I'm still interested, still checking the boy's hockey schedules, if they are playing local I can probably skip a game and go Whalering, if they are out of town for a tournament I'll have to pass on the Whalering....I'll keep watching and let you knowPat |

The following link will do a map to Klave's Marina. Klaves is about 100 yards away from the DNR boat launch just off Portage Lake. Just another 100 yards or so up McGregor Road is a small private launch as well. http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=klaves+marina+pinckney+mi& ie=UTF8&om=1&z=12&ll=42.432833,-83.945847&spn=0.102372,0.190201 My suggestion is that we make this an early morning trip. If we were to launch at Portage at 8 or 8:30 am, we probably won't have any problems getting spaces at the launch (about 30 cars/trailers max). A bit later and we might have to use the private launch just up the street (I'll confirm that they will be open prior to that date). A slow cruise up to Zukey Lake would get us there for lunch with time to spare. If you need additional directions, please let me know via the e/mail link in my profile.. Bob |

I heard ESPN 2 is going to cover our Huron River cruise. I heard the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit models are going to be there posing on our Whalers. It's not too late to sign-up! |

Is this still alive? The weather forecast isn't looking too rosy, with thunderstorms on Saturday and rain on Sunday. What's the consensus? Roy |

Well, it is Tuesday and the weather report looks a bit weak for next Saturday, but, given the typical accuracy of the National Weather Service, I'm not ready to give up on the day yet. My inclination is to wait until Friday and give it a go or no-go at that point. If there are folks interested, I'm willing to join them! Bob |

I think we add Ben - He emailed me and I suggested that he watch this thread. I will email him. Have we agreed on a time? Ellen's pushing for a bit later than 8:30 meet at the ramp - she is on some supervision duty Fri pm maybe a football game or something. pb

Given the potential weather, time at the ramp probably isn't an issue, it shouldn't be crowded. So.... let's set a tentative time of 10 am?Let me know what you folks think... Bob |

OK.. after watching the weather forcast go downhill for the past week, it now appears that Tomorrow (Saturday the 23rd) Pete and I have discussed the plan and decided it would be a truly lousy day for a run up the river. We've decided to call off the trip on Saturday, but will keep Sunday open as an option if things look like it might be somewhat dry. We'll make some sort of tentative decision on Saturday evening. Please contact me, folks, if anyone has any questions. Bob |

Thanks to my less than professional cut/paste/edit skills, that previous message didn't make much sense. jimh, if the sentence structure and chaos of that message caused your editor self any serious medical issues when you read it, I'll cover the ER expenses!Let's try this once again, from the top... Looks like I fish instead! I was going to make my final decision at around 9:00 tomorrow morning anyway, since I'm pretty close by. If they're wrong about the thunderstorms I'll be heading for Lake Erie (Brest Bay). Ichthus on channel 68....clear!Roy |

Well, I chickened out from the forecast, and no thunderstorms materialzed, nor even any rain. Tomorrow's forecast is a bit better in the middle of the day, perhaps we can make this happen after all. What say ye boatmen?Roy |

Roy,Yep, we called this one wrong... I spoke with Pete this afternoon, we agreed that listening to weather reports is a useless and misleading behavior. We're going to touch base tomorrow about 8 am to determine if Sunday might be a go! There's not much boating weather left and I would love to get out! We'll keep you in the loop. Bob

Sunday Morning - 7:35..The weather report for today doesn't show any thunderstorms, there is a chance of rain most of the day, but at 40% instead of the 90% we were told yesterday.. Temps will be in the 60's. I would be glad to cruse with anyone who wants to give it a shot. Pete is supposed to give me a call this morning at about 8am. I'll post the outcome (and e/mail folks) after we've connected. Bob |

For the last hour I thought it was beginning to look like the nasty weather was going to blow by, 12:30, still high winds and rain off and on. Looks like we stay in port. Let's keep schedules open for Indian Summer day perhaps with color tour. I was on Whaler most of yesterday in full Helly Hanson rain gear - very cool, lots of fun even with rain squalls it was 75 degrees and warm rain. Didn't even put up the bimini. As I started writing this less than 10 minutes ago it seemed like it was getting sunny, w/ 50 50 blue sky and clouds - now black clouds coming over the rim rock. Michigan weather. |

Blame it on the Wimmen!! No, real nasty weather around here - best when we can all enjoy the cruise- it is really nice. Bonus plan, if Huron Bob can figure out a plan and when we finally do this cruise, I'll bring Giant Tuna, Small Boat if we can arrange a VCR at Zukey or Bob's YC. It's great and absolutely captivated Ellen when she watched it - Lee Wulf chasing 800 pounders with Eastport type Whaler, mahog console and Bearcat 55 in Newfoundland. Awesome. Probably an old American Sportsman episode. Keep your tanks topped off - let's set a back-up date Bob. pb |

I'm afraid that last weekend was the end of the season for me. I'll be pulling the boat out of the water sometime in the next week, winterizing, and putting the cover on until next spring.Hopefully we'll be able to pull off a trip some time next year. Bob |
