion would be to put in at the public launch just off Portage lake (or, it that is full, there is a small private launch just a few hundred feet up the river, I could probably arrange in advance to make sure there was room for everyone interested)..

The cruise up to Zukey lake is about 1.5 hours (much of it no wake)...there is a nice little Tavern on Zukey, and then, of course, the cruise back down..

Weekdays are better than weekends on the chain of lakes, but once we get past this holiday weekend things will get pretty quiet.

I can pretty much take any day off after the holiday rolls by, and weekends are probably ok for me as well.

This week I'm free on Saturday, next week I might be available on Wed. (23rd) and I think on the 24th as well.

Pat, the 22 would probably be ok. There is a high bridge we could use instead of the usual one next to the launch, folks are able to take 25 foot pontoons through it (as long as they don't have a top). The only lake you couldn't get to would be Little Portage, but that's a bit out of the way and a dead end anyway.

There are a lot of boats on the river/chain of lakes with 250 hp engines, there may be some tilting involved at a couple of the shallow spots, but shouldn't be a problem.

If folks want to contact me directly on this, my e/mail is in my profile. If you want to give me a call, e/mail me and I'll send my phone number..

It would be great to get 10 boats. I think it would a fun trip without major logistical issues. Homey - who do you think you could encourage to join us? YOu know, there is a historical component to this tour as well. Very interesting. The Yacht Club facilities are very nice. We could get creative and have a good, informative time there too. I have been waiting for a chance to show my video Small Boat, Giant Tuna - Lee Wulf on an older Whaler off Newfoundland.

I'm free this Saturday.

17 Outrage II.

HuronBob posted 08-18-2006 08:49 AM ET (US)     Profile for HuronBob

I"m not sure who we could get to go along..Let me consider that a bit.. I'll e/mail my friend the historian and see if he might be able to come along.

Roy, this saturday is probablly a bit soon for a large group, and it does look like rain, but if anyone is interested in a more informal trip (perhaps an early start at the public launch and then up to zukey for lunch, I would be willing to chance getting wet with folks...

I'm off to a memorial service (tossing some ashes into the detroit river, but they won't let me take my boat), and then a memorial trip to the tigers game...

If folks are interested, leave me a note here, or e/mail me at the address in my profile and I'll be at the launch at 8 am to help folks unload (any later than that and you might not get a parking spot)..

The launch is located on McGregor Road, just off of Dexter-Pinckney Road.

I'll check my e/mail when I get home tonight and will respond to any last minute questions...

How about 9/23/06? It's the First Day of Autumn. How's that for a great reason to have a Rendezvous?

I agree we need some lead time. I am not sure of my schedule Saturday, need to check. If I'm reading 8 am tomorrow I might be able to make it. Pls confirm.

HuronBob posted 08-18-2006 06:21 PM ET (US)     Profile for HuronBob

Roy can't make it tomorrow morning, and it looks like a rainout anyway...

how about we shoot for the date he suggested in September for a multi boat type of outing...?

I'm ready for anything incl short notice. I know Ellen wants to come over there for sure and soon. I agree more lead time would be best for a cruise with others but I wanna get back there w/ her and check things and fishing out more thoroughly.

You will be first to know when we head over. I agree better weather for sure.
