Any interest in a Christmas rendezvous for some boating in Florida on December 28 and 29? I figure after delivering all of those presents, the big guy could use a Nantucket Sleigh Ride.
I'm thinking perhaps Ft. Lauderdale or Miami area, but am flexible. I need to be back in Chicago for work on Jan 2.

If you venture up toward Palm Beach, look me up. I better have my dock in by then... (permit expires at the end of the year!) Transient whalers are always welcome to stop by. I'll even hoist the Whaler Flag and give you a GPS coordinate to navigate to.

Again, if you want to come to Sarasota/Tampa area you and others will be welcome at my dock here. This is a very laid back area with alot more rural vs. urban boating of Ft. Lauderdale.

Thanks guys -
I'll hold off on final destination until around Thanksgiving - but I wanted to plant a seed now. I'll really need a boating fix around then, and the new motors are just so easy to winterize, it's removed any barrier to doing something like this.

That is a great advantage to DFI engines.
I was only pointing out the difference between the two coasts in my last post. Miami/Ft. Lauderdale can be blast at night and great fishing/diving all day.
I have lived there and really miss some of the boating. There is nothing like anchoring out in North Biscayne Bay on New Years Eve, fireworks from 10 or more municipalities at once. And then there are the Bahamas runs....and...

I'm modifying the location to Mobile, Alabama.
If not - I'll probably run the Black Warrior River for a ways..perhaps from Tuscaloosa to Demopolis or maybe all the way to the Tombigbee.

Mobile, AL. = Not Warm Enough. My first year at UF taught me a valuable lesson. The gulf coast, being roughly the same latitude as Gainesville is not nearly as warm as South Florida. Later in college, friends in the panhandle saw snow.
Dave, If you change your mind, I'll still give you cordinates, but the dock is not done yet... It's still a work in progress, but work is progressing nicely.

Mobile + Mills Canvas - Chicago = warm enough.
I'll let you know when things are finalized...

Just a follow-up to this. I ended up boating in Northwest Alabama along the Black Warrior River (part of the Tombigbee Waterway). A beautiful cruise on Dec 23 on Lake Tuscaloosa, a splendid 100 miles (50 downriver and 50 back upriver to Northport) on December 29, and a great cruise on the little-discovered Holt Reservoir Northeast of Tuscaloosa (also part of the Black Warrior river) on December 30.

Nice opportunity you had there, Dave.
Wish I could say we were snowed in up here,
waxing cross-country skis and awaiting a break,
but you've undoubtedly seen our conditions by now.
Link to some photos if you have a chance.
