Not meaning to start a fresh thread but the Huron River Cruise has huge potential. We are pretty much available on short notice, nice afternoons however Sept 23 seems to be a possible date for planning.

We will certainly be over there before then, how about getting a list of those who are really interested in going. So far I have

Huron Bob
Ben
Pete B88 and Ellen
Beaglescout
Royboy
Home Aside - depending on his boat - they have big ones there

We'd love to see
Jeff
Buckda
Cicada
Tom G (can ride with us or somebody)
and a few more.

What's the pleasure of the group? Is this a real thing or not?

best

88

Pete,

thanks for putting the energy into getting this going..

I'm holding the date (sept 23) open.

There is a public launch just off of Portage Lake, the only problem is that it tends to fill up early in the am if the weather is nice on the weekend. I would be glad to check with the private launch just around the corner to see if we can reserve spaces in advance to assure that everyone can launch. I could pay in advance, folks can reimburse me.

For those that aren't familiar with the river, it is navigable from Portage lake up to Strawberry/Zukey Lake. There is a great Tavern on Zukey for lunch (Zukey is about a 1.5 to 2 hour cruise from Portage lake, much of it on natural river areas, no wake type of cruise).

It would also be possible to dock and eat lunch at the Portage Yacht Club, I would want to arrange this in advance.

Keep me posted, I'll do all I can at this end to help set it up.

And... of course, if anyone is interested on a weekend/evening trip prior to that, get in touch with me...

Bob

I would think that by the end of September, the launches will be less in demand than during the Summer. How many parking slots does the public launch have?

Roy..

The DNR launch has about 30 spaces give or take.... It would all depend on the weather as to how busy it will be.

We might be interested. Probably come by water if weather is right.

Terry,

man... what kind of weather would you need to get past the 5 or 6 dams between the big lake and where we're going to cruise! :)

Huron Bob, Deb, Ellen and I did the Huron River cruise scouting mission today all together in Bob's 130 - awesome, fun and a few fish, talk and back talk. Saw several Whalers, including some never or rarely used, and a nice Montauk on the water. The yacht club checks out, lots of scenery in the 9 lake chain and Zuky is great for food and drink. Don't miss the 23rd!!

Thanks Bob!

Pete...

you're welcome..it was a fun ride..

Note to all: Pete and his wife are good people to have on your boat! In my sincere effort to make sure that the girls up front

ducked for the low bridge, I neglected to take the rods out of the holder behind my seat. Pete's wife yelled (as we were half way under the bridge) "get your rods"... at which point Pete dived, grabbed one rod out of the holder, and gently bent the other to clear the bridge.

The rods were saved at the expense of some scrapes on Pete's foot as it caught under the console seat when he dived.

So.. bottom line here.. Pete and his lovely wife saved my rods, he never complained about the injury (although I do think he was gonna put in a call to Tony!), and he was kind enough not to mention it here!

On top of that, they paid the bill for lunch at Zukey Lake Tavern...

Pete did manage to catch one really huge bass..

And, we did spot a nice looking older 17' Whaler heading up the river.

A fun day... and, to be repeated in a few weeks with anyone interested in sharing the trip with us..

Bob

We're good to go for the 23rd - hope you guys can make it. No problem saving the rods, way of life - priority ONE, save the Graphite!!

We had a great time and so will you. More later
